Just 2 weeks to go to this year's Masters. I'm hoping the guy at the top of the leaderboard in the above picture gets it done this year. Spieth will be there. Maybe Matsuyama and Mickelson too.

    its the golfers heaven,
ask any golfer what course they have on the bucket list.
    it has to be there.

    as for a winner,
would love to see McIlroy do it,
but cant see anyone beating Dustin

Looking forward to it. Resolute not to start watching til Thursday. The sky hype annoys me.

Outside the big obvious contenders I'll be fancying a few for strong finishes.
Rahm and Casey I think will do well.

Would love to see Rory win it but he needs a very good first day. He can't afford to be 5-6 back after day 1.

I love it. Hate the limited coverage the first few days but it really is a class competition.

I'm not even a golfer and I've applied the last couple of years to go because I just want to walk on it.

Found out that my wife was expecting our first child on the eve of last years tournament.
The Masters will always remind me of that :)

Really looking forward to it this year with Tiger intending to tee it up just ratcheting up the tension.

Always look forward to and enjoy it, including the par 3 comp. Signals the start of the golfing year.

Would agree when you look at it over the last 10 years or so. It isn't an event that has given too many predicted winners. I guess you could say that about all 4 majors in the last 10 years. With a few exceptions like Rory and the reliable Phil.

I hope this year we actually see the top say 10 players , near the top and taking the majors. And there is a good chance of that - they top guys seems to be taking back control of the big events. They seem to have separated themselves a little. I don't think we will see a year with all new major winners again like (2016)

The only ones I'd like to see come into the fold for an upset are - Lowry, Garcia and I know not popular but I would never begrudge Lee Westwood his major. I wouldn't mind Fowler in the mix

At 46 he is pushing it (all over the place) - but if Phil is in the mix there you can never rule him out.

I hope tiger plays well and all but i really hope he doesn't totally dominate the coverage.

Surely there must be somewhere showing the first two days? Nudge-nudge, wink-wink?

The reason the Masters is so popular is because it is the only major that's played on the same course every year. Regular watchers get to know the course so well that it's almost as if they have played it themselves. We know where the breaks are on the greens. We know where all the trouble is.
It's the only golf tournament where I watch all the TV coverage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭jelutong

Eirsport are showing the four days again this year.

I think it's also very popular due to the fact it's the first major and it has been 8 or so months since we've had one

Don't they only show the later parts of the first two days along with selected groups and amen corner.

I know its a theme every year for people to complain and I don't want to be one of them so I'll leave it there.

Isn't that the coverage that every TV station gets? I know Sky have Amen corner etc. on the red button but I don't think you can even get an illegal stream for the early parts of the first two days. People at Augusta are very particular over their product.

    Correct (afaik)

I think Tiger Woods will string the public along and withdraw from the tournament just before it starts. He will benefit commercially from the publicity. He won't play and finish down the field.

Surely I have more chance of playing than Tiger ?

He won't play and finish down the field because he will withdraw with some injury (usual back) if and when things starts to go tits up.

I hope he plays. He played pretty well at the Hero World Challenge and could conceivably make the cut.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭HighLine

Think Pat Perez's comments on Tiger were on the mark. Whilst he might commit to the Masters, it will only be for PR and marketing reasons. Having watched his most recent interview, it seems obvious that Tiger's priorities have shifted towards his kids and he has accepted that his body won't allow him to compete at the top level anymore.

Dont forget he has thrown away many a tourney and pebble beach wasnt that long ago.
I still dont think his short putting from 10 feet in is good enough on greens this quick.
He pushes a lot of puts and I expect him not to be in the running come Sunday.

    This.

Too many scars to care at this stage.
It will be interesting to see when he does burn out, and I think the masters might be it.
He will bounce back no doubt, just the expectation won't suit him.

Its The Masters. It doesnt really take place on this earth. Magnolia drive is a portal to another universe where everything we can imagine golfish is just taken to a level that is truly otherwordly.
From the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, to the palaces of the Roman emperors, to Versailles, no patch of the globe has so utterly mastered perfection on earth. God looked down on it a few years ago and is apparently remodelling heaven.

(Though my own theory, that I havent completely discounted yet, is that it doesnt really exist at all, and all the footage we watch is just CGI - but THE BEST CGI EVER!)

There was a lad on here who payed it and said it is a crap course.

A bit of an open hilly bog standard parkland - with flowers and painted up for the masters :P

Ach, they were just trolling. We all know it is a course of unimaginable bliss.

Even its sandwiches are divine. No, I havnt tried one, but I just know that they are.
Posting this here so that you can all shop for the necessaries over the next couple of days, then make a couple of these for Wednesday evening. Leave them in the fridge. Get home from work. Switch on the par 3, and enjoy a couple with a Coca-Cola (what else!):

I flicked on unintentionally to see a 7-9 year old girl take an absolute age to take a putt.jesus wept. This stuff is actually encouraged at that age I'm sure.
