sorry to butt in on this thread.... im thinking of getting Saorview.... do these TVs need an aerial on the roof to receive it?.
I was told that an aerial sticking out of the back of the TV would work?

depends were u are. in dublin an indoor aerial should do other parts may have a weaker signal may need an outdoor aerial

Anyone got any pointers for stockists of the Walker or Normende models mentioned, preferably Wicklow or Dublin. The likes of powercity don't seem to have the models linked to, unless the model numbers have updated again? Hoping to decluter one of the TV areas, so happy enough with manual updates/ channel reordering after years of combo use! Thanks

Yes, but they don't appear to be carrying the model numbers mentioned that have the combined EPG. Unless they run different model numbers.

The Powercity description for the TVs with combined Satellite and Saorview channel list isn't very good.

This one - https://www.powercity.ie/product/218873 - for example is described as "saorview & satellite 1 tuner".

Toshiba have now brought a Saorview/Satellite TV on to the market. It also has a combined channel list of Irish and UK channels on the same screen.

Is the main channel list editable by the user so that the order can be changed to suit personal preferences?

Had a quick look at the specs ..... this seems to be a single tuner with PVR functions.
Can a sat channel be recorded while watching a Saorview channel?

@Navarre - have you got your hands on one yet?
Same interface as the Walker/Nordmende models?
Same BBC issue crashing the TV with internet enabled?

Just the BBC channels off satellite ?

Likely culprit is the common MHEG engine on board for Saorview.

You might have a chance of getting it resolved anyway as they seem to have a forum

Just the BBC channels off satellite with a Walker TV, don't know if this happens for combined terrestrial reception of Saorview and Freeview.
Also don't know if this issue is present with the Toshiba.

I saw some strange results with the early Triax boxes when the MHEG middleware tried to interpret the BBC MHEG IC. Its software that needs to be edited. The MHEG software seeing the BBC channel needs to be looked at. An oversight that Irish people would be accessing or have the ability to access UK stations via satellite. They should really test these things.

EDIT. Yes it definitely the MHEG-IC loading or at least attempting to, then realising you are out of jurisdiction via an IP check. Incomplete software. HANG.

One major snag I've come across is, with WiFi enabled the TV crashes when you select any of the BBC channels. It can be any of them HD or SD, BBC News HD, BBC1 NI HD, BBC Parliament etc. An internet access icon may momentarily appear in the top LH corner of the screen. Only disabling WiFi restores normal operation.

Recently updated my TV to the latest software version via internet, to v2.45.0.0 from v2.40.6.0, and that issue has been resolved. No longer crashing the TV if you select one of the BBC channels with TV connected to the internet.

How do I tune in Channel 4 SD?

I read about the dispute between Channel 4 and Freesat, but I have no problem receiving Channel 4 HD on my free-to-air box, yet my mother can't get either channel and she has this TV.

Menu -> Installation -> Manual Channel Scan -> Search Type Satellite -> enter Frequency/Polarisation/Symbol Rate of required transponder -> OK to start search

The Channel 4 channels are spread across 4 frequencies/transponders

    10714 H 22000 - various Channel 4 SD regions
    10729 V 22000 - Channel 4 NI SD & various +1
    11126 V 22000 - Channel 4 HD
    12304 H 27500 - Channel 4 NI+1 SD

If I buy a TV with built in Saorview, will it come with extra channels as well as the Analogue ones?

What 'extra channels' do you have in mind?

Saorview are digital channels not analogue.
