Ha, fun idea for a thread - as long as everyone remembers agreement is optional!

Heres another one, someone has put a Lot of work into this, but at the end of the day its still an MR2 with a bodykit.

Which is a shame, because despite their homocidal tendencies in wet corners the MR2 was a nice little car

Although not currently for sale, the best I can think of that fits the bill is the wonderful BMW E46 M3d floating about Cork, complete with it's own thread for complete face-palming http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/showthread.php?t=36587. Imagine taking one of the best engineered performance cars of recent times, and lumping in a 2L Diesel from a 320d because you couldn't afford the tax. Some people are just on a different level. Even on Cartell the car still checks out as an M3 (making it naturally hard to insure) with a daysul engine!! I'm not sure what makes it currently state more galling, the 'limited edition' sticker in gold under the D badge on the boot, or the fact the owner acts like a real deal M-wncker so far as paying the staff to drive his car through the car wash. I feel I am a calm motorist, but I genuinely had thoughts of arson that day!!

Been on and off Ebay for about a year ,failed to reach reserve at Coys and has been sitting on C&C for months too.
I know someone who went to look at it and it's surprisingly solid but I think it's the ugliest aberration of the E24 that is possible.

That indeed is a foul and ghastly thing.

Such a shame because the unfettered 6 series is such an example of beautiful design.

The only road legal VolksRod RatRod in Ireland

I'm open to correction on this, but with an exhaust pipe protruding out the back by about a foot, and exposed wheels on all four corners, I don't think that this actually is road legal. I wonder if the owner has happened upon any RSA checkpoints lately, I doubt they'd be giving him any cheery thumbs up.

Would you believe someone bidded €3600 for that at the Merlin auction last month...and he refused!! I think the price on it then was ten grand..

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I dont know, if it had started out in life as an Austin A35 I would be impressed, but they took a functional or repairable Bently and wrecked it

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 96 ✭✭MotherTeresa

£35K Sterling would buy a clean Bentley Turbo R or Brooklands, and cover the VRT.
I can't see any RR or Bentley buyers ever buying a replica, and certainly not a 35K one.
But one never knows, this is Ireland; and I have seen a fool and his money easily parted.
Maybe the Celtic Tiger part 2 has started after all.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 96 ✭✭MotherTeresa

Shame about that W123 as the TE are great cars. I don't know why he went for the 2 tone look, as if it was in either colour it would have looked OK. But that wood/vinyl really ruins it, not to mention the chrome arches.
I always say this, if it didn't come out of the factory with it; then remove it.
I think the worse case of a chromed up Mercedes I have seen is a local one. A '95 C180 that has been covered in every way with plastic stuck chrome trims. You name it, wheel arches, door edges, door handles, even parts I didn't know they made in chrome plastic. The finishing touch was the massive SEC grill star, and chrome tow hitch cover.
I pity some people's ideas of good taste in Ireland.
The irony is had it left it a standard C180, it would be worth more and look better.

I have to admit,I'm tempted to get a grille star for my w203, some bastard robbed the main one

I think they look great on SEC's and SL's.
But on nothing else. Even the C class. I know there are meant to look more sport than the Avantgarde/Elegance; but I just think a big plastic badge doesn't look as classy as a smaller bonnet one.
Each to their own though, I know taste is subjective etc.
Personally I think the OEM spec look from the factory is always best. They usually have the styling right when it comes to badges.
There is nothing worse than seeing an M-Power or AMG badge on a base model though. Its like adding an E320 badge to an E200 etc.
Better to debadge that 316i rather than add a 325i etc.
But often it's a case of monkey do what monkey see, like the UK yellow rear plates.

It is pre-1980 registered, so no NCT required (unfortunately in this case).

But surely that thing is an example why a NCT on everything regardless of age is necessary?
What's the story with insurance on such a modification?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

Its still on UK plates, so it will at least have to make some kind of appearance at an NCT centre to be registered.

I'd like to hope some form of inspection took place, but then I remembered where we live

A true enthusiast wouldn't chop the roof in the first place. That heap of junk is the exact reason there should be an Nct for all cars regardless of age.

An Enthusiast would go mad after seeing something like this (as I did).
If someone gave me that car I would simply do PIW to it.
