Any recommendations for a reliable website or app people use to count calories? (e.g. type in food, get nutritional info)

    MyFitnessPal

There's an app as well that allows you to scan barcodes to upload the nutritional information for that food to your personal database of foods

I ageee - My Fitness Pal calorie app seems to have the biggest and most accurate database of foods. You can use the recipe builder part for any home cooking or make your own entries in the unlikely event you find a food that's not listed.

there's one called FatSecret which I've found more user friendly than MFP

The only thing i dislike is the variations of the same food. 25 different bananas, 30 different avocados etc.

I've worked out my diet is packed with sugar - fruit sugars. I probably clear 80 - 100g daily!

    Damn you bananas!

Once you've found what banana is most appropriate, it's in your database. Just takes a bit of work at the start.

I get around this by searching for the usda version of items. Literally just add usda to your search options and you should find one that has been taken directly from that database.

Actually I gave MFP another go today - that barcode scanner is a godsend, I'm switching again!

    Don't be like that.

You could use a spreadsheet OP along with the labelling on food. If you can use a spreadsheet that is.
