The first domestic final of the year sees a resurgent Manchester United go head to head with an always tricky Southampton team.

Last 5 games head to head

    United 2 - 0 Southampton
    United 0 - 1 Southampton
    Southampton 2 - 3 United
    United 0 - 1 Southampton
    Southampton 1 - 2 United

Form Guide last 5 results (all competitions)

    United : WWWWW

    Saints : WLLLW

The much maligned Jose Mourinho has had a stunning record in this competition and a win tomorrow would be his 4th time lifting the trophy in his career.

The Saints last won a domestic trophy in 1976 when they perhaps ominously beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

United are missing the inspirational Henrikh Mkhitaryan while the Saints are without arguably their best player in Virgil VanDijk.

    Possible line ups.

    United

    DeGea

    Valencia
    Bailly
    Smalling
    Rojo

    Martial
    Mata
    Pogba
    Herrara
    Carrick

    Ibrahimovic

    Southampton

    Forster

    Soares
    Stephens
    Yoshida
    Bertrand

    Davis
    Romeu
    Ward-Prowse
    Tadic

    Redmond
    Gabbiadini

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been in spectacular goal scoring form hitting 24 in all competitions so far. The Saints have the speedy Shane Long to call upon as the game goes on to inject some pace against potentially tiring legs.

Some pressing questions that will be answered at full time tomorrow.

Will Pogba have a new hair do?

Will busted flush manager Jose Mourinho continue his run of form in EFL cup finals?

Will the Saints go marching on or will they come unstuck against THE MOST EXPENSIVE TEAM OF ALL TIME!!!!!!

Tune in at 16:30 tomorrow to find out the answer to these and other vital conundrums!

    Man United should win this.

Can't see anything but a Utd win here.

Southampton's form is terrible and Utd are flying high.

Except for the Leicester and Liverpool result, Southampton have been poor. Ok give them the Sunderland one also but all 3 of those teams are in very poor form.

Would like to see Long on and score one but I figure Utd to win by 3.

Are there 2 sides playing this afternoon? Just been watching Sunday Supplement, and Southampton wasn't mentioned once. Anyway, back to the match; I can't see utd messing this one up. 2-0 in a humdrum game.

My gut feeling is a straightforward United victory. 3-0.

Although maybe it was supposed to be like that in 1976 too.

But I will stick with 3-0

Will definitely not be an easy game Southampton are going to be crazy up for this today I'm saying 2-1 to United but it will be close.

13 goals in 8 games against Claude Puel's teams for Zlatan.

Zlatan has won all 5 domestic cup finals he has played in, scoring 5 goals and assisting 2.

    Minor fact....

From 1981 to 1996 an Irish player was on every winning team of the League Cup.

1-0 , Utd win. Think it will be tight.

    Dangerous Southampton team

    Dangerous for who?
Ibra should bully both of their centre halves who are quite poor.
    United 2 or 3 nil.

Even if United win today that statement will still be true.

What nonsense is this? The league cup is a major trophy, has always been considered one and always will be

Major trophy me hole. United were the only ones treating it like the champions league this year with the teams they were lashing out. It's a joke of a cup that no other top teams care about unless they end up in the final after putting out weak teams till that point.

Utter rubbish. Clearly it's the lowest on the pecking order of the big clubs but that doesn't mean it's not a major trophy by any definition.

I wonder are you a Liverpool fan...What trophies are you in the hunt for? Oh yeah **** all. Next year is it?

How is it rubbish? United are the only top 6 team that put out full teams round after round. Even Man City put out a weak team in the 4th round against United.

It's the one trophy where top teams rotate their players and have always had silly names attributed to it. It's a pointless cup.

Don't support any team in the world of soccer at all. None whatsoever.

Clearly then because if you did and your team won this then you'd count it as a major trophy like everyone else does.

Yet you take the time to try piss on United being in the final of it.

    Interesting.

We all know its the least important trophy in terms of stature, so fcuking what, it's still a cup final and still a chance to win a trophy.

Come on United. Would just love to win this!

Pogba probably should do better there, capable of scoring from there.

I believe i took the piss out of the cup.

If Southampton win it. They still haven't won a major cup either.

I see this forum still doesn't like opinions.

That's where video technology would be great. It's so hard for the linesman to call which player is going touch it.
