Hi all, I recently purchased a Honda 5 HP four stroke engine, I have searched for the information but cannot find a clear answer so have two questions.

1- Is marine engine oil the same as say lawnmower oil or is it specialised.

2- There is an electrical output socket on the motor, what is this used for.

    Thanks.

Put the serial number into google and see what oil Honda recommend.

The electrical outlet will be for charging a 12V battery which might be handy if you need to run navigation lights, or instruments such as a depth sounder, GPS, fishfinder etc etc.

Hi Chris for what you would save and for piece of mind I would stick with marine grade oil, water cooled engines run colder than air cooled . I'd say your outlet will just about power a running light putting out about 12 volts to charge a battery you would need about 13 volts so I would stick with charging it at home and not put my trust in the outboard charging it.
