For the ICT, you need a degree, for the Legal job you need to be on the Roll of Solicitors, and for the Nationwide Compliance jobs you need "minimum of Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (Honours Bachelor Degree level) having taken either taxation, accounting, law, business, economics, statistics, mathematics or a financial discipline as a major subject in the final degree examination or qualification as an accountant, solicitor, barrister or Chartered Tax Advisor (i.e. membership or entitlement to membership of a recognised professional body in these areas)."

Would you think they'd be willing to take you on having work experience if you didnt meet the Level 8 degree, have a level 7 :(

The entry requirements are normally hard and fast regarding education. If they do decide to change the requirements then they will have to re-advertise with a new booklet etc.
I'd say that it is very unlikely that they will lower the requirements for any AO competitions below level 8 so i wouldn't hold my breath.
With a level 7 qualification and experience you would have a much better chance in a an EO competition (which is one step below AO) as these are not specifically for graduates. You can work your way up from there.

Thanks - yeah I'll have to look out for an EO competition.

Sent in my application for this today found the competencies though as you have to have 6 in less than 300 words. Finishing my level 8 this year have been doing it part time while working as an accounting manager. Is it mostly qualified accountants/auditors that get these positions does anyone know.

Anyone know what kind of cognitive tests are required at this application process? I'm going to submit application but don't know what tests are involved. Thanks.

Would be surprised if you did well and didn't hold acca or ACA and/or aiti qualifications. That's the way it's gone

On the profiles the Donegal AO has nine years big4 experience with ACA and AITI. With gov AO it's purely aptitude test with revenue AO how is a young inexperienced grad going to compete with that.

Revenue hasn't held aptitude tests for AO for a long time. They generally like to short list based on the application forms. This time it looks like they may be shortlisting first and then asking for a second form.

Their application process states there are ability cognitive type tests though.

Previous Revenue competitions have stated that too and they had no tests only application form and interviews etc.

    Ah ok. Thanks

For the AO Compliance job they're taking Graduates with a degree in any finance related discipline. Accounting degree holders may hold ACA qualifications but Finance/Economics/Mathematics won't.

He's not talking about the bare eligibility criteria though, he's talking about what you need to have to actually be at the races in terms of getting to an interview and successfully making it onto a panel. The reality in the last 7,8,9 years is that the successful applicants for AO compliance roles are generally qualified as accountants or ITI members, with experience relevant to the role. They're basically looking for someone who can be on their own two feet out on the road doing revenue audits within a few weeks / months as opposed to needing years of training to get to that point.

Yes, but for the AO Compliance role advertised they are also taking on a certain number of recent graduates who will most not likely not have those extra qualifications or experience. This is according to Revenue staff who visit colleges looking to recruit graduates.

Is this stated on the form itself or on the candidates information booklet (the pdf), just can't find it, and wondering is that the exact number, that we need to put in. :)

Am I wasting my time going for this. Not a recent graduate having worked in the CS the last 16 years and graduated in a night degree in Business 13 years ago which was funded by the CS. The degree in Business is what was making me eligible to apply for this but if there really looking for qualified auditors/accountants I am probably wasting my time.

I had a very difficult time fitting them in 300 words as well. The competencies are listed in the booklet near the end.

If they are looking for qualified accountants and auditors, there are a lot of people wasting their time. I trust they're not but...

I am not saying that isn't possible, just sayin that even the youngest EO that came in a latest batch of 20 was around 28-30 it would surprise me to see an AO at the age of 22 (ie recent graduate). That's all bit anything is possible of course

It would seem strange to have so many young people at such a high grade. But Revenue visited the colleges recently and their recruiters explicitly said they are searching for graduates from financial disciplines to be trained in these roles. I imagine it will be a mixture of graduates and experienced professionals as you said, with the majority of positions probably leaning towards professionals.

I'd say they will want graduates from those disciplines for specific roles in the central divisions where they do data analytics and high level number crunching.

There's no reason why Revenue would want to take in college graduates to train as auditors, common sense tells you they simply cannot give their people the training that one gets by working in practice or industry for a few years.

There are so many accountancy/finance roles now are qualified accountants/tax advisors happy to start on 30.5K when a newly qualified accountant can easily pick up a 40-45k job where as would take 6 to 7 years to get to that point in Revenue?

What's the progression to AP like in Revenue? How long would it typically take an AO? By the time you get to that level the difference is not so great with that private sector

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 Eoin3

Does anyone know if we are supposed to receive a confirmation email once we have sent in our application?
It says in the booklet that one will be sent out after the deadline. Was just wondering if another one is sent out before that?

Well that's a real piece of string question isn't it!

There'll be lots of AP vacancies in the next 5 - 10 years, but lots of them will be filled by open competition, so the answer is somewhere between 1 year and never...!

I presume applicants leave the Candidate No. box empty on the application form for this position?

I think that you have to register on public jobs and that gives you a candidate number. I think I'm right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Mumof220122016

I didn't include candidate number as I applied off the Revenue website, publicjobs is only advertising it per website, don't think they have anything else to do with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

Ohhhh, I'm not sure now. You have me doubting myself. Like could the application be thrown out as incomplete? If one is meant to include it of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭xOxSinéadxOx

I left that blank actually it didn't say what to put. I didn't get a confirmation email though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,021 ✭✭✭Arcade_Tryer

I'm pretty sure there is no candidate number at this stage. Annoying. But I wouldn't worry.

When filling in key achievements section, did you ensure that you addressed each competency in information booklet?

I didn't put in any candidate number .. I assume that will only come into it after shortlisting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

I left out candidate number anyway. If they throw it out, they'll be throwing out others it seems :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 pinkrunners

Same as I presume the candidate no is for internal revenue use as the competition is not being run by public jobs. Revenue have their own recruitment license since 2005 (I think) so are independent of pas to an extent.

From past experiences in similar competitions, I'd say you will be waiting about 3 or 4 weeks for the shortlisting to take place
