Alternative to candy carts?

Hey all, I was just wondering if any of you have any advice on what I could do that's an alternative to a candy cart? We don't even have a photobooth/selfie mirror, but have another thing where a guy prints out your pictures from your #.

We weren't going to have anything else, but we keep getting asked if we are having a candy cart from everyone (it's almost like a requirement).

Myself and himself are completely stumped for ideas. I would really appreciate your help x

Ice cream cart outsude the church? Honestly though is it really worth it.

Our hotel put on Hot whiskeys and hot ports and handed out persecco with teas and coffees didn't charge us we just had to supply the whiskey and port etc when everyone arrived back.
We'd already bought them all a drink in the pub beside the church and had sandwiches laid on as there was a bit of a drive to the hotel.
Had fish and chips in the cone bags at break time as well as cake and flame throwers outside.

I'd put the money into the meal, band food and drinks. They'll survive without the ice cream and sweets.

We put up a green screen where you entered the banquet hall, I went to the joke shop and spent €300 on props like horse heads, cowboy hats, wigs, etc and gave one of my mates my camera and let him off, he got very drunk, it was complete carnage but the photos were brilliant, people just cut loose and had a great time with it.
You could pay someone to come do it but I think it's a lot funnier when friends are managing friends.
All you need is a spare wall and a green background.

It's not a requirement so if you don't want to spend the money on it then don't feel the need to do it, they are generally under used and can be a waste of money.

Our hotel supply their own candy cart, but we are going using that for our DIY photobooth props and stuff, (Polaroid camera, guest book, extra films, pens, photo props etc) so we are just going to get jars in Mr Price and fill them and have them on the cake table, like a dessert table :)

Just buy some glass bowls or jars for a couple of euro each and then go wild in Aldi or Lidl with the Haribo and fizzy sweets. For 50euro you have a candy table!

Thanks for all your ideas guys! I was thinking about something different to a candy cart/table.
Has it become the norm now to have one? I've been to 3 weddings in the past 5 months and everyone had one haha

Yes it has become the norm, its the new thing that's usually included in packages, I've been to 4 weddings in the last year with the 3 first ones having the candy cart and the last one didn't, not one person missed the cart at the last one.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I mean it's great if you have it as part of your wedding package or if you have the extra cash to spend on it. Only for the fact that about 90% of the people we've spoken to about our wedding have asked about it, I wouldn't even bat an eyelid.

    Whiskey and cigar cart.
    Wine and Cheese Table.
    Crisp Sammich Table.
    Beer pong table.
    Icecream sammich table.

FWIW, I think these are mostly idiotic, and an unnecessary expense. The Whiskey and Cigar is nice, but Irish wedding attendants are selfish, and some ****wit will drink all the nice whiskey on his own, with a stupid mixer.

Loving these! Beer pong! I didn't even think of that haha.
Agreed about the whiskey drinkers :D

Oh God, I can't think of anything worse! Every wedding these days HAS to have one...

OP - If you're looking for something different, I have a suggestion -DON'T HAVE ONE!! :D

It's a wedding, not a childrens' party. Ditch the back to childhood extras, spend the money on the canapés and meal, and let your guests socialize like adults instead of taking stupid pictures.

Totally agree. Why do people need entertainment and gimmicks at weddings these days, are they not enjoyable enough as they are?

I hate candy carts, they've been done to death. I saw a crisp sandwich table set up when we went to view our venue, thought it was a bit different but I hate crisp sandwiches. Fiance and his mates would adore a beer pong table but we'd probably all be thrown out after that, going on their previous beer pong adventures! I don't think we'll have anything extra, I did see at our venue's open day that there was the option of a craft beer stall (Dungarvan brewing company) and I thought that was quite a nice idea.

Don't be putting pressure on yourself, OP! Ask yourself, do you or your fiancé want a candy cart or something else of its ilk? If the answer is no for both, then leave it out. It won't be missed.

I was at a wedding where they had an improvised photobooth ie. polaroid camera, props etc. and the wedding party was trying to usher guests over to it as nobody was too bothered. It was just awkward. Organised fun is the worst.

    Organised fun is the worst.

This, OP. Especially when it's done-to-death organized fun! Do what you want, not what you think you should be doing bc everyone else is expecting it bc everyone else did it at their wedding.

The first time saw a candy table was at am American wedding in 2006, and I thought it was pretty cool, 11 years ago. I've no problem with them, but I wouldn't be forking out for them if I was getting married, esp if they were just filled with a rake of cheap sweets.

Thanks for all the comments! Yeah I agree about it being done to death (I don't mean to offend those who love them!). Maybe I'll just stick to my original plan and have nothing like that.

It's not like I don't have anything extra. Instead of getting a photobooth, I hired this company that prints the pictures straight from your # instantly so people can have their pictures printed like the photobooth without having to queue up and stuff.

So, they'll all be on their phones at your wedding instead?

Just do whatever the frick you want! If you want Justin Bieber at your wedding, just do it. If you were giving away gold bars as wedding favours to each of your guests, some people on boards would still pick holes. Plan your wedding to your tastes, who cares! Some people will always seek out fun whatever they're doing, others will always be Moany Mouths. Just carry on regardless :D

Haha didn't this just prove the point that people will critique everything anyone does anyway?
Thanks for the meme. Will definitely save that one.

Another point on the candy carts. I was at a wedding last year with about 15 children at it. I was sitting beside the candy cart and generally it was the children who were the up and down to the cart filling up. Resulting in a lot of sugar high children who livened up the dancefloor no end. Maybe if you have children coming, this would be be a good idea! This is my plan anyway :D

We've no children coming to our wedding and we're still having one! We're both big kids at heart and sure if no one else eats them, more for us ha ha!!:)

Yeah I love sweets so if there was a candy cart at a wedding, I'd definitely avail, but I wouldn't expect one or miss it if it wasn't there.

Was at a family wedding last week and they had one. Don't remember seeing many people at it to be honest. A few filled up bags to bring home for kids. I'd say don't have one unless as someone else said you buy your own jars in ikea and sweets in Lidl or Aldi. Would definitely not pay someone to do it

No, they didn't do anything and they won't get the chance to! Beer pong means people get very drunk very fast :D

We didn't have a candy cart but we did have jars around the drinks reception with pretzels and popcorn and savoury treats (something to go nice with the Pints). We also had jars on our tables with little props and selfie sticks for the guests to have a play around with while waiting for their food. They went down well and weren't a huge expense we just raided Tiger :)

We had marshmallows in different favours from Delish Melish - http://delishmelish.com/.

We did it in afternoon tea style and bought some biscuits from Lidl and added them in and it totally worked so well.  Older people loved it.  A lot didn't want a drink when they arrived so they had these first.  They worked out really good value too.  I budgeted 2.5 per person and that was probably about right.

I must say I am a person who hates all those things like photobooth and sweet carts etc, I think they are a massive waste of money and a source of stress to the Bride and Groom, but that us just me. I was at a wedding recent and they had little baskets in the bathrooms with little cans of deorderant, plasters, packs of tissues, samples of handcream, painkillers, (there were no kids at the venue) heel grips and cushions etc and a few pairs of flipflops. I thought it was a nice touch. It was a small wedding in a private venue though so might not be ideal for your venue.

Saw on Pintrest a prosecco pimping station with fresh fruit and flavourings to add, looked like a fun one to do if you have the time!!
