    I haven't seen a slow set since the 80's.

Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues and Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton were regulars.

At the end of the night, they played this and the whole nightclub sang and danced along. :/ My brother said that the DJ played it as the last song every week. I think the slow set was gone then but the DJ was trying recreate it or something :)

Look at the title of the video, that's not the name of the song!

I'm going to report that to youtube, it's annoying me that much!

    This says it all really:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEViQXpUsIo

"Slow set is dead. What do you say, when you're eternal flame Has been drowned by her Purple rain"

I remember one night - forgive me I was very young then - thinking it was a good idea to stand stock still in the middle of a dance floor when "So Long Marienne" came on, with my head in my hand. Just stood there during the whole song.

When I was asked if I was ok I just answered "Yea - it's just such a sad song". Never got so many offers of drinks, chats, or the company of so many girls in one night in my life. Was meant to try it again sometime - but I fear I grew up :)

if we could only have stayed that way for a little while more

What about the Marquees? A friend often refers to them. He's about mid fifties. I'm not sure if they were a dance hall or something else. It sounds like most of their sets were slow.

Why is it not called a slow song?

Why is it not called a slow song?

It refers to a few songs in a row..so a 'set'.

The Marquees usually had a live band playing , in a big tent type thing:D
That's as much as I can remember of them , was in my teens then :)

Cold November Rain. Went on for 10 minutes, even if your were a rocker it was cool to slow dance to Guns n Roses.

Pete Cetera. The Glory of Love. From the karate kid movie.

An awful lot of nostalgia on this thread.

Ah, the all slow set. Got my very first proper shift with a girl at Wesley during one back about '89. Of course, in those days you had the ask your mate to ask her mate if she'd dance with you for the slow set.:D

I'm sure it's all different these days.

The weekend was lost if you didn't get a hickie during the slow set.

The machinations that could be involved.

I cannot believe this song hasn't been mentioned. From my school discos to every dump of a club, (1980s) it was always in the slow set.

I give you Mr. Adrian Gurvitz and Classic.

A lot of nostalgia alright. So many songs that were old and current back then. I got to know a lot of the older ones because of the slow set.

Preferred Save a Prayer and hated True, but True was the more popular in the slow set for some reason.

Nothing like the slow set to clear a dance floor. I'm convinced they only did it to get people to the bar. I hated it.

From experience it only tended to clear the floor for a few mins until couples hooked up and that was only after you had being eyeing up someone from earlier on.

Society was much better at that pre disco when everything was a slow set. And people danced with multiple partners on a night out.

    Youth today have tinder.

Sure dancing with girls, bit gay isn't it? :D

Not everything has to be a slow set...pre disco...
