warm up?

Hey guys, just started doing the Couch to 5km running plan. We actually started on week 2 because we're not totally unfit. Gonna do week 2 twice. My question is about the warm up walk. Because it's so cold out we nearly want to head home during this, but we know we get warm while running, Do we really need to warm up? Can we start running right from the door? I always did years ago when I used to do 5kms for fun.

Any suggestions about stretches or anything, to skip the 5min walk?

Run out the door, first half mile can't go quick enough for me most days I go out, grand once the heart gets pumping.

Stretch abit at the end or better yet, do one of shaun Ts stretch vids, Focus T25 or Insanity Asylum 1/2 have some good ones.

So it's ok to just set off at a run? Week 2 (which we're on) is 2 minutes running and 2 minutes walking. I was thinking if we set off at a two minute run, then a three minute walk, we've caught up with the app. Just don't want to kill us both when we're starting out! I'm sure we'll be fine.

Run up and down the stairs a few times before you head out

Every session begins with a walk. Make it a brisk walk- that's your warm up. You're preparing your body and your muscles for running. Even the latter stages begin with walking. So just follow the plan.

You don't need to do anything else before you start.

Stretch and prep your joints indoors. Run from the door if you want.

Yea, looks good. Run outta the door. Take it handy for first little bit.

If you look up this stuff online you won't know which way is up, it's all contradictory.

Do what feels right, it's hard enough to get into the mindset to do this stuff without freezing your balls off/having to wear forty coats and then be to warm etc, you don't want extra reasons not to go or to take the good out of going at all.

If you want to warm up inside first do high knees with hands cheek to cheek (face cheek ass cheek), do that fast for a min, and min of jumping jacks with arms just to shoulder height fast for a minute and you'll be fairly warm.

You've ran before so you know if you've any trouble spots, calfs usually flare up for people, you could do that quick little warm up and drive calfs into opposite knees. Just stetch anything that you know will give you bother beforehand though you'll be stopping during run anyway so can stretch then anyway.

I think if you don't warm up prior to doing your outdoor run then the blood is not circulating proper an you get pains an sh*t. I wouldn't go out on a run without warming up first. same goes for lifting weights
