My daughter pronounces 'relax' as filax as in "I'm filaxing on the sofa..."

Filaxing is my favourite word ever and I hope she is never corrected.

In a world that so few people make full use of the English language, I'm hoping for great things in this thread. I love words, there is an array of them to describe exactly what you want to say. Vocabulary tends to be limited these days, and one or two syllables will do.

A simple example I've always enjoyed is the word 'onomatopoeia'. It is the creation of a sound that imitates a natural sound, or the sound associated with the objects or actions they refer to. Examples of this would be 'buzz', 'cuckoo', 'splash' or 'bang'.

But what a word to define it.. onomatopoeia :)

Crepuscular - meaning relating to the twilight.
Serendipity - the posh word for good luck
Ennui - meaning that uneasy feeling you get through boredom or disinterest.

But my all time favourite word is Volvo - I don't know what it is it just cheers me up a little bit to say it, or even see it written down. It is the perfect word.

Obviously it also cheers me up to see vulva and to a lesser extent volvic:D

Lots of beautiful words. Some of my favourite words are derived from other languages, especially French. I like the French term that refers to orgasm, La Petite Mort.

Camarilla: a group of courtiers or favourites who surround a king or ruler.

Coterie: a small group of people with shared interests or tastes, especially one that is exclusive of other people.

    Argent: the metal silver

Abasement: to reduce or lower, as in rank, office, reputation, or estimation; humble; degrade

    Occult: clandestine, hidden, secret

Verisimilitude: the appearance or semblance of truth; likelihood; probability

    Rakish and Dissolute.

There's a word to describe a sense of place, as in home, where you belong, but I can't remember it.

"Shovelhead" , a name given to a player in my football team years ago for his habit of making ungainly leaps into the air to head clear the ball with him invariably ending up falling face first to ground.

His now wife ,elder son and various barmen refer to him as "Shovelhead".

    Discombobulated.

And recombobulate. The only known use for which, being after you emerge from the security area in an airport.

Facetious. Something I'm often guilty of being.
