Last year and previous years threads

This usually a good thread, always good to see what team is heavily tipped to drop and survives (Sunderland usually!). They look doomed this year along with Hull(if they sell Snodgrass). Big Sam isn't looking the same since the England job, Burnley and Leicester are struggling badly away from home, Swansea look a shambles at the back but have a few goalscorers whereas Middlesbrough have the opposite problem and Watford have no consistency.

Makes for an interesting last few months!

Here's the table with 16 games left:

Right now I couldn't predict it.

Burnley should have enough to stay up: they have a big points cushion and they have excellent home form.

I'd say the same for Leicester as well, but there seems to be a grim inevitability to the way they are sticking around to the bottom reaches of the table without being able to break free. I have this feeling in my bones that it's going to end badly for them, therby completing the greatest rags to riches and then straight back to rags again story football has ever seen. Some sort of Faustian pact thing going on there.

I think Hull City and Sunderland look certain to go down.

After that it's anyone's guess but I think it's between Swansea and Middlesbrough and I'd just fancy Swansea to avoid the drop of those two.

Burnelys home recoord is insane, 25 of their 26 points have come at home.

Only Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs have a better home record this year.

Leicester and Burnely are the only sides yet to win an away league game.

Bournemouth have 26 points too, like Burnley but I'd say they'll rack up enough points to stay up.

I'd say Sunderland, Hull and Swansea will go down.

    Hull, Sunderland, Swansea for me.

Went with Sunderland, palace, Middlesbrough just for something different. Think Middlesbrough will miss out by a point at most, slip in at the end, the lack of victories costing them. Palace and Hull is a toss-up, went with Palace! Sunderland depending on Defoe at this age is ridiculous, although he seems up to it. Most of the others don't though.

I think Palace will survive. They have some decent players and a manager who knows how to survive a relegation scrap. Granted he's started terribly, but there's a lot of football to be played yet and he's getting some signings in this window.

Hull, Sunderland and Swansea for me.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Hull, Sunderland and Palace - I'm naturally qualifying my picks slightly as Palace are buying - Sunderland look as doomed as a very doomed thing. Hull new manager may give them a chance but still think they'll go down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,602 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Hull and Sunderland banker and I reckon Leicester, the long they stay around the drop zone they will get dragged into the real scrap.
Reminds me of when Newcastle got relegated the first time, they didn't look banker but slowly got dragged into as the season closed, I can see the same thing happening here.

    Hopefully Big Sam.

    Sunderland & Hull for sure.

Where is he anyway? His defiance tt Sunderland will go down even when they're safe is always fun.

I think Watford will be the team who slips down with Hull and Boro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,373 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Sunderland and Hull are gone. I can't see either of them doing it.

I think there's a lot of possibilities from the other teams. At the moment, Boro or Palace look most likely. I'd be delighted to see Palace go down, just to stop all the Allardyce nonsense. I like Karanka so want them to stay up. I think Swansea and Leicester will be able to do enough to stay up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,381 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

Sunderland & Hull to go down.

Probably Swansea as well but have a feeling they could fight til the death if Llorente, Siggy and co start grinding out results, they're match winners.

Big Sam will do a job on Palace, they're strong on paper.

Karanka has Boro well drilled defensively.

Watford could be an outsider to go down.

I think Palace will join Hull and Sunderland.

They really are truly awful at the moment. A solid Last Man Standing tactic is just choose whoever Palace are playing each weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,439 ✭✭✭Boots234

I think Hull and Sunderland definitely and also Middlesbrough. Boro can't score at the moment and they are in the middle of a decent run of games and aren't picking up the wins. Their last 6 games of the season are Arsenal, Bournemouth, Man City, Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool so they would need to be safe from relegation before then

All the bottom 4 picked up points with wins for Swansea and Palace. Leicester in freefall really

Leicester to go from champions to relegated would make an already amazing story even more amazing.

Also a massive game on Saturday between Palace and Sunderland

Do swansea have 3 wins from the last 4?

That's some turnaround. Didn't think Clement would do so well so quickly, notwithstanding his impressive cv.

Leicester made a mockery of the league last season so I hope they don't end up doing the same this season. It wouldn't do anything for the perceived quality of the league if they go down.

So it's Leicester +2 to go down looking at this game . Think Bournemouth could go too

They can't all be relegated. A really **** team is going to stay up.

    It won't be Leicester.

Good win for Swansea yesterday and Hull were unlucky against Arsenal. They both seem to have improved hugely since getting new managers and looks like they could both pull away.
Opposite is true of Palace who are just in complete free-fall now alongside Leicester. Bournemouth also seem to be in a bad run of form but I think they will be OK.
Hard to read how Sunderland and Middlesbrough will finish up, Sunderland have the goalscorer every team needs but cant defend whereas Boro have no quality scorer but seem very solid at the back.

Everyone from Bournemouth down are in trouble, they've City tonight and they'll get nothing from that game either.

The remaining games between the bottom 6 as it stands now are:

    Palace v Boro - GW 26

    Leicester v Hull - GW 27

    Hull v Swansea - GW 28
    Boro v Sunderland - GW 28

    Bourmouth v Swansea - GW 29

    Swansea v Boro - GW 30

    Hull v Boro - GW 31

    Bournemouth v Boro - GW 34

    Sunderland v Bournemouth - GW 35

    Hull v Sunderland - GW36

    Palace v Hull - GW37
    Sunderland v Swansea - GW 37

    Leicester v Bournemouth - GW38

Bournemouth play 4 games, 3 at home.
Swansea play 4 games, 3 away.
Boro play 5 games, 4 away.
Leicester play 2 games, both at home.
Hull play 4 games, 2 home and away.
Palace play 2 games, both at home.
Sunderland play 3 games, 2 away.

Leicester will stay up, it looks like Sunderland, Hull and Middlesbrough with Newcastle being the only team from the North East in the premier league next year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,795 ✭✭✭dr.kenneth noisewater

Really looking bad for Sunderland and Middlesbrough at this stage. I think the 3rd spot is between Hull and Swansea and Swansea probably have the better players. Palace, Leicester and Bournemouth have found a few good results recently and have pulled away slightly while Watford have been dropping down.
    412411.PNG
Big games in the next GW are Watford V Sunderland and Swansea V Middlesbrough

Palace are coming to Stamford Bridge after the international break too so thats going to be very difficult for them to pick up points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,602 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Sunderland and Boro look almost certainly gone.

West Ham are in absolute free fall but should get out of it. Palace getting the results but have some tough games ahead.

Either Swansea or Hull joining the other 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,795 ✭✭✭dr.kenneth noisewater

If Hull win tonight then thats definitely Boro and Sunderland gone I think

Burnley are quietly becoming in danger of the drop, they say home form keeps you up but just one away win would make so much difference to their chances right now.

8 pts clear of Swansea with a much better gd with 5 games to go. 3 of those at home. It would be a big shock if they go down from here they may not need another point. For next season they will definetly need to sort their away form as there is no way they will be as good at home again.

Im getting worried about Burnley now. Both Swansea and hull have Sunderland to play .

Today is the day that that we can finally be put out of our misery. In a way I hope it just gets done and dusted now.

The majority of the crowd have finally turned on Moyes as evident by the chants against West Ham a fortnight ago. If/when we go a goal down at home to Bournemouth today I am genuinely worried about what the crowd will do. I think fans may even try to storm the dugout.

The club have said all along that they will be sticking with Moyes next season but I can't see it happening. Fan pressure has just about reached boiling point and after being so defiant all along he said yesterday that he will look at his future at the end of the season. Beginning of the end for him IMO.

    Sunderland are down.

Hull with a vital peno save and point at Southampton.

    This is the worst thing.

The vast majority of the players will move on. The manager will likely receive a huge pay off.

Basically, the people who suffer and have to face the music are the ones who have done nothing to deserve it.
