This race is one of my fav all year. Not sure too many are that well handicapped despite a competitive looking field. Sonny B was my pick originally but not declared. Bonnie Kate has long looked like having a big win in her and her run behind Empire of Dirt last time over a trip too short was encouraging. 12/1 my bet

The bumper looked like it could have been a great little race at 5 day dec stage, now it's just a Getabird romp by the looks of it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,022 ✭✭✭maximo31

Prince of Scars for me but ground may not be to his liking....few quid on already at 12's and may go in again......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,553 ✭✭✭✭Copper_pipe

Was hoping to see Melon run tomorrow.

4 in a bumper is shocking!

Many of the original entries for that bumper qualify for the Grade 1's in spring so not surprised they are avoiding each other

I'm just going to stick with Ucello Conti, hoping Gordon's winning spree in these races keeps going!

Muck? It's a Thursday, not exactly the card it could've been going by early entries but still very good for a Thursday.

A maiden hurdle walkover, a 102 rating capped handicap, a martinstown muck handicap and a bumper with a 1/10 shot,

Galmoy and thyestes are average enough renewals no real stars on show,

your very good and my very good are very different.

    A maiden hurdle walkover,
That's what happens when a class horse like Bon Papa shows up.
    a 102 rating capped handicap,
Admittedly not a great race at all.
    a martinstown muck handicap
That's rubbish, there are a least 3 very interesting horses in the race (Wood Breizh, Love Rory and Soir De Chantenay).
    and a bumper with a 1/10 shot,
Again, that's what happens when the best horse in a division shows up.
Galmoy and thyestes are average enough renewals no real stars on show,
They're perfectly good renewals, tons of the horses in the Thyestes have either won or gone close in huge handicaps and Grade 1s. The Galmoy has the 2nd and 3rd from the last Grade 1 hurdle in this division, as well as another horses who would have been in the first 4 if not for falling. That's as much as you can expect from a Grade 2. Beginners chase is quite good too.
your very good and my very good are very different.
It's more or less as good as it gets for a Thursday card that's not in a festival.

Calm yourself down there just because my opinion differs to someone else on the quality of a card no need to get worked up, what does the day of the week got to do with anything majority of midweek racing is muck imo this included I rarely have a bet on these mundane thurles clonmel meetings during the week,

There is not a horse running with a prayer of winning at Cheltenham there bar Maldini when hes handicapping, the big race has no handicappers masquerading as a grade 1 animal either imo.

Hoping .. Going to have a good look this evening

Looking at the Galmoy. Ruby has it wrong here Shaneshill should be FAV. I wouldnt be sure the fav will stay 3 miles on this ground and shaneshill stays forever. Hope to god someone goes 3/1 as its then in my bothered to be backing range.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,022 ✭✭✭madmoose

I think with Shanes because he had a fall last time he will go well but be eased round tomorrow and then head for the stayers at the festival.

Was gonna say clondaw is a horrendous price

Clondaw for the stayers hurdle ;)

Would take Snow Falcon in a match against Clondaw tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,722 ✭✭✭posturingpat

How soft is it going to be? Dedigout's been aimed at this all year i'm guessing and if soft enough he can put his hat in the ring getting weight off Snow Falcon who's had a busy enough winter. I like Shaneshill for the Wolrd but if it's genuine soft tomorrow i'd say he could be given an easy enough time of it by Townend.

Im going to have a speculative each way bet on my murphy at 16/1; winner of this race last year and placed here in 2015, i think this has probably been the horses aim yet again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭Peintre Celebre

Backed My Murphy last year thought he hinted at a big one in him. Worst Theystes memories include strongly fancying Notre Pere and the year I couldn't decide between Tarquinius and Jadanli and went with the former. Jadanli at 25/1 beat Tarquinius 20/1 in a photo think I got done near 1.12 that day

Wounded Warrior by far the classiest animal in the race tomorrow. If the race doesn't turn into a slog, it will surely be there or there abouts at the close. If conditions were to get very testing, then I'd also be doing a small bet on Rogue Angel at a huge price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,553 ✭✭✭✭Copper_pipe

Personally don't think Rogue Trader will be beaten. Needs to jump better but I think he's very well in at the weights, same can be said for Prince of Scars who was decent over hurdles. This is his first handicap too.

One of my friends who knows few guys in the mouse morris yard has had a mid lump e.w on rogue angel..

My first 4 for the Thyestes are:

    1st Rogue Trader 7/1
    2nd Prince of Scars 7/1
    3rd Plesant Company 11/1
    4th Rogue Angel 33/1

Think Clondaw Warrior will win tomorrow (11/8 on Betfair).

Was held up for far too long by Katie last time.

She was hands and heels just before the last while the jockeys on Snow Falcon and Shaneshill where pushing away.

Ruby back on board today I see an easy enough win if asked to go and win the race a little sooner than he was the last day.

Place laying Prince of Scars. Ground is quicker than ideal, it's his first handicap and he has looked an absolute hound on his 3 chase starts to date.

I'd disagree, gave him a gem of a ride to my eyes, kidded him into it and he ran the race of his career over hurdles, expect him to get beat today, if the ground's as decent as it's sounding it could be by his own stablemate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭sting60

Really looking forward to my NAP lay at Cheltenham Getabird. This is truly a woeful standard of contest but the wind is howling and the 1/10 shot is a rogue imo and I feel the slightest thing could upset him. There is no doubt Mullins is aware of his kinks and that's why he's out today, but if it's there it's likely to surface at any time and no schooling, training can get rid of it.A race to watch for sure and I hope/ should win by 20l and onwards to Cheltenham.Ucello Conti has to be a big player providing ground is not heavy. He had to run a furlong more than any horse last year looking for better ground and still finished third.I believe his main aim will be the Grand National but he won't get near it of 143 so a big run somewhere has to be expected.Monbeg Chit Chat 8/1 is far far better than his first run and plenty of horses from that stable disappointed around that time,I expect a huge run today.

2:10 Southwell - Crosse Fire is one I typed up here recently, been finally showing some signs of life at a lower level than at previous races. Great record over course and distance and now off a recent low in the weights. Would have liked a better price than 7/2, so only a small bet for me here.

The one horse in this race that is ready to win(entered at Lingfield on Sat in g6) been very well handicapped is Archimedes 16/1.Forget his last run drawn wide and missed break today drawn 1 and if gets a soft lead will be hard to catch .

If anything WW needs it to be a slog, Eddies always said he needs as far as possible on ground as soft as possible

That is a good spot. But best form is over good to firm ground, so I don't think Southwell today will suit. But that race you're talking about at Lingfield, that is interesting.

Just snatched some 20/1 on Conna Cross in the 1:20 at Gowran as a small speculative bet. I am not sure what the jockey was at the last two times, but he's lost the ride and the trainers son now in the saddle. Perhaps the horse is no good anyway, let's see.

2nd, grr. No arguments about the ride this time though, produced at the end like it should be, horse just came up against one that was better on the day.

How? Do people not pay any attention to horses previous? Clondaw needs to be delivered late off a strong gallop, todays race was always unlikely to suit, if he tried go with the pace the horse would've downed tools.
