Suspicious calls

    Hi guys

I don't know if this is in the right forum.

On two occasions in 2007 and 2008 i got a call from sky, who I was with at the time, asking if i wanted an upgrade. They then asked when i would be out, i said no, and took the number down. I am with sky again and the same number rang 20 minutes ago asking if I wanted an upgrade. They knew my name, address, number and that i was a sky customer. He asked about how long I had sky for. He then asked when i would be out so they wouldn't call around when I wasn't there. I then made a big mistake and told him when i was going out tonight. I quickly realised my mistake and hung up. I looked for that note that i wrote th original number down all those years ago, and it was the same!

So where do i go from here, what are they and how do they know my details?
    Thanks

Well, posting to an online forum would be your first point of action!

So... sky called you, you being a Sky customer, and Sky knew you were with Sky and they knew your account details?

It sounds like illuminati to me. Try ringing them back?

Well, there's nothing else for it now - forget going out, setup the .50-cal and dig in. It could be a long one. Can your OH load BMG?

There's a good guide on defending your home called "home alone", it's online.

I don't want to freak you out, but you're worried about keeping them out, when they're worried about keeping you in.

That's what they want him to think. Every call has activated him as a Manchurian candidate.

Op is the guy walking up the long lane to the house, has he passed the gate yet?

Is he standing there watching you long also.

    Do you hear footsteps.

Have you locked all the windows and doors.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,460 ✭✭✭Barry Badrinath

They have been tapping your phone OP.

In Sky Asia, they run shows like Gogglebox (actually, it originated there).

Basically, that little light on the Sky box is a camera and it streams real time videos of YOU and whatever and whoever you are doing to avid tv watching people over yonder in Asia.

You are a big star there at the moment. They want an update on the phonecall.

Ya better be quick, they dont like mid season cliffhangers.

Set fire to the house yourself, don't give them the satisfaction.

Get shoe polish and put it all over your face. Then dress all in black turn all lights off and hide in a hedge.

Clearly they have fallen madly and deeply in love with you and offering new deals is the only way to sate their newfound passion.

Do they keep offering to "upgrade" your package?

Seriously, Call the police. Explain that you received a call from someone claiming to be from Sky and you told them you would be out this evening. Mention the number was a mobile and that you dont believe it was actually from Sky.

Then cancel your plans and stay at home.

However i doubt you have anything to worry about. Its unlikely that some thief has been operating for years with the same scam and mobile number.

The op can never leave the house as sky will be awaiting.

Jeez, I thought I was bad for keeping my old bank statements etc. You kept a piece of paper from almost 10 years ago that had a number scribbled on it?

It's no wonder you're worried someone will break in. They could steal your collection of scrap paper with lotto results from 1993 written on it.

Ring it back, ask them what time they're planning on calling.
Tell them your mace is in the dishwasher and the axe needs to be dusted off and you'd appreciate the heads up.

Was it the same foreigner who was in your house the last time? Or the guys in the field outside the house on another of your attempts?

It's not a joke for sure and it ain't funny either.

This is a forum called After Hours. This is a place where you will get a mix of serious and not so serious answers.

There are bazillions of ways that someone could have your details so you won't find that answer here.

If you are concerned for your safety then please call the Gardaí.

They called them last time they came out took details and left then the op had a very important meeting or thing on and had to leave.

There were footsteps outside. They then saw a person in the 10 mile long drive they have. The guy was standing at the gate.

Then there was the illegal immigrants hiding in the attic and so on.

It could have been Jeremy Beadle trying to play a trick on you except that he is dead.

Unless they mentioned Babestation in the conversation?

That's a bit unfair. The X Files had an element of credibility.

I got a phone call this morning from some foreign chick telling me hackers were trying to invade my 'computer'. I asked her how she got my landline as I never give it out as it's a work line. She told me she had my address and phone number and it was registered to my computer. I asked her what kind of PC I had and she couldn't answer me. She was very aggressive so I got aggressive right back at her.She ended up hanging up on me. I would worry about old people answering these calls and believing her. Makes me very angry.
