Connacht need something from this game.Even a losing bonus point would do them here.Undoubtedly they will give it their all and have already beaten Toulouse at home in Galway.Obviously Connacht are down a lot of first choice players so it would be a mammoth task for them to beat Toulouse at home.

Connacht score 3 points, Toulouse have to score 11
Connacht score 5 points, Toulouse have to score 13

Screw all the permutations. Simply put we have to win this.
I'm hopeful after the last injury report and the players returning

Or simply lose by 1-7 points

I'd take that right now :pac:

    I'd take a 0-0 draw

Preventing Toulouse from a bonus will be enough.

Incredibly important game for many reasons. The promise of last season was the foundation of what was to come from Connacht. With a squad of home grown talent and cast offs from around the world the win in the pro12 final was almost cinematic in it's scope and inspiring in it's reach.

With the departure of Lam that promise now rests on a less stable foundation. Progression this weekend into the knock out stages says that Connacht is ready to dine at the top table and one would imagine it changes the narrative in terms of what the club can offer any incoming coaches.

A loss tomorrow despite the circumstances of the group and the last year becomes a blip. With qualification for top 6 in the pro12 and playoffs looking more challenging by the round I think it's critically important for Connachts evolution from what they were to what they nearly are that they take account of their future and put Toulouse to the sword.

I will find something green to wear on Sunday.

No, Connacht still needs to get a BP.

If Toulouse get 4 points and Connacht get 0, they'll be level on 18 points. Then it comes down to aggregate points difference. Connacht beat Toulouse by 2 points so they're +2 going into the match but, by virtue of the fact that Connacht got 0 points from they match, they will have lost this match by more than 7 points which puts Toulouse +6 on aggregate and they'll take second place.

    Connacht needs to:

    a) Win
    b) Draw
    c) Lose with a LBP and deny them a TBP
    d) Lose with a TBP and deny them a TBP
    e) Lose with a LBP and a TBP and Toulouse gets a TBP

Connacht needs to get at least 3 match points fewer than Toulouse from this match. So lose 4-1, 4-2, 5-2, draw or win.

    I guess, 30 (3 tries, 3 conversions, 3 penalties) to 20 (4 tries).

If any team is shaky enough on goal kicking to manage that, it's Connacht.

Buckley starts. Carty starts. Robb in for Parata at 13. Roux Fox matamua and Heenan come into pack.

Not quite! If Toulouse win with a TBP but Connacht lose with both a TBP and LBP they will also go through.

It happened against Glasgow last year so it's not impossible!

Gnarly looking team nonetheless. Toulouse not holding back it seems.

I was just looking back at this to see how we beat them.
Their lineouts and kicker are a bit dodge.
Their defence was poor at times as well.
It's a bit like playing against ourselves.
A high scoring game could be on the cards.

Obviously the big change for us is Robb instead of Aki.
I hope Robb can step up and show us some of the handling he had last year.
I think our stronger front row will more than make up for the absence of Dillane

My memory of being at the game was feeling we let them away with the LBP.
We had them under pressure for the last 10 minutes and needlessly kicked the ball away.

Just FYI folks, Stade's home challenge cup game has been postponed and sky are filling the two hours with basically connacht highlights and discussion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,635 ✭✭✭irishgeo

Sky have a problem with stande Francis vs quins delayed till 2.30pm they can't show that and connacht which is scheduled to kick off at 3.15pm on Sky Sports 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,620 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

Will Greenwood just filled a solid 3 minutes with a monologue on why Cartys kick was harder than Gopperths. Absolutely OTT. but it's lovely to listen to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭MarinersBlues

Greenwood is very very good at filling empty airtime and talking ****e. He has used an impressive array of comparisons, sporting and otherwise.

If one has to go surely it'll be the challenge cup match as opposed to the champions cup.

Was wondering why they were talking like they were filling dead air.
Guess Stade game will move to red button
