RPSI Events 2017

Just a holding title for news of RPSI trains and events this year.
Let's hope I can get over and back in 2017 without it involving ten days in hospital - one motor written off before we even got to Ireland and then the very next day our other car getting clobbered at Dublin Port - so much for a fourteen year clean sheet!
We have booked on the Shannon and Suir and have planned a Pendolino to Crewe and Voyager to Holyhead - Ulysses to Dublin and Enterprise up north, then after returning from the weekend Stena to Twelve Quays and FTPE back home for our regular railway night at the Buffet Bar!
Let's hope for sunny days and reliable motive power!

Going on the Diesel railtour on April 8th myself. All profits will go towards making 134 and 141 based in Connolly shed ready for tours in the future.

I was ignorant of Twelve Quays, found it in Birkenhead on wikipedia.

You must be sailing there from Belfast, as Stena from Dublin goes to Holyhead.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience last year, I am sure all boards.ie users wish you the very best in 2017.

Will be on the 8th April tour myself. That should be a good day out.

Not sure if to travel or chase the May railtour yet.

I'm travelling in April, we had a tremendous time last year on the snowy 2 day tour to Kerry. (We were the party who'd drank all the Guinness by Portlaoise on the way back ! :-D )

However I was surprised to see my cheque cashed for the tickets last week, going back to ITG tour days they used to say they didn't cash cheques until near the date because if the tour had to be cancelled it was easier to post the original cheque back than to write out hundreds of new ones.

Just rolling into Belfast on the Enterprise - Duchess in steam at Crewe! The Astor - ex Kungsholm - that sank the Andrea Doria off New York in 1957 at Holyhead. Glorious sail on the Ulysses doing my photos of 60103 and 60163 from the last few days - sunset over Newry with a Guinness to complete -
85 off Whitehead in the morning - good days!

Does anyone know yet which loco will haul the train on Saturday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 TBirdFrank

85 on the mark as usual - steam touring this side of the Irish Sea as always is off to a splendid start. Wynns was a bit off colour at first but eventually got us a room - so a spare today tomorrow and then off to the South West again.

    Let's hope the weather holds!!!

Isn't it great that CIE maintain all these railway backwaters so that enthusiasts can play trains on them. Where will they operate their trains when a few more closures fall into place? For that matter where will Belmond be able to go, or Railtours Ireland, by coach to places formally served by rail?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,795 ✭✭✭Isambard

service train ahead of it was quite well filled I thought.

Del.Monte - which particular line are you referring to when you say "railway backwaters"?

The motorway in the video is bumper to bumper.

Its fairly sparse alright. Its not the M50 although it is rather busier on weekdays.

Coming onto a harness thread and posting disruptively is nothing but off topic and trolling .

Don't post on this thread again.

Exactly - paying traffic, whether it be ticket revenue, freight or charter is all filling up the black side of the books.

Sorry people like our contributor need to get both a life and an an understanding.

Just waiting for the off from Connolly - expected to be No 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 TBirdFrank

No 4 and ex BR MkIIs tucked up in Whitehead after another great weekend courtesy of everyone at RPSI and the operators.
Even the weather joined in! I know there are a few loose ends to tie up but nothing is beyond repair!

    See you's all next time!

RPSI have changed the timings for this event (see link). Departure from Connolly is now at the later time of 2pm. Merlin, cucumber sandwiches and lashings of ginger beer await - should be a cracker ! :D

According to their events list - yes.

That September trip Belfast - Dublin - Rosslare is a charter for the modern railway society of Ireland so ticket sales are via the MRSI rather than the RPSI

Tomorrow 85 is due to conduct light engine trials Connolly-M3 Parkway-Clonsilla-M3 Parkway-Connolly, due to leave Connolly at 09.45.
