Opinions on thigh gaps on women? Hot or not? Not talking about anorexic women obviously-more naturally slim women with thigh gaps.

Big no from me, that level of slim doesn't appeal to me physically, especially stick legs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭littlevillage

big YES from me. Slim or Athletic girls, tend to have an inch or two (when wearing tight jeans etxc.) at the crotch, very sexy....anything over 2 inches would be weird though ... rodeo rider, anyone ??

So long as the underlined bit isnt in play, hot for me anyway.

Yeah, once it's from general fitness rather than under eating, I'd find it pretty appealing. Wouldn't be something I'd look for in a woman but a pleasant surprise if it was there.

Don't really care, and it's such an odd thing to focus on. I know a girl who's pretty thickly built but has a thigh gap and thinner ones who don't.

Its something I'd never noticed until it was explicitly pointed out to me.

Its not something I would find attractive in itself.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Yeah it's a bit Sheldon Cooper, boys on Reddit who only view women through binoculars alright.

Good point. Actual human beings are far too variable to point to something so particular as a "thing". There can be an element of the beauty industry latching onto to such things as yet another way to make women paranoid and sell them their crap. Cellulite another example. I've known larger women with none and very thin women with lots.

Hot - but not if it caused by rickets

Had never heard of 'thigh gaps' until there was some scandal a couple of years back about models being photo shopped to include a thigh gap.

My legs are slim but I don't have a thigh gap, I do have small narrow hips. But it looks like thigh gaps are again something thats in the genes they come from having wide hips :)

Some women could be extremely slim or fit and toned to within an inch of their life and not have one. Others could be overweight and inactive and have one. Always thought it was a bizarre thing to fixate on.

I remember way more girls than guys going on about it when it was a "thing" a while back. Within a week the moral panic crew were on TV going on about pressure on girls.

:D well some men would, some men wouldn't, but IMH it would be far more women worrying about it, than men noticing, or being put off by it.

Aye. Insecurity is a great tool for advertisers and marketing types and it's damn near the goto option when selling beauty products to women. Because it works and seems to bypass the critical thinking even in the most intelligent of people. When you see adverts for hair products featuring women with hair extensions, or anti wrinkle creams featuring 16 year old models it says it all. On the moral panic brigade? TBH it would be an area where I can see their point under the "panic".

And there was me thinking these gaps were caused on some ladies by wearing jeans that were virtually sprayed on. Lol

Doesn't appeal to me either. You have to be a literal stick to have them ie. a possibly dangerously low body fat depending on your build.

Of course, according to the radicals of Tumblr, I'm not allowed to think like that anymore :(

Duck arses and Camel toes ....

animals come into it a lot ! :D

"Daylight factor*"; this has been around since (at least) 2000 - it's not a new phenomenon.

(as in how much daylight could be seen!)

Ha! :pac: I heard about it for the first time a good few years ago when a friend referred to it as the "giggle gap".

That's not true, it depends on the shape of your legs, as well as how slim you are. You certainly don't have to be underweight.

    And I'd imagine ones hips...

Certainly there are plenty of healthy women with daylight factor.

I think this whole thigh gap phenomenon has been driven more by women than men.

Our minds don't pick up on things as subtle as a little space between a woman's thighs, when we see a woman for the first time we quickly assess her cleavage, her legs and her arse, take a summary glance at her face, and make a decision as to whether we fancy her or not.

If I was going out with a girl who happened to have a thigh gap she'd probably have to point it out to me before I'd notice it.

Yeah not at all. I've always had one and I'm certainly not what you'd call skinny, five foot 1 and eight stone. Even when I'm up a stone I'd still have one. Have never had any guy comment either positively or negatively either. Noone has ever commented at all in fact.

I think it's one of those media "things" that actually has no basis in real life off your ridiculous catwalks that are coveted mainly by women and gay men.

Women have always had 'gaps' ..... Men have always noticed it.
Now theres 'Pages' and websites dedicated to it....... Its the way it is, god or bad.
Personally, I think it is ..... attractive, but if theres not one (its hardly the first thing a man would look for when looking at a woman!) theres no big deal.

Saying that , some women will flaunt/show off/emphasise theirs .....

    Probably this.

Deffo not this. Male sexaulity isn't as blunt an instrument as it'd be made out to be. Certainly when push come to shove, most of us aren't that picky, but subtle tiny nuances (like daylight factor) certainly light our fires. Kinda like adding a flame to petrol....

It's not something I ever notice. I mean does it not depend on how far she has her legs spread apart? What if she walks with duck feet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 200 ✭✭Paullimerick

Glad the focus on the thigh gap never really gained much traction because if it did it could have vilified both women who don't have one and, on the pushback, women who do. Of the slim, in shape women I know, some have it, some don't.

And judging by your other thread she's bat**** crazy.

Thankfully a thigh gap seems to be discussed far more by silly people on social media and women's magazine than in reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,280 ✭✭✭✭Eric Cartman

If a woman is proud to have one, points it out or did anything to try and achieve one then I have 0 interest. Its just yet another shallow thing invented by somebody to shame women into looking a certain way. Its not something to be admired, desired, shamed or worked towards / against in my book.

In general I like curvier women who would be less likely to have one, but this is biology we're talking about so anything is possible.
