For all the Fanboys myself included Nathan Fillion is due to have a recurring role in this.

    Yeah, not sure about this...

.. I like the cast (Olyphant, Fillion and Oswalt and to a lesser extent Barrymore) but it's just feels a bit too familiar.

Found it fairly entertaining. Weird to see the waitress from It's always sunny in something else. Also glad that Oswalt's role is very small.

Was very skeptical about this, I had to be convinced to watch it, but I loved the first two episodes.

The tone and some of the performances - particularly from Timothy Olyphant - had me in stitches. God bless them for making the gore as gloopy and visceral as possible.

I'm not sure that they can maintain a story over ten episodes, and there's a bit of awkwardness in the direction at times - too many jumpy cuts - but I've been impressed enough so far.

Watched the first episode and thought it was awful rubbish. If Drew Barrymore wasn't attached to it, it would never have seen the light of day. If you want a decent comedy drama about Zombies watch iZombie, which is also on Netflix.

I couldnt get to the end of the first episode. The quality of netflix productions seems to have dropped dramatically in the last year or so (with the exception of designated survivor). Large buget by the numbers fare!

Didn't think much of the first but enjoying it more as it goes on. Olyphant is the star.. don't think much of Barrymore though I never rated her comedic ability anyways. Sorta like Weeds in it's dark dramedy with solid little cliffhangers to keep you coming back.

What? That's an ABC Studios production.

And is probably the most cliched tired network TV show I've seen in a LONG time!

Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant seem like they are in two different shows their style is so different. Olyphant is being a bit too wacky, to the point that when Joel first thinks Sheila is dead and is crying and cradling her body, Olyphant actually appears to be laughing at the absurdity rather than grief stricken. Barrymore is just really bad and has a very detached way of delivering her lines that I can see is supposed to be a sign of her following her id but is just coming off as poor acting. The script dialogue is full of zingers but they are delivered in such away that I'm feeling like they are zingers written by a team of writers being recited as opposed to anything the characters are genuinely feeling and saying.

It wasn't all bad, I'll likely watch another season if there is one. I quite enjoyed the character of Eric, instead of the awkward nerd cliche he was very self-aware and had a streak of confidence and common sense that was enjoyable to see on his type of character. And I actually loved Portia De Rossi as Dr Wolf. But overall it was a poor substitute for the fantastic iZombie.

(with the exception of designated survivor).

Seriously though, that program is an awful bucket of crap.

I really like the first episode of Santa Clarita Diet anyway. If you watch nothing but zombie type shows you might find it too familiar, I don't and found it quite refreshing.

If you have time, check out Olyphants interviews with Conan on YouTube..
He's an awesomely funny guy, very wacky and chilled out..

Just watched the first 2 episodes..
Some good moments, some forced moments..

Olyphant has 1 killer line.. "act natural".. Floored me...

    That. F*cking. Ending.

I hate shows that end on a cliffhanger without any kind of resolution of plot points. She's chained to the bed - phone rings, "Oh, one of us will be free." Credits. And then the "Watch X show next" box popped up as it does when the the particular show you're watching has no more episodes.

I liked it. It managed to draw a line between cheesy caper and excessive gore.

For a show that pretty much nailed a solid cliffhanger at the end of each episode, the ending was a bit disappointing!

Hah this show is gas, on episode 4 atm

Exactly how I felt. It seemed like a midseason finale to a network show, or Part 1 of a 2-part finale. Very odd that it was so low key, compared to the endings of the other episodes.

    I f*cking loved this!

Olyphant is excellent and suits this comedic role perfectly.

    "F*cking dogs"

I've never been a fan of Drew Barrymore, but she also nails this character and the 2 of them work really well together.

But the star of the show by far is the neighbour teenage nerd boy. Legend.

Wasn't sure after the first episode but the more I watched, the more I got in to it and I'd go as far as to say I loved it!
Zingy dialogue, Olyphant is excellent and though I thought Drew Barrymore was a little wooden to start, it became apparent that was the delivery style and thought she played the character well.
Agree neighbour's nerd son is the star!

Bit hit and miss for me. Finale was a let down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,000 ✭✭✭wonderboysam

Personally I find the nerdy neighbour kid unoriginal and cliché, to my suprise I'm finding Drew Barrymore the funniest.

One episode left, god I hope this gets renewed!

I'm 5 minutes in to the first episode and there's been two former Desperate Housewives actors!

I'm surprised at the universal acclaim. I find it just about watchable, often very awkward and wide of the mark. As well as being willing to give anything zombie a fair chance, I love Olyphant and Barrymore - I think for me, they're the only reason I even saw it through. Olyphant in particular carries it quite well and has pretty good comedy chops despite a very weak script.

I was eating my dinner when I was watching the first episode. Had to turn it off and haven't gone back since.

First episode has goriest scenes - they become more comedic afterwards as you start to understand the humor in the show.

Quite good easy viewing. Only problem is the next season is probably a year away.

I didn't like the pilot at all, finding it crude and very poor next to iZombie. Did it get significantly better to merit worth watching more?

Nope. I think it declined as it went on. It's nowhere near as good as izombie, my biggest problem is the cheesy, awkward script.

It's nowhere near as good as izombie,

To be fair, izombie is absolutely top notch so SCD doesn't have to come close to still be mildly enjoyable.

I think it was better than first season. A lot more consistent and funnier

I'm 3 episodes in and finding it so much better than season 1. It's much funnier, the chemistry between the actors has improved and the whole thing is flowing better.

Just finished the second series this morn. Love the characters but found the storylines a bit meh. It was enjoyable though. Maybe I should have spaced out the series and not watched it in two sittings.

Watching season 2 now and I think it's really a lot better than the first season (which was very watchable, but not much more I felt). It's more consistent in tone and script, without any of the too frequent clunky moments in the first season.

Not finished yet but so far I like it!

Only tried this on a whim recently, I've like olyphant since Justified, Deadwood and the movie 'Go', and hes fantastic in this, there's something immensely watchable about his exasperated demeanor.
