Anyone watching this. Im really enjoying it but then again I loved the Andrew Loyd Webber on when it was on.

A lot less faffing than the x factor, its more about the singing

    Loving it!!!

Just watching it on record. The opening song with Gary in the shower put me off a bit but the main show was worth a look. It will be interesting to see how the ratings compare with The Voice U.K. On itv.

The Guardian's Stuart Heritage has even less time for this new show than he has for The Voice, it would appear:

    https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2017/jan/05/let-it-shine-v-the-voice-let-the-battle-for-most-intolerable-show-begin

Overnight figures for both shows more or less the same.

Huh? It's only just started - too soon to say whether or not it'll return next year, and whether it'll be better or poorer if it does return...

Is the premise Gary is looking for stars for Take That the musical?

Yep, its going to be about a boy band to the music of take that. Its not going to be about take that themselves.

Such a good show so different than anything else on tv at the moment.

Loved the opening number and the collaborations. The talent and standard is unreal.

Anyone watching the live show tonight? I like that its only on for an hour, shouldnt be too much faffing around. Just straight to the music.

First band were like The Overtones and were the best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 350 ✭✭yogibear77

The first ones were definitely the best, very slick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,262 ✭✭✭✭Autosport

Cant believe it's the final next week. Loved the opening number and the only band I thought weren't the best were the band who sang Girls on film but great show

Me too, have to say I think it's the best 'talent' type show I've seen on tv in a long time. It's very slick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 350 ✭✭yogibear77

Me too, its not full of sob stories. They just get on with the singing. Delighted with who won. Thought they were the most consistent.

Yeah thought it'd be them or nightfall, think Gary wanted nightfall. Robbie seemed off his head a bit

    Who won?

5 to 5. Always liked them especially the blond guy, reminds me of the little blond haired one in the backstreet boys.

Alfie Bowe and Michael Ball knocked it out of the park. Phenomenal.

I was wondering that to, what if someone got sick etc. They will surely have to someone to step in

What happened in somewhere over the rainbow was that the runner up did the Wednesday show and holidays of the winner , then the following year the runner up did the lead. I'm sure the other boys are on stand by that don't get other work. But I'd say a good few will get calls for other shows based on their time on let it shine.

So apparently the winning band are not playing lead roles as in Take That in the musical, if true very misleading by Gary

Yeah I just read that they will sing 14 take that songs but the musical is set around 5 girls, Gary apparently came out and said "I never said it will be acting"

I thought the story was about a group of girl friends and the band is the music in the background to what's going on in the girls life? musical is called the band, are the lads not the band?

It was clear in the finale that the five winning boys play the band but the focus of the musical is five girls who follow the band around. I presume the girls will have the acting/spoken parts and the boys provide the musical and dancing parts. It's a shame that wasn't more clear from episode one.
