Lottie Ryan - Opinions?

    Opinions on Lottie Ryan anyone?

She was filling in for Bernard, Keith and Jen yesterday morning on Breakfast Republic. I've only heard her in short segments before, didn't like her, but said I'd keep 2fm on yesterday to give her a listen. Maybe she'd be better on a full show....

Shocked by how sloppy the whole thing was. I listened from 7.20 to 8.45. The amount of mistakes she made was unbelievable. Sounded as if she wasn't prepared at all, even that she didn't understand the Breakfast Republic format.

Every morning around 7 they do request wars where they pick 2 songs and people vote for which song they want to hear. They then play the song with most votes at around 7.20. Very simple? Yesterday morning at 7.20 she reintroduced Request Wars. Explained the process and the two songs that had been up. At this point you'd expect her to announce which song had won, but no she phoned a young girl who had entered a competition. Talked with her for a minute then said "so X you've been playing request wars... which song..." long awkward pause and Lottie suddenly jumps in "oh sorry no you entered our competition to win Y". Child didn't speak for rest of call. I was cringing listening to it all. Lottie then got back to Request Wars and quickly played the winner. Did she not listen to herself explaining it all like? No where in her intro did it say anything about calling someone to "play request wars".

At least when Keith etc make a mistake they make a laugh out of it ("I'm not qualified") - Lottie just fired ahead.

She introduced Jen's Bits then at 8.10 at Greed's spot. (Caller waiting on line to play Greed and she ranted about being excited to finally get to do Jen's Bits).

Car crash radio. It was like an intern had been given a Sunday night 3am slot. Lottie has been around for a good while too so surely she should be better.

This whole energetic "oh yeah like totally" nonsense at 7 in the morning is too much too. Comes across as fake.

    Anyone else hear her yesterday

She's absolutely awful, it's painful to try and listen to her. The second I hear her voice I have to change to something else.

What local or regional stations was she on before getting into 2fm? She must have had a really good demo tape to have gotten a gig on national radio

    Lottie is just irritating.

Gerry Ryan will be seven years dead this year, believe it or not. It's time for RTE to move on. I can only assume she's on the books because of loyalty to her dad. There are probably people listening to 2fm now who barely remember him.

Dreadful on the radio....it's so fake it is insulting. ./ ..anyone remember her on late late show & she says to turbidy she wouldn't "discuss" her father?? Nepotism in RTE at its finest.

Well in fairness she shouldn't have to discuss the most painful thing that's ever happened to her on the TV or drag up dirt on her dad for the entertainment of the nation. If she was talking about him people would say she was playing the family card everytime she got the chance . If she isn't good then it isn't her fault that she's employed in RTE . I haven't heard her myself so I couldn't say.

At least I know what she's saying, better than having a bogger (all above) on the radio.

The point she was trying to make on lls was that it "didn't matter" who her father was.....the implication being she landed such a top-pay coveted role in montrose based on her own merits....no need for an interview / apprenticeship / demo tape etc. Now if she was talented & had huge listenership figure ...fair enough but she just isn't all that

Most of your complaints should be directed to the producer imo. When someone stands in the show isn't identical to the regular show.
I haven't heard Lotti in a few years so can't comment on how good or bad she is now

If you can believe Wikipedia, she did serve some sort of "apprenticeship".

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lottie_Ryan

She studied media and television in college for five years before moving to New York where she did 16-hour shifts with CBS on The Good Wife.

I think she was on Spin 1038 for a short while doing News or maybe that was someone else?

    Here is a Wiki Bio;

IMO there are others in RTE that should be more urgently called out, shes young and hopefully will show prospect.

She has as much talent as her sister Bonnie, who is so talented she managed to get to sing on that other hotbed of talent Ray D'Arcy's show.

Still waiting to see her booked to play Wembley, Croker etc.

The Clare FM breakfast show is far more superior, the presenter is chirpy and very sharp during the mornings.
It would be great for 2fm to maybe listen to local stations and take a few lessons.

A lot of Local stations are a far better than what 2fm has to offer.

As for Lottie Ryan I never heard of her until I read the OP

I'm not angry. Just plssed off that I'm paying for her "apprenticeship ". How much she's getting seems to be some kind of state secret.

She has been trucked around TV, radio, concerts and christ knows where else at our expense over the past few years. It's not her talent that's getting her there, it's her family name.

It's a state body. There should be no place for blatant nepotism in it. By RTE indulging her they are denying somebody else a potential career in media.

She's mediocre at best, even RTE know that. Time for her to go.

Why are you so bothered, if she didnt have the job someone else would have it and "you" would be paying for them.

No, that isn't the point! It is bloody clear how Lottie got the job in vast majority of people's logic. If you are blind enough or just want to go against the grain by thinking she is there on merit ,to think she would be sitting in national radio station studio if her daddy wasn;t G. Ryan, that is your perogative.

Essentially you are saying there are no better candidates than Lottie for the job, yeah?

Her auld lad probably had something signed that said she had to be hired. 'coz she wouldn't get a job anywhere else.

Such blatant nepotism tends to have that affect on people.

At one stage RTE were seriously considering giving her brother, Rex, a sitcom on 2fm. Thankfully it never got to air...

For me anyway she is a great example of where RTE (and especially 2FM) have fecked up over the years. Lousy presenters who love the sound of their own voices and fail to connect with the audience.

It's clear that she still gets airtime because she's a Ryan.

I'll be switching the dial in future if she's on.

There are a number of threads/posts about her before this thread, but they could well have been before the poster in question had joined up. But the thing is she has been mentioned in the media for a few years now and not too long after Gerry Ryan died.

If they had chosen her for the job then it is likely that there were no auditions or adequate checks for someone who actually had talent.
As someone who must finance RTE but doesn't get the value from it, I'm not happy with nepotism being blatantly at play here.

Oh okay then, sure that's fine then.

2FM is haemorrhaging listeners. The presenters are generally crap. The music is generally crap. This will affect advertising revenues and over time, we will be expected to pay more to keep the sinking ship going.

I've tried listening to her a few times this week, but she's absolutely horrendous. It's disgusting to see her get a prime national radio spot based on who her dad was when there are countless presenters with more talent building experience and grinding it out on community and regional stations.

No, I imagine the poster is using the evidence of common bloody sense. You honestly think Lottie Ryan went through an audition! ! I honestly think you must be just arguing her case for the sake of it.

Do you honestly think there are no better presenters out there that have applied to RTE radio for a job.....
