Scarlets v Ulster Match thread

    Scarlets

15 Johnny McNicholl, 14 Liam Williams, 13 Jonathan Davies, 12 Hadleigh Parkes, 11 Steff Evans, 10 Dan Jones, 9 Gareth Davies, 1 Rob Evans, 2 Ken Owens ©, 3 Werner Kruger, 4 Jake Ball, 5 Tom Price, 6 Lewis Rawlins, 7 James Davies, 8 John Barclay

Replacements; Ryan Elias, Wyn Jones, Nicky Thomas, Joshua Macleod, Will Boyde, Aled Davies, Aled Thomas, Steff Hughes

    Ulster
    15-9): L Ludik, A Trimble (captain), L Marshall, S McCloskey, J Stockdale, P Jackson, P Marshall;
    (1-8): C Black, R Best, R Kane, K Treadwell, I Henderson, C Ross, C Henry, S Reidy;

    Replacements (16-23): J Andrew, A Warwick, J Simpson, F van der Merwe, P Browne, D Shanahan, B Herron, T Bowe.

Huge game for both teams, a loss would be absolutely disastrous for Ulster and put them 7 or 8 points behind the Scarlets. Scarlets won't want to be losing either.

No Pienaar for Ulster is a huge loss and Piutau seems to have been rested. Not too bad though because Ludik is quality and in the form of his life.

    Prediction:

Scarlets to scrape a win, LBP for Ulster. Paul Marshall to screw up a few times and awec to be angry about it.

Any special event that has Trimble captaining Ulster?

Oh wow, Jim Neily replaced by Michael McNamee?

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    No way that's a try.

Jim was making a shocking amount of mistakes with player names recently, more than usual.

What a cracking try saving tackle from Jackson, but rubbish kick in the first place.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    6-0 Scarlets.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    6-3 , scrappy game really.

    TRY ULSTER!

    Stockdale.

Ulster maul on left hand side, taken by Marshall who passes to McCloskey, breaks the line and offloads to Stockdale who runs in free.

Nice break and offload from McCloskey.

Thought the red was a bit trigger happy telling Marshall to use it as maul was still moving, good set price move though and lovely line for the offload and try.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Marshall with a bollocks kick results in us back on our own 5 metre line.

Christ. Can Marshall stop kicking away turnover ball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

    Ulster winning? Marshall for Ireland

    Ulster winning? Marshall for Ireland
Winning despite him to be honest, he's our worst player. We'd probably be further ahead if we had a good 9.

Some good rugby from Ulster in fact, despite the conditions. And despite Marshall, I suppose its de rigueur to add.

Some decent possession as the half went on. Hopefully they can keep that up in the second half.

I always get a laugh out of the ****e that gets thrown in as filler instead of ads on BBC NI. Ulster Rugby master chef. Seriously.

I didn't see it, did they promote the cookbook (or would that even be allowed)?

Mitrea needs to learn the rules of the maul.

No it was a puff piece about them teaching the academy lads about nutrition and they had a masterchef competition for them.

Marshall moving his team around at the speed of oh, I don't know, the Perito Moreno glacier...

    The continental drift defence.

Pack can't seem to make a single yard with the ball though.

I don't think that should be given as high tackle as the scrum half is already going down

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    Daft.

How can he give a yellow now but not to them in the first half?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Utah_Saint

These new tackle laws are shocking

That all came from a Scarlets penalty that was never a penalty in a million years. Henderson perfect turnover, absolutely text book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Can't say that was going to be a definite try either so don't think it should have been a penalty try.

Think these new laws are going to cause chaos.

Reidy was fine imo but Trimble was lucky with his swinging arm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭Sinbad_NI

Let's see what this one looks like.

Basically guaranteed try when you get scrum or maul within 5 Metres

Going to be some amount of yellows with these laws

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    These new rules are dumb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,281 ✭✭✭Boscoirl

Even less in that and I think Ball is a dirty player

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭Sinbad_NI

    Consistent from ref at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Utah_Saint

That was never a yellow lol...they've destroyed rugby

That's what I thought too. Should have been Trimble in trouble if anything.

Ah, wtf. How is that a yellow. Such an over reaction these new laws

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭coco0981

Players are going to have to completely change their tackling technique to go low from now on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,166 ✭✭✭✭Zzippy

    Farce

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

No tackling from the waist up, just in case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Utah_Saint

Being tall is now a disadvantage wen defending.
