Has to be Ibra, the man is on fire.

Have Zlatan and Costa.....gonna be a close call.

FWIW Fantasy Scout is picking Costa based on Boro's defence being marginally less crap than Stoke's.

Leaning towards Costa slightly myself at the minute

Same decision as last week for me - Ibra or Sanchez.

Obviously Ibra paid off but Sanchez was very unlucky not to have a couple of goals.

    Sanchez atm

Costa for me. Most reliable armband wearer of my season!

    Sanchez.

Ibra was my first captain success in about 6 weeks so I'm sticking with him.

Between Ibra, Costa & Sanchez!! Possibly even Hazard!

The fact that captain choices can make the difference of a good and bad week makes this so difficult

It's on Costa at the minute and will likely stay on him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,962 ✭✭✭Hogey007

On Costa at the moment purely as I feel he's most nailed on to start after being suspended for the last game & much bigger gap to the spurs game.
Ibra has a 50 hour gap between boro and then a trip to London.
I suspect he'll be rested a little for the west ham game.
That could mean being subbed after 60 mins or being held on bench and only used if united aren't winning.
Will know more after Jose press conference though and if he confirmed he was starting I'd lean towards ibra.

Ibra gunning to beat Messi in most goals scored this year. He's just one behind. That'll be a fair motivation.

This is a very good point. I'm leaning towards Ibra now.

On Sanchez a.t.m. Palace only have one available centre back (Dann) and may play a somewhat weakened side anyway with a much more important game for them vs Swansea two days later. Costa/Hazard both tempting mind you. Hazard could easily have had a massive haul vs Bournemouth

    It's the logical choice.

Is it mad to consider Pogba? His banging on the door for a massive score soon. Didn't captain Ibra last week but getting drawn to Pogba now....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,174 ✭✭✭pimpmyhat

    Delle or Kane
I expect spurs to score a few away to watford

It wouldn't quite qualify as mad but it's certainly not sensible.

Having taken a Sanchez blank on the chin I'm tempted to commit to the Sanchez autocaptain theory.

Ibra, Costa, Hazard, Sanchez will 100 all have big hauls in the coming weeks. They will all blank when they "shouldn't" too.

Hopping from one to the other each week could be epic if you land on the hauls of course, bit could just as likely step on the landmines. Haven't looked in detail at my captain figures but I feel like I've been doing a lot of the latter, after having a decent start to the season from captains.

An autocaptain, and Sanchez has what look like the best, potentially high goal scoring fixtures, could be a more probable chance of a decent if unspectacular return.

Wouldn't captain Sanchez myself if Giroud is starting.

Giroud started vs WBA and Sanchez had heaps of chances and could have scored a hat trick.

Are you saying that if Sanchez had 8 shots in his next match, as he did in his last, you would expect him to score 3 points again. Because I wouldn't.

If you are a person who bases their decisions on recent underlying stats, then Sanchez is the man to captain, if you believe he will get 90 mins.

I'm basing my decision on Ibrahimovic being involved in United's last 7 goals and having double digit hauls in the last three weeks. I would even captain Costa over Sanchez this week.

Yeah that's fine and a good reason to chose Ibra. That Sanchez only scored 3 last week is not a good reason not to captain him though.

I reckon there are at least 5 players you couldn't criticise anybody for captaining this week.

Agreed. But the point originally made was that Giroud playing affects Sanchez potential returns.

I get it. My point is that if Sanchez was presented with a similar number of goalscoring opportunities again, he would score more than 3 points. The system with Giroud in it has allowed Sanchez to have 9 shots, 4 of which were on target.

I guess I just focus on the process ahead of the outcome. To each their own.

I'm agreeing with you. My initial reply to ShaneU was saying the same thing without the stats. Before this then shifted into (valid) reasons to captain Ibra. Which is effectively changing the subject.

My only argument was that you can't say Giroud was a factor given the performance and stats vs WBA.

Was considering Sanchez for those reasons myself - although perhaps with the score at 0-0 for eighty plus mins it meant Sanchez may have taken more shots than normal.

However in this case I'm going with the more basic Ibra is in great FPL form approach. If Pards was still in charge at Palace you would fancy goals but who knows what kind of defensive magic dust Big Sam will have sprinkled on the Palace back line already.

Foster was outstanding in goal for WBA in that match too. Sanchez is a very viable captain choice this gameweek. Costa, Hazard and Ibra too. Ibra will be highly captained and understandably so given his form and on the back of a big haul, but that said Boro might not be easy to break down as they've proved against other big teams this season. I don't have Ibra so he's not a choice :P But i do have Sanchez, Costa and Hazard and i have the armband on Sanchez at the moment. He's absolutely the main man for Arsenal this season and i believe Palace are their for the taking

Anyone slightly worried Sanchez or Zlatan could start on the bench? Might go with Hazard because of this

No chance, there's cup games coming up and they'll probably be rested for those.

ibra has to start, rooney is an injured turkey and martial is having so much white meat his head is not in the game at all this season, no other option

I'd hardly say "no chance" when united play twice in 50 hours and Boro is a game he might feel he can win without Ibra but have on bench just incase needed.

I think Rashford is a pretty decent "other option"

With the top 6 being so competitive I'd be shocked to see anything other than pretty much first 11's for the foreseeable future.

I think the key players, in each team, start every game until top 4 is locked in.

So who do we captain :D
I know all the guys around me will go Ibra again ........I've gained ground so I should go safe I guess but I think Sanchez is a better option
    Or I did
Until I remembered Big Sam and how much he loves to annoy wenger

Not taking the chance now anyway

    Tempted by hazard now

    Big Sam focused on defence.

    Middlesbrough doing well defensively.

Liverpool are Jekyll and Hyde so Kun could be an option.

But Stoke conceded 9 in their last 4 games.

    Captain Costa for me.

    Hazard has pens though
And an extra point per goal
    And the clean sheet point
    :D

    I'm talking myself into it

Boro isn't the easiest team to score against and I read Ibra has been involved in all of United's last 7 goals. If you watch the games, he looks as fit as a 20 year old. It would be madness to drop him in his current form but I expect him to be substituted if the game is wrapped up with 20-30 minutes to go.

I expect him to start too, but there is a small possibility he won't which is why I was disagreeing with the "no chance" comment or that united have no other options. They do, and a very good one in Rashford.
I think it's more likely that he'll start and if united are 2up he'll be subbed.
He has been looking very fit but even when united played europa league on a Thursday they didn't play again until Sunday. That's 2 matches in 4 days.
This is 2 in 3 days. As I said, I expect him to start but wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't.

Chelsea have from sat to weds to rest as well
    Forgot that
    Hazard for me now

Ibra/Sanchez are likely to be subbed after 60/70 if they are 2 up

Of course they may have scored both !

Sanchez. Palace going to be playing a 4th choice CB and he was so unlucky last match

Boro play the early game on Jan 2 at home to Leicester. So probably a fair chance they will play a weakened team at old Trafford and target the Leicester game.

    A valid point
And back to Ibra I go
Looking at the various polls and knowing how the guys in my league will go it's prob the sensible move

Jose presser at 2. Mutv is free at the moment if you have sky sports so I'll be watching this keenly.
Could still be swayed by Ibra.

My gut feeling is to go with a rested Costa against a leaky Stoke.
My head says that if the bulk of the forum captains Ibra then I need to go that way too.
    Undecided.
