    Seriously im desperate.

Then buy a knackered yaris. M3 for a starter car will cost more than your parents mortgage, if you even get quoted.

Ask your insurer, but prepare for bad news.

Everything has a price........this will just be the most priciest price in the history of prices.

So realistically, no, it's not going to happen

It does happen in other countries, you see teenagers driving big powerful cars but will not happen in Ireland, we have a problem with insurance here for whatever reason.

Best bet is to wait until you get the driving other cars extension on your own policy then you could drive it, as far as I know it covers any car.

Also, does your dad know you are planning to drive his m3? Having driven one a few times, I wouldn't let a teenager of mine near one or anyone I thought would mess in one.

I wouldn't be too keen on them driving my 525i and that's not even in the same league

Never had my hopes up anyway so all is good, Just a shame that you have to be like over 35 or somethin to drive one.

Love these threads! Is spelling no longer taught in schools?

OP, try asking his Insurance company. They are the only ones that can answer your question.

Best bet to be able to drive it is to get fully comp in your own name on something else and see if you can get cover to drive other peoples cars with that. Problem even with that is in most cases it's going to be 3rd party (AA offer comp if you are also an AA member) and I think a lot of them restrict the engine size of the car you can drive.

cheers, but i think il drop it because it will be pointless.

Love these threads!Bad grammar, should have a pronoun Is spelling no longer taught in schools?

OP, try asking his InsuranceInsurance unnecessarily capitalised company. They areThe common convention would be to use the contraction They're the only ones that can answer your question.

I hate people unnecessarily correcting people's spelling and grammar.

This thread is a waste of time everyone including the poster knows the answer, not a hope in hell, it's called "fronting" you may as well save yourself the phone bill and print off your own insurance cert off tinternet.
My advice buy a good pair of shoes

Take it for a spirited hoon somewhere on a wet day and see how you get on. If you survive this test they really should insure you.

How is it fronting if it's actually the fathers car and he would be the main driver? That's pretty much the exact opposite of fronting.

Fronting is the practice of an older person insuring a car in their name for the primary use of the younger driver.

You'd also kill yourself in one.

Pretty much zero driving experience. You'd be really dumb to drive one, and it would be absolutely wreckless on your parents part.

Mature stuff. You know your argument is rubbish when you resort to childish crap like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,577 ✭✭✭✭MEGA BRO WOLF 5000

My own insurance were trying to convince me my own e46 2.0 diesel was a "high performance car" when I got my last renewal.

I'm 33...My insurance is still over 2k with more NCB than the OP.

The insurance company are gonna lol hard at you.

Good Thread.:D Because Insurance is a statutory requirement ,it should be possible for the car to be insured ?I'm sure the mandatory quote would be horrific thou.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 giogvelesiani

hugh, i just got quoted on a 2.0tdi a6 2006, axa said 3200. Earlier i was simply asking if i could drive my fathers m3 as a named driver, just a thought, no need to start tripping about it, relax :DDD

You should throw up a few pics of the M3 while we have the thread

Like to say hi to evrryone, Ive been reading a lot on these forums and evryones answers have been helpfull but now I came to a bit of a complicated situation. Im 19 and have a full drivers license. My question is if I get insured as a named driver on my parents car will I be able to drive it as my father owns an e46 M3 03reg. Just wondering if il be able to or will the insurance company not allow me vecause of my age. Logically it should be aloud as its my parents car but since its an M3 I wonder if i will be able?
    Thanks in advance to everyone:)))))
I don't see any problem here at all. Happy driving.

Giorgi Baindurashvili, thats my fb, where you can clearly see me taking part in races and drifting with my fathers M3 for those of you who say "I cant handle it" hahah

Can't see that as being of any benefit tbh Giorgi.

Its just for those who say its too much power for me, nothing got to do with insurance, i just dont like people making false accusations about my driving.

What are you insured on to drive publicly at the minute OP?
I'd say shop around but it's likely to be at least 4 digits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,903 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

andy my skoda fabia 1.4 with 50 bhp is 4 ****ing digits to insure

think im just gonna buy an m3 for myself back home where I can easily get insured, but for Ireland il get a small 1.4L to get to college with.

Young man, i have no doubt you have faster reaction time and could possibly be a far better driver than an old codger like myself, but i can assure you that a lack of experience and a fast motor are a bad combination and i can tell you that from a youth partially wasted trying to find farmers at all hours of the morning to pull me out of the ditch. Find a sensible car for yourself.

    Safe driving, my friend! :)
