I know someone who was refused so definitely not - just seems to be the one interview? I would love to have an idea of numbers that applied etc.

Ya interview this month. I was expecting apptitude tests first? Any advice on what to expect or how to prepare? Expanding on examples of competencies etc

I've no real advice unfortunately!! Haven't even began looking at it yet. I've little experience with these things. I would assume there's no tests or anything. They would come before an interview I suspect!!

I think, from other competitions, the general feeling is to have two examples for each competence. So expand on the one you have but be prepared for them querying other experience in the same area. I think there are a load of AO threads on here - be a similar process I imagine so I would check those threads out. I will be at least!! That'll be my first point of preparation anyways. I really wish Christmas didn't fly in!!

    Hi
Any advice on what type of format the interview will take?

The board looks very daunting or is this normally the make up of these types of interviews?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 suzieros

Hi, I had interview yest and found it tough but fair. It was very direct, no room for waffle. The Board are conscious of time and have timers in front of them.
Overall, its very hard to know how it went. I felt I got caught for time setting the scene of a couple of examples, which they dont care about... Instead of jumping to what I actually did. But its all experience and Ill know what to expect in future.

In terms of format, they have your application form in front of them and will take a competency or two each and ask you questions around it.

Did they ask around Revenue or CAG? Or did they stay within the application form? Did you interview last long? Hopefully you have done enough :)

Very broadly asked around them, nothing specific. Lasted 45-50mins, but it didn't seem that long at all.

Had mine today, delighted to have it over wit. Like the previous poster, it was tough but fair. Focused on the form but they did ask for other examples so I was put on the spot a lot but hopefully answered enough! 45-50mins. Five people there - the PAS man is a gent, introduces you and puts you at ease. The other four interviewing then was more than I was accustomed to but I thought they were very nice.

I wish we had an indication of numbers or when it finishes up. Hard to be patient in these situations!!

I had mine on Friday - tough but fair - would love to change one or two answers! But I suppose every interview is like that! Does anyone know when they are finished holding interviews? Or when we are likely to hear back??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 SonicHook

Anyone any news on this? Cracking up here although I know I need to be patient.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭littlelady81

I rang them this morning - they finished interviews last Friday and will notify the end of this week or early next week! :)...hard to be waiting though :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 SonicHook

Thanks. I imagine that means late next week so!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 Superhoops86

I rang on Monday evening and was told the results would be out in the next few days.
The suspense is killing me. Has anyone else been told anything different??

I am the same! Just refreshing everything like mad, it's so frustrating waiting!

I was told it would be Monday 20th but I would hope it's earlier. That was last week when I checked. I don't think there were too many applicants. I wonder how many they will panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 Superhoops86

Hoping that it will be before the weekend, did you hear how many were interviewed?

I'm coming from private sector so the panel situation is all new to me.

Less than 100 as far as I know!

The panels are baffling even when you're in the midst of it so I think we're all confused! 😂

oh right i thought it would of been a lot more. They did say to me that anyone who passed the interview would make the panel. But i suppose they will score the interview to a level that would suit the size of the panel that they want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭thelostboys23

Not confident of making the panel as interview was not great but the waiting game is still a pain.

Hopefully results are issued before the weekend anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 SonicHook

I'm told middle of this week now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 Superhoops86

Has anyone else got back on to PAS this week??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭littlelady81

I rang yesterday - they are waiting on confirmation of all the vacancies - the departments are slow coming back.....but panel should be issued this week...I should have asked was the panel completed .....love the waiting games!

    same...nothing here either...

Haha the wait goes on, a bit messy, I heard that for another recent competition the responses came in dribs and drabs and the order they were received was not indicative of the placing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 suzieros

Hi guys, can anyone explain how the overall order of merit is used and then the regional placing? Thanks a lot

You should get your placing for the two locations you put down for e.g. county x No. 4 and county y No. 4. That was the case for me. The overall order of merit is where you came overall on total number of candidates interviewed

Anyone here the person who came first in Waterford? I know someone who came 4th in Ireland but second for Waterford.

    What are the odds. Geez

What does the interdepartmental and Irish stream rating mean? Got 13 interdepartmental and 6 Irish stream?? Many go it I wonder?? It's hard to judge how u did without knowing the total figure that applied

So if your overall order of merit is 20, then 19 people have to get offered job before you? And then it depends on region so they look at that score?

That's right. Know what interdepartmental/Irish stream rating relates to?

Thanks can you clarify the order of merit for me. Let's say I'm 40 overall and 20 in the regional what's my chances of a Dublin position?? Is there 19 ahead of me or 39??

Surely more than that made the panel? I mean I got 7th in Kerry. I don't think that out of a total of 55 at least 7 applied for a role in Kerry... surely not!

I find it amazing that an AO has to sit on a panel and not have their position converted to HEO while continuing to the work of a HEO at 60 percent of their pay.

    Farcical

That's exactly my situation too. I suspect quite a few are in this position.

I believe I have to hope a vacancy arises that I can qualify for to be promoted in situ, despite the fact I don't necessarily need a vacancy as I actually want to stay in my job.

    Who knows!!

Maybe you should ring PAS tomorrow as nothing as reliable as information first hand. Kerry is obviously more popular than you think!

Does anyone know how many made the panel for cork? Are majority of the jobs in Dublin?

At the end of each persons letter does it say "we will be in contact soon over a position" or is it more vague. I am hearing there is a difference

Mine is 'if a vacancy arises...'
