2016 - a year in review

Last year I posted in this thread about my goals for 2016.

    Quoting my post for reference:

    - Cycle more: I don't know how many km I'm hoping to cover but I'll aim for maybe 2,500 and reassess during the year.
    - Get weight loss back on track
    - Do more fun things
    - Make a decision about my future
    - Learn how to run
    - Do a triathalon
    - Avoid hospitals
    - Save
    - Go on two city breaks

Cycled just over 3,000 km. (1)
More or less the exact same weight as 1st January. (0)
    Did some fun things. (0.5)
No decision made on future. (0)
    Can semi run. (0.5)
    Did a triathlon. (1)
    Ended up in hospital. (0)
    Managed to save! (1)
    Haven't left the country. (0)

Out of 9 tasks... 4/9. Not too bad. Could be better.

2016 was interesting. Some highs, some lows. Had a few epiphanies. Made some good decisions. Made some awful decisions. Learned from my mistakes. Mostly. Nothing too strange or startling to report. Made some great friends. Reconnected with old friends. Was reminded of the strength of humans. Both positively and negatively. Trump and Brexit being the main negatives.

Overall, enjoyed the year. I'd give it a solid 7/10.

Now. 2017. The year of the rooster apparently. I don't even like potatoes.

    So what are my goals?
    - cycle when I want, where I want, and do one big hill
    - Olympic triathlon
    - job security (I've reached a crossroads)
    - be accountable
    - live by the "Everybodies Free to Wear Sunscreen" life rules
    - push myself
    - retain contentment
    - the usual weightloss goal that will never be achieved because cheese exists in my life

Anyone else fancy doing their year in review?

I don't usually make New Years resolutions and 2016 was no different. However, we had just starting trying for a baby and I thought/hoped that this Christmas we'd spend it with a little baby or at least one on the way. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. In May I found out I had PCOS and have spent the last 7 months getting fertility treatment which is not fun. Really looking forward to the end of 2016 and here's to hoping 2017 is better.

Im a little confused - you did a triathlon but can only "semi-run"?

How did you manage a Triathlon?

Because it was a very slow 4km run. My speed for a 5km is the same that most people would do a 10km. I can run, but not very well.

I can't remember what my goals were, but I did what I wanted to do over all -

    Lost 3.5 stone.
    Went on holiday.
    Went back to college.
    Got a new job.
    Changed my hair drastically.
Improved relations with a sister I didn't get along with.
Got my mental health completely stabilised.

    Goals for 2017:

Lose another 3 stone to bring me to my target weight.
    Learn to cycle.
    Start running.
Save money for some necessary medical treatment to enable me to run and cycle.
    Get promoted.

    Goals for 2016 were:

    Save to buy a house.
    Lose weight.
Cut back on alcohol and coffee
    Trip to Iceland and Florence

Have put on weight rather than lose it. Have been making excuses for not exercising enough this year which won't cut it next year. Plus the comfort eating has to stop. Cutting back on alcohol and coffee was also a fail. I have digestive problems which flair up on consumption of both so really need to tackle this next year. Travelled to both aforementioned destinations which I really enjoyed (although I will avoid Italy in July again at all costs!). And saving is on track.

    2017

Apply for a mortgage in January - this is the big one. Given the craziness of the current market finding something that ticks at least some of the boxes will be a challenge.

Less social media/online browsing, more activities. Perhaps hill walking and make the effort to see more theatre.

Do well in my new position at work. It will be a learning curve for sure but I'm up for the challenge.

Improve diet/fitness , basically what I should have tackled this year.
