Drove through toll barrier without paying

Dunno if this is the right place to ask but anyway.
Coming through the Limerick tunnel this evening i was going to a coin box lane.
When I got there the barrier was on the way up and went up fully, I was stopping to put the money in, I was watching the barrier and it wasn't coming back down so i got a fit and decided to go through it.

About 2 seconds later I thought "you idiot" , but I couldn't stop in case the barrier came down on the car , and there were a couple of cars behind me so I said f*ck it and kept going to the sound of a big ass siren going off.

Anybody know what the story is now,
Are there cameras there , will I be getting a call from the boys in blue, or a brown envelope in the door.

I presume they have cameras and can check the reg.
But also if the barrier isn't down am I free to travel through?

You had a green light to go, it was safe to do so, you proceeded so as to not delay traffic behind you.

    This too shall pass.

Are toll booth operators considered a private company ?

There was no green light, it was red. :-D
Yea I might just ring them, see what happens.

Don't worry about it. Our glorious government signed up to an agreement with the private toll company to guarantee them x amount in revenue based on x number of vehicles using the toll per year and the tax payer will cover any shortfall in that respect so technically you will be paying anyway.

Friend tailed me through the one on the m8 and heard nothing, barrier took an awful wollop (car had a soft top so was grand). Happened due to us having just collected his new car and he wasn't aware the toll tag is registered to an individual car!

Something similar has happened me a few times on the Limerick tunnel, N18 southbound, in the 4th lane (rightmost coin only lane) I'll approach the barrier and suddenly the barrier just goes up before I come to a stop and I carry on through, no sirens though, free toll, happy days. Happened me four times this year that I can recall, never been chased up on it.

Just rang them there and the lady said don't worry about it,
It's there fault if the barrier goes up so they don't do anything about that.

It's funny though, your terminology "So I got a fit and drove through it" . If there was an honesty box for bottles of water you'd pay, but an open barrier and the thought of getting away with it.... *sound of squealing tyres - blue smoke... :pac:

    Yea a fit,
As in "the barrier is open drive through".... then **** " i shouldn't have done that...stop.........oh no the barrier will come down on the car............sirens............run........ i'll deal with it tomorrow......... idiot...."

    :D

Does anyone know how close one car has to be to the one in front of it to get through the drive through tag lanes on the tag of the car infront on the motorway tolls ?

Actually: it doesn't matter. The motorway booths don't match plates to the tag. I know, as I have 3 cars and 2 tags.....

And, on a motorbike once, a tag I had in a bag, in a topbox that I'd forgotten about was enough for Booth Lady to say carry on......I'd deregistered the tag about 2 years previously. ...nobody told the tag though! 40 minutes later on return leg, same again.
