it's not really that sensational, she's played before and regularly plays in Ireland...

    sorry :pac:

it's a great booking though, off to a good start anyway!

presume she'll have a few acts from Trip Recordings like Bjarki on her stage.

I'm a bit slow here, I didn't realise two other names were added, Eats Everything and Recondite.

I must say announcing acts one by one every week or so is very underwhelming. I think the event is being marketed poorly enough.

Also had the situation where Life posted online that an announcement would be made yesterday, and no word of anything til today. I know it's only small things, but it's not reflecting well on them IMO.

Line up is looking great so far. Anyone know if it ever sells out? Won't be able to buy tickets for another few months.

Rudimental, Patrick Topping, Alan Fitzpatrick, Bjarki, Paula Temple, The Magician, Format B, Goldie, Jay Clarke, Veronica Vasicka, Monki, Cleric, Anetha, DeFeKT and Phil Kieran just announced. Great stuff.

I have probably lost a bit of interest in dance music over the past year or two but I feel as if Life is definitely aimed towards a younger crowd now. Rudimental, Patrick Topping, Alan Fitzpatrick, The Magician, Duke Dumont, Nina Kraviz, DJ EZ.. Feels like a young lads dream! Maybe it's just a sign I'm getting older really, that line up would not appeal to me at all. Am I alone or have Life changed their plan of attack and started booking acts more so aimed at a younger crowd? There seems to be plenty of interest in it on facebook so maybe it's working for them!

I'd be one of the younger lads ha. Acts I'm most excited about are Nina Kraviz, Topping, Eats Everything, Bjarki, Fitzpatrick. No interest in Duke Dumont even thought he had generated interest on Facebook it seems.

From any boardsies previous 'Life' experiences, is the majority of the crowd at it really young or is there a good mix?

pretty young these days. majority would be late teens-mid 20s.

A review I done of the one in 2015, just to give newcomers an idea of what the festival is like and the range of music on offer. I was part of the site crew so was down for most of the week.

Life have said on Facebook that their third tier of tickets are flying and will be sold out by midnight tonight.
Does that mean all tickets will be sold out or will they add another tier?

    Four additions to Life festival.

All in all though, I think I'd be fairly underwhelmed with the line-up if Nina Kraviz wasn't there.

    Personal opinion of course

The Rootical Soundsystem stage is back, that's an improvement, jeez might go now.

Ejeca's played a load recently, he's doing that Mass festival (whatever that is) and recently played Higher Vision. He played a mental heavy set as well, properly knocked the air out of my lungs when the bass came out of the speakers!

I'm connected to the LIFE whatsapp account too, and they tend to send a message every so often. For example they announced their acts on it. Got another one today and started counting... their last ten messages (over a space of almost 2 months) have all been solely pushing ticket sales by saying that the final tier are nearly sold out.

I said it in an earlier post in this thread but the marketing of this event has been very poor IMO. They aren't doing much at all to generate excitement. IMO telling people for 2 months that "final tickets are nearly gone" is not going to entice them to go and buy a ticket. People need to be reminded of the acts there, and as I said they need to attempt to generate a buzz and a bit of excitement instead of basically saying the same message for the last 2 months: "hey lads tickets are going fast so buy one before there gone".

I'm not saying it's not going to be a good festival, but I think the marketing and advertising has been very amateur from the beginning this year.

Announcing the line up bit by bit is an awful way of doing it. Look at EP & Longitude, they announce a batch of 25 acts or so and have a poster and lots of hype building up to the launch - they have both sold out instantly (just Sat for the latter). I am in a few group chats/whatsapps etc with people who would be very interested in going to festivals and almost every festival announcement was posted in these groups when the line ups came out, generating a bit of a buzz - this was not the case for Life however. I couldn't even tell you many acts that are on the line up this year or if the full line up is out.

"A quick heads up that we have seen a massive surge in sales of our final tier tickets in the last 24 hours".

Grab yours to avoid missing the start of the summer!

Literally just got this message from LIFE again today. Actually laughed thinking about the post I made about it.

Almost identical message again today. They mentioned a few acts today though fair play.

Anyone know if there is a campervan site? Or if not if you can stay in the car park? Is it very far from the parking to the main festival? I have not been since it moved up the country (showing my age) What are the campsites like in general? I have tried contacting the festival but no joy.

There seems to be no indications that its selling out anyway so you should be OK. Incidentally some of the old heads are complaining that there is no psytrance stage this year. Now this wouldn't be my top form of music, but since I have been going from 2008 onward Neutronyx has always been involved with that side of the festival and was always considered one of the main stages, I can't imagine Life without psytrance and reggae which had a lot more importance back in 2008 with the likes of Max Romeo, Finlay Quaye, Sphongle headlining. It seems to have become a generic house and techno festival although there is some good acts still.

Last time I was there in 2012 I don't remember it being too young - was a good mix I thought. Did get that "aw yeah there's a Garda" from a scobe though, which was pretty laughable.

Long range weather forecast in, she looks decent. Low chance of rain and highs of 21-23. Although at this stage things could change but it's looking promising.

While they may enforce the only on first run rule regarding alcohol, I wouldn't worry about them enforcing the quantity. I've been to 10+ festivals, most say that in terms and conditions or whatever. Never once it enforced at life or elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭Daledge

For anyone that's been there before, what's the campsite like? Is it rough at all and do people actually sleep or does it go on all night?

It's my first festival and I'm just wondering if I should be worried and be on my guard.

This was the reviews I got from the Life Facebook page.

'Anyone need a lift up from Limerick direction?'

'Any one travelling up from cork?will pay for petrol.' :D:D:D

No one seems to be talking about it at all, give it a day or two.

I ended up wandering up on the Saturday night, wasn't much on that interested me but got a free ticket so why not. Definitely a different crowd go to Life than most other festivals in the country, didn't see anything rough happening but more scauldies than your average festival and 90% of the crowd is in their late teens/early 20s, even most of the DJs.

Saw Ricardo Villalobos who was okay but nothing special IMO, DJ Deece followed who played a good set for the time of day it was. They were both moved inside to the D8 stage as it was raining consistently at this point. Spent most of the day wandering around then once the rain stopped, saw two guys who on the main stage who I thought were brutal, also saw Dixon for a little while who was okay but didn't hang around for long. Went down to the Toast stage then for the rest of the night and had great craic, it was the only stage people were dancing with a smile on their face! Stayed there until around 4.30 before clocking out for the night. Quite busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, never any big queues at the bar or to get into the arena, they have changed the site around a lot since I was there last, much improved I thought. Could have done with more toilets in the campsite. I probably wouldn't go again but I don't think I am the target market either!
