Looking forward to this one, big unification fight between the two best in the division , I fancy jack to get it done here hes been looking good.

He was robbed the W against bute earlier this year and had a great scrap with groves and deservedly got the decsion.

Chunky is a slick puncher but he fades late on I see jack nicking it on close points decision.

DeGale takes a clear decision win.

It will need to be clear in order for him to win because if its anyway close he the judges will favour jack. Degales good but he wont coast this one like he has other fights.

That's a little unfair. He did a little more than coasting in some recent fights.

DeGale is turning out to be a decent enough champion. Although the way he takes his foot of the pedal in the mid to late rounds is always going to be a concern. Jack is a reasonably good opponent so it will make for a good match.

DeGale really needs to avenge that Groves loss I reckon. I'd say he wants to...

Having seen both of them last time out I feel Jack will persevere but if DeGale is awake for the 12 rounds he could do it.

I dont think Jack was robbed against Bute but it was controversial.

    Thinking about going to this............

If, and that's a big 'IF', deGale maintains his concentration for the duration of the fight, I would expect him to win, but he just never seems to do that, which is what makes this a fascinating fight.

I fancy DeGale to nick it I think but its a great fight. Jack is one of the most underrated fighters going imo.

Pedraza v Davis on the undercard should be really good too. Gervonta Davis is Floyd's favourite prospect that he has on his books. Massive step up for him.

Have you seen much of Davis, if so what do you think about him? I watched one of his fights recently and thought he needed more experience. He was a bit too eager to knock his opponent out.

Seen him twice on the Broner-Theopane and Bey-Barthelemy undercards. The latter was over in 30 seconds though. Looked raw and definitely too eager for the KO in the first one but do think he has legit power. He has a reputation for being a bit of a freak power puncher and has definitely backed that up so far.

Seems a crazy step up on paper though going from fighting a load of unknown Mexicans to Pedraza at 22 years old. Pedraza should win you'd think but if Davis' power is as legit as expected it could get very interesting.

Degale is a lot of fun to watch and immensely talented but he does seem to switch off at points in fights and lets the opponent back into the fight and gives away rounds here and there. Jack is solid, if unspectacular. I am expecting a hard fought close decision win for Degale in a fight where he takes an early lead but Jack comes back into it late.
    Looking forward to it.

DeGale comfortably on points, looking forward to it.

God Sky really are awful in terms of boxing coverage, they don't give a toss about what happens in the sport if a British fighter isn't involved.

Was reading an article on the sky sports app about the weigh in for this and they referred to Jack as American. That's just sheer laziness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,324 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

Really? He's only in the states about 5 or 6 years isn't he!

    Its actually incompetence

Yep, it's still there too. Thought they might have amended it by now.

Yeah he's there a few years for sure, maybe he has citizenship but I certainly wouldn't have referred to him as American and I doubt he'd refer to himself as such either!

Jack on points just I'd say

Have a feeling DeGale is going to destroy Jack.

I don't see any way Jack wins this fight.

Is there anything decent in the undercard?
Can I watch it anywhere? Is main event start at 2 or undercard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,299 ✭✭✭phobia2011

Any idea what time we can expect main event to start?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

Wouldn't surprise me if it was controversial. Jack is solid and steady whereas DeGale is flashy but fights in spurts.

    Davis looking the goods early.

Fight definitely gets interesting the further it goes on. Davis never done 12 and is fighting with a high output early.

Davis looked special there, At 22 the kid could be a real star for the future.

Davis is going to be a superstar. So impressive.

Khytrov just got found out which I personally thought was going to be a matter of time. Anyone know what price Aleem was for the win?

Took 9/2 on Aleem on ladbrokes

I don't think Degales should have got anything out of that myself.

A draw was a fair result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,106 ✭✭✭selectamatic

Nightmare fight to call a lot of shots hitting shoulders and gloves. Draw was fair enough tbh.

Mayweather could do with getting a slap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,324 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

Fantastic fight, really enjoyed it and I think a draw is fair.

Does Mayweather have to stink up the place everytime he gets involved? Jeez

I dunno, if the money is right maybe but I don't think we get a rematch there at 168, Jack looked so distraught at the end.

    Jeez Mayweather is boring

Calling it a robbery, lol as if he is a saint

    Draw was fair

    Floyd is an awful spanner.

Just watched it on replay. 1st off what a fight to start 2017. I had Jack winning by 1 round with the knockdown in the 12th swinging it Jack's way. Be great if they did it again but the vibes from the Jack Camp would indicate he is off to LHW.

Note to self: STFU with my stupid predictions.

Thought DeGale was excellent for the most part, Jack looked HUGE though. No surprise they're on about LHW next. Draw a fair result imo and hopefully JDG gets the credit he deserves. He's a top-class guy and showed loads of heart to come back from the knockdown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

Not sure why people were expecting DeGale to run through him. Jack is solid as a rock and is a clean hard puncher. DeGale needs to take breaks. Was all set up for a close fight.

Very good fight, I very much enjoyed it. Two lads that went out and tried to win rather than just stick around and hope for point's.

They really have to sort out the post fight stuff. Boxings image problem isn't helped when there are lads trying to negotiate a fight in the middle of a ring after a fight. It was like something out of one of those halting site fights. And then Mr Mayweather arrived with his usual Fois Gras and Chicken Nuggets attitude to bring class to the proceedings.

I had Jack winning it by two rounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,283 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Mayweather should leave the post fight interviews. It's painful and embarrassing.

Great fight, draw probably the fairest result hard to pick a winner. Degale showed great bottle to survive in the 12th really looked like he was in big trouble.

Jack going to 175 according to both Floyd and himself. Say they want Adonis next.

Negotiating position or legit? Apparently Jack has been struggling with the weight for a while. Adonis though? Don't know how winnable that it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,324 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

Jack looked very big, his post fight demenour and body language indicated he is pretty much done trying to get down to 168.

I like him. I agree he's unspectacular but I like that resilience and consistency. Is he with Heredia though? If so that would cast a shadow over everything for me.

I'm trying to understand why Degale doesn't tie up his opponents alot more, he'd conserve more energy. Maybe years of neglecting strength and conditioning has something to do with it? At times he has a tendency to let his combinations go but then walk backwards as to invite his opponent on, I just can't comprehend it.

Yeah it's strange. Such an obvious fix to a lot of his problems but he never does it.

It kinda comes across as harsh but I agree with you. There's nothing really that stands out, as someone mentioned previously he's just solid. One area that was really impressive the other night was his ability to catch shots and counter. From a judging point of view, it was really eye catching.

No doubt he is talented and effective, but just nothing. At least DeGale has a little bit of style and substance about him. A swagger and movement.

Anyone else think DeGale punches very strangely? Not a slap, but a downward type of punch that looks as if he is punching with his fingers....
