Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    I'm brewing about 8-9 years. Started on a Mr Beer. then onto Coopers>extract>AG>extract>3KG kits> Extract> AG >extract>.................. then for the crack my first kit and kilo
    (as work/kids/time allows)

    made Tom Caxton Yorkshire bitter. with 1kg of household sugar from Aldi.

    bottled 2 months ago i'd say. tried one there its not bad but its watery and light.
    No hops what so ever even tough it has a hop sachet thingy.

    kit cost 12.21 the sugar cost under a euro.

    brewed to 36 pint level

    result = way better off add a kg of brewing sugar for 1.95 or a klio of malt extract

    still nothing wrong with it but missing any backbone. you could dry hop it but it wouldn't have the body to carry it

    over all id say 5/10 ( means drinkable) i'd imagine if you made same kit with malt extract it would be a 7.

    Oddly enough I made the exact same one a few days ago. I went to my supplies thinking I had malt extract and/or brewing sugar. Turns out I had neither :rolleyes: so had to make do with ordinary sugar. Been a while since I've made a kit with standard sugar so looking forward to the underwhelming Christmas brew :P

    On a second tasting I have to downgrade it to a 2/10 only fit for the sinkhole. Not poisonous but zero taste body flavour ...all it was was cold and wet muck water. It's now gone ... down the jax ...first brew I bowled. There's been other bad uns they were over malty got mixed with overly hoppy brews to meet an ok balance or vice versa. This was so thin you have nothing to work with it even looks wrong . For 3 or 4 euro more you would have 35 pints of above/average ale
