I'm partial to estates, but that's really good looking.

    me too,
The back drops down fairly low so the actual hatch opening is prob quite small.
Boggles the mind why they do that.

    Also nice rims!

Nicest estate on the market imo. Gorgeous car.

Front on looks remarkably like the current generation mazda 6

Looks fantastic. A hint of Mazda 6 off the front.

Looks a clone for the 2018 Holden Commadore

My first thought was Merc when I seen pics but I like it, especially the estate/tourer/

    See pics of saloon/hatch here

No surprise there since its all GM owned

The estate definitely looks better than the saloon linked above. The saloon reminds me of the previous gen Skoda Superb with the little stubby back. The 3 boxes on the Insignia don't have that good a proportion.

Hmmm it's nice though but is nowhere near as fresh looking as it needs to be to be still selling in 5 years time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Its definitely a mix of what's out there at the moment. Grown a good bit in size too compared to the current 9 year old model.

I notice Opel (GM) still not moving the side indicators from the wings to the door mirrors. I thought there was some EU directive around that with new models in order to improve signal visibility? Nearly everyone else has done it for years now. Maybe the EU spec ones will?

Great point, by the time it's launched the Passat will be due a facelift you'd expect.

The current SE 2.0 CDTi 163bhp A/T Insignia retails at €36K, a 2.0 DSG Highline Passat is €38k........ I wonder will Opel keep prices down on the new Insignia. In the current low interest PCP deals the actual list price isn't the clincher anymore either I suppose.

The insignia has always been a great looking car. I'm thinking of picking a 2009 insignia for myself in the new year.

Im due a new one as company car in October next yr, saloon model. I have 14 one at the moment good enough car but electrics are poor, bluetooth only works intermittanty, main dealer could not fix it had to get Parrot kit

The roofline towards the back makes it look like it has some kinda mullet going on. I don't think Claudia will be promoting this one!

Beautiful car and its certainly big. I think from the front side view it looks like a lot of the current Volvos and kinda a bit of Volvo and Mazda at the front.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Kind of want to like this, it is a smart design but I can't see one original design feature anywhere on it.

You'll see only after you buy it, when it bursts into flames. Opel/Vauxhall need to trademark that sh!t :pac:

When are they due for release ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,792 ✭✭✭Ded_Zebra

Dare I say not as nice looking as the first gen. Particularly the facelift really picked up the old model.

I guess Opel will be doing great deals on the old runout cars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

They have been for a while now, there are over 90 2016 models for sale on carzone. I'd say you would get a good discount on a 171 old model but you will take a fair hit come resale time given how long that model has been on sale and how cheap they are in the UK second hand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭bs2014

Mazda 6 from the front, Passat CC from behind and a touch of A7/4 series from the side. I think Opel are onto a winner, up to now I would have picked a Passat or Superb but on looks alone, I'm hands down sold. And the Navi system in the latest Astra is brilliant so if that is on the new insignia like the pics, it will be a great car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,088 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Great looking car in both guises, though I think the estate shades it. And I say that as someone who generally prefers saloons :)

i take it it's FWD, which is bad news if its also the new commodore...
so much for the standard 3.6 v6 rwd

    There's a 247 bhp 2 litre that's all wheel drive.

I've been showing the pictures to my father and he's liking it so far. I might persuade him to trade up to it :D Can't wait to take it for a test drive

I had an 09 insignia (bought in 2014). very comfortable car, but it did give me some serious issues, thankfully fixed under warranty. long story short, both engine and gearbox failed a few weeks after I got the car.
There was a recall on these models too, power steering pile could leak onto the exhaust and cause a fire. Make sure this has been fixed if you buy one, otherwise when you stop at lights, you will see smoke coming from the driver side wheel. this also happened me.

The new model does look nice, I really like the interior.

From what I've read, the Saloon is actually a Hatch - no Saloon model coming based on whatever article I was reading, but that might just apply to the UK, where they sometimes don't get Saloons we get over here.

That size Saloon isn't really selling here anyway - 95% of all Insignia's we supply are either Estate or Hatch.

I've been told it's Q3 launch and realistically 2018 deliveries.

Mondeo is the same, no saloon in the new model.

Not making a saloon in the new one. Hatchback was more popular in europe, Vauxhall dont offer the saloon version currently. Irish people just have a little obsession with the traditional boxed saloon.

    Smax v SmaxVignale = +8k , +13k ?
So an EdgeVignale could be pushing towards 80k maybe?

I've seen a couple of vignales around Limerick always being driven by ford sales guys....

Currently in a 162 estate version.
Guess ford must make them register them.

Will the autos have the gear selector indicator on the drivers side in the new models?.

What do people make of them now that they're on the ground? Have had a spin in a 1.6 cdti SRi and a 2ltr Elite model hatchbacks. Very impressed with them. 1.6 is not actually that bad I have the same engine in a Zafira and performance is just about ok and it weighs the guts of 1800kg! New insignia is a lot lighter and it felt a good bit faster. 2Ltr Elite really was very good and felt proper quick. Would love a drive in the 1.5 petrol, only the 140bhp is being offered here would much prefer the 165. Dealer was meant to have a demo estate in the next week or two but it's been delayed and will be July before he has it.

Got a very good deal last year on a 162 Zafira and I was only half joking asking what he'd allow me to trade to a 172. He's doing me a very good deal €2.8k cost to change for a 1.5 SRi estate or €4.8k for the elite. Nice bit of extra kit on Elite version leather and LED headlights which would make me tempted to go for it but the SRi has nicer alloys and more supportive seats which would add €1250 to the price of the elite to upgrade them. Sooner just add the LEDs to the SRi model I think.

I'm very tempted would prefer the the higher powered 165bhp version but even the 140 version is going to be much brisker than my zafira and economy shouldn't be much worse. I'm only getting 45-46mpg at the minute. I probably just about do enough mileage to justify diesel 20k km per year and mostly 20km or so each way trips. Much prefer petrol's to drive though and the 1.5 petrol is €4.5k cheaper than the 2 ltr diesel. 1.6 is not available in the estate and is still €3k dearer in the hatch. That pays for a lot of petrol.

Wife would much prefer me to stay with the 7 seater though. I do like it it's very comfortable and for it's size it actually handles pretty well. Sweeping bends are fine with little body roll, sharp turns or hairpins are a very different story it can''t hide it's bulk and height there. Priced coming up to the facelift Zafira but figures aren't as favourable €4k if I come down to an Sc spec or €6k to stay with an SE spec. Not really worth it. Having new touch screen for android auto would be nice but not at that cost. The extra seats are handy occasionally and even just using it as a 5 seater it is much better than any regular hatch or estate having a proper middle seat. Insignia is not going to be to bad as a 5 seater though as there is so much leg room. We can work around it but it will mean occasionally having to bring the two cars places.

Really would like to change to the new Insignia estate. Would be much happier with it the long term. But can't decide if it makes sense cost to change is good but am I better just living with the 7 seater for the next few years till we don't need it any more.

Will probably see a good few 172s Only a handfull of 171 regged as demos I'd say. My local dealer has 3 in stock but only one registered. Seems to very popular he said he has over 20 orders already for July.
