Anyone else really looking forward to Lebedev-Gassiev? SS5 on Saturday.

Big fan of Lebedev but I think age might catch up on him tomorrow. Hoping for a dominant performance though because I need a Usyk/Lebedev fight! Also fancy Vlasov to more than less retire Chakhiev to irrelevancy in the division. Keep an eye out for Troyanovsky too who is a bloody beast of a fighter. Nice little card.

That Saunders bill is garbage, main event is terrible and the undercard is equally bad, Butler, Catterall both in with nobodies. Lebadev fight is great in fact that entire bill could be good.

Hence Leisure Centre venue shocking really & embarrassing for Saunders.

Lebedev the boss for the first two rounds, but Gassiev beginning to up the pace and showing glimpses of what people are talking about.

Good fight, which could potentially get even better.

This is tasty. Lebedev looks huge in the back and shoulders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,356 ✭✭✭✭walshb

    Gassiev looking very strong..

Big round by Gassiev. Lebedev was really hurt, but did well to recover. Gassiev looks the business though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,356 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Gassiev is far from crude. Lovely punch technique and delivery.

Both are skilful boxers. I've found over the years, simply by virtue of the 'look' of Lebedev, people expect him to be a slugger, but he is a much more skilful operator than most believe.

    Lebedev is a brilliant boxer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,744 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Lebedev doing ok but Gassiev looks a monster, just walking forward no problem ripping in vicious body shots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,744 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

    How's anyone scoring this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Lebedev is just so brave. He is being hurt (I believe) fairly often, but he keeps plugging away.

If Gassive really poured it on for a round I think he'd finish it.

Gassiev is exactly what it says on his shorts. Iron. Not even flinching at Lebedev's shots. FIght very much turning in his favour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,356 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Lebedev probably landing more but the substantial shots are all Gassiev. I have Gassiev 5-3-1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Gassiev's shots are just so much more damaging, even though he's landing less.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Good 11th from Leb. I wonder if he wins the last how the scores will be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

    Great fight.

Win, lose or draw Lebedev is one of the bravest boxers I've ever seen.

Tight, though I didn't score it by the round I thought Gassiev nicked it.

Some fight that! Gassiev fairly lived up to the hype but my God that was some display of heart and will power by lebedev there's a man who doesn't want to give up his belts without a fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,356 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Deserved... no way Lebedev could get that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

My new wet dream fight is Usyk v Gassiev.

I'd fancy Usyk, but I'm certain it would be a great fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Chakhiev's balance is atrocious for a former Olympic champ.

Plus he has no chin. Bad combination.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

He already moved up in his last fight. Claiming the usual 'feel much stronger' 'was just training to take weight off before'. In fairness, I wasn't sure he has the size and Steve Willis also said the same but he reckons he has filled into the weight, so....

Billy Joe fight about to start. Not an easy guy to like, but he's a tough guy.

lol Tyson Fury holding up the belt in the ring for BJS. It's like something you would see in the WWE. I wonder is Andy Lee coming out to referee the fight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,928 ✭✭✭Morrison J

This is one of the worst cards I've ever seen.

Little between Saunders and Akavov so far. Get the impression Saunders took this a bit lightly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭PeterTheNinth

I've seen the interviews with Kugan and iFL and he seemed very casual and not in great shape. They say that he's cut weight a lot, and he's been out of the ring a while. BJS really struggling here. He's gonna lose this if things don't change.

Saunders would want to improve here. He's not looking too sharp, which would tally with the stories of bad preparation (split with Jimmy Tibbs).

I've already laid him at very low odds on Betfair.

    Shocking standard so far.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭PeterTheNinth

How do they have billy joe ahead. No way he's ahead.

Billy Joe has that same sluggish lethargic look that Andy Lee normally has.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

    My god this is awful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

BJS looks shattered in the corner.

I don't know much about boxing but yeah i'm surprised at that too.

Akavov seems to be in control and landing the better shots, I'd guess more of them too.

I think Saunders has pulled ahead in the last few rounds.

The betting markets think so also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Yeah BJS is in control now but still looks terrible.

He's lucky he didn't get that fight with GGG that he was looking for.

    :D

Commentary is all over the place... They said he was "clearly ahead", a round ago and now saying that "he really needs to show something here".

I think we'll get a home town decision though.

I think BJS just won it but my god he looked terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Scorecards fair enough there I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

I thought Saunders won a tight one.

At least he's honest enough to admit he was poor.

Very close fight - don't think he would last against Eubank Jnr if they have a rematch.

Don't think he can command the same deal - Saunders lost stock tonight.

Not a contener for a win against GGG or Canelo imo.

    Oh not another warren slimeball.

    Haha, was thinking the same.

His promoter didn't look too pleased with his honesty!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭PeterTheNinth

I dont understand how the commentator can say that he would have no issue with if they had given the fight to Akavov, yet the scorecards had him losing by three rounds and he's not commenting on the disparity between this and his previous comment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 842 ✭✭✭rebelomar

He needs to go back on his hands and knees to Tibbs!

In comparison to the guy who beat Lee and Eubank jnr, he wasn't half the fighter there tonight and as for the advice in the corner...it was laughable even to a novice like me.

That MGM mob's in house team couldn't train a dog to sit let alone a world class fighter imho.

I felt his post fight honesty was admirable however and it was a nice touch to bring that young lad into the ring.

Off topic I know but I hope to God Paddy Barnes goes elsewhere for his coaching needs...

Saunders should do a video to GGG now pleading for forgiveness. He would be murdered by GGG.
