You may have picked it up wrong! I have an RM Pro, its just a bridge to RF/IR.
It just learns RF/IR commands and you can then tell it to send the command (or series of commands using preconfigured scenes) via the App or Google home. You dont need any phone/tablet always powered on or anything, just need to use the app to set it up.

    Thanks for the clarification!

Would anyone be able suggest which might be the better option: the ~£38 Broadlink RM Pro or the (currently with Prime) ~£130 Harmony Elite?

A question in relation to Amazon Prime:

I signed up to Prime on the .co.uk site on Saturday. Then today, I was looking at Amazon.de and saw, what I thought, was a good deal on Philips Hue bulbs - a treble pack of e27's and e14's for €90 per pack.

    However, the .de site was encouraging me to sign up to Prime for the free 30 days.....which made me scratch my head;
    a. Maybe they've better deals than the €90 treble packs on Hue bulbs; but more importantly
ii. Does my Prime account only cover me on the site I signed up on??

Because I thought it was all the one Amazon, just with localised sites, rather than more like separate entities, just with the same name?

I believe that they are all separate entities. I have ordered stuff on Amazon de before and it never shows up on my co.uk account. Similarly stuff I've bought on co.uk doesn't show up on my de account

I haven’t a clue if this is actually a bargain, as I’m new to all this!

Argos has the TP-Link smart plug reduced to €21.99 at the moment.

It's been a pretty crap prime day for me, I've not found a single item that interests me. I already have my home full of home automation gear, Nvidia shield, ring doorbell, netatmo thermostat, hue lights, Logitech harmony remote, cameras etc. The only thing I might be tempted on is an additional Google home which will never be on offer on Amazon.

Much the same here, I think that is just the reality of those of us who already gotten a lot of HA kit. We've gotten most of the low hanging fruit already.

I got a lot of stuff for the family, but the only HA tech was two Yi cameras. Which I'll certainly use and I'm enjoying them, but I really didn't need it, just a very good price, so worth trying out.

Really I just need to focus on getting all the gear I already have fully setup and properly integrated. I still have bits and pieces working but not really integrated .

Future HA tech I buy I think may well be more pricey stuff, automated blinds/curtains, etc. Maybe Hue switches when they come out. But overall I'm pretty happy with what I've got.

It was crap because you already owned everything you need? You're going to have to wait until they invent some new tech :D
I'm only dipping my toe into this area so it was pretty good for me. Managed to pick up a Philips Hue hub and x4 of the normal bulbs for about €50. I don't see the need to replace all my bulbs with them (yet...) so they're going in a few strategic places in the house and I've some of the cheap Ikea Smart GU10s to bulk it out a bit. The only thing I think I might currently miss is the dimmer switches.

I see a lot of people are using home-assistant. Has anyone tried ditching the standard hubs and use a ZigBee adapter with Zigbee2mgqtt? I'm curious to hear if it works.

Did you get the indoor 720p or 1080p or the outdoor one?

    I love my outdoor one.

Not likely. My wife always talks about my "list". There's plenty still on it :D

Indoor 720p one, I've it stuck against the glass looking out. I'd like to get the outdoor one, but need to get an electrician out to wire a plug (cables there, but no plug), budget doesn't currently stretch to that. The indoor one works well enough for now and just £17 :D

I got the Harmony Elite, arrived at the office today - counting down the hours to get home and give it a go! Was tempted by a Nvidea Shield, but only want one for streaming not gaming so thinking of going for a cheaper alternative.

Not to tempt you anymore, but the Elite is great with the Shield

Exactly this. The shield has Bluetooth which allows the harmony work better with it compared to other boxes like the mi box.

Not to put you off the shield but I find it works great with a rpi3 running libreelec as an alternative. Have a activity set up that will power on the denon avr, set input to kodi and dim lights, same works when giving the google home the same command.

I got one of those harmony elite things after coming home severely intoxicated and reading this thread.

Can you add a dodgy box remote this cos mine is broken. It doesn’t pick up a pnythkng on WiFi search. So I basically have two tv remotes now and the tv one is better and more responsive than the yoke I bought for god knows. It also started taking over my sound bar and started turning sound up and down.

What box? Most devices are compatible. Did you try to add the device by hardware name not WiFi scan?
