    expect the semis to be

    MVG vs RVB
    Gary Anderson vs Peter Wright

MVG vs Peter Wright final with MVG winning again and Peter Wright to get pissed off at losing to MVG once again

Section 2 is a toughie, Barney, Lewis, Taylor and Kim Huybrechts(hitting form)

    But I will go for;

    Lewis v MVG
    Anderson v Wright

Lewis to beat Anderson in final.....

lewis beat mvg over 11 sets
    hope so but no way

Looking at the rankings, when this tournament starts and the money from two years ago comes off then Taylor will drop to 6th and for the first time will only be the 3rd ranked English player (World Cup place in jeopardy). So he needs a good run this year to stop the fall.
His drop is caused in that he is defending 120K from his runners up spot two years ago whereas Wade and Lewis exited before quarter finals that year.

Player Current Rank New rank Current £ Lost £ Nett £

Corey cadby in there too. Potential rd2 match with Lewis.

Very impressed with him in world youth final last week.

    Cocky so and so too

He might be a match for Lewis on the scales and the size of his ego but maybe not on the board just yet but you never know. He's got a huge amount of talent.

Lewis is probably my favourite darts player on his day. Would like to see him do it again but he's looked out of sorts a few times I've seen him this year. Quite like Michael Smiths style too, but again, like Lewis, needs to hit the purple patch.

Yeah, no doubt if Lewis plays to form, cadby would be no match for him but as other posters have said, Lewis has been off form lately.

It's a match up I'd love to see. Two massive egos up against each other. I have a feeling they would not be the best of friends.

Couldn't see them hitting it off. Bumping off each maybe as they're passing on the oche.

Darts has become a bit sanitised in the last few years. No real rivalries and usually any bit of bad feeling between players is magnified a hundred fold by Sky to generate some kind of interest. They'd love a mouthy young player eager to prove himself and put the cat amongst the pigeons and Cadby could be just that.

I've heard that the Lewis and Gerwyn Price bust up at the Matchplay was entirely fabricated to create drama for television.

If true that would really depress me. I don't want WWE esque pageantry in Darts, I just want to watch the game.

The only thing I know about Mark Frost is that he possibly has the greatest nickname in the history of darts.

    Frosty The Throw Man.

It wouldn't be the first time. They make out that there is bad blood between players if there is anything less than a hug and kiss after each game and then the next time they play it's a grudge match.

If they want to talk about bad blood then they can mention MvG and Klassen not getting on but not a word about that.

Doubt they'll bring up Bristow's tweets either.

I came across this old vid of the two of them the other day. It seems that MVG and Klaasen were really close before Jelle did what he did.

Definitely weird to see him with hair, he had the worst case of premature male pattern balding that I've seen.

The first time I exactly ever saw him was against Wolfie in the 2006 World Masters Final. I remember being so excited that a teenager won it.

I was a keen teen myself in those days, never reached the heights of MVG though.:(

I play Div 2 in a pub league, but have never got anywhere as a singles player. Don't have the head (or talent) for it.

Just my opinion and I like Lewis great player to watch when he's on but I dont think anyone is in MVG's range talent wise. He's the best there's ever been his score's , averages, consistancy's over the years just out of this world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

The consistency is the big thing in darts.

Lewis, Anderson and others at their peak can match MVG at his. It's just he produces the goods a hell of a lot more regularly. Also his b game and under pressure game are amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,229 ✭✭✭marklazarcovic

Some lads do complain it's boring him winning everything but for me the way he goes about it makes it exciting..he could do 120 average and blow away the best ando or Taylor could throw at him and it would look effortless..

Darts is in good hands with mvg leading the pack..just need a few to buck up and challenge him,he will go stale eventually if not .

God i cant wait for it to start, Working for a good bit of it but will be keeping a sneaky eye on proceedings lol

MVG to win i think but would not be surprised to see him lose out like last year

The World Championships is the tournament that MvG is most vulnerable due to the set play. His opponent doesn't need to win more legs than him to win the match and even when he puts in a burst of continuous winning legs they are never out of it due to sets. He's still the favourite but not as clear favourite as he would be in other tournaments.

This might be Peter Wrights big breakthrough year in terms of majors. He now has the experience of many finals and semi finals behind him. He seems to be very consistent and I doubt he fears anyone, even MVG. He just needs to find that extra percentage point or two to get him over the line and he's well capable of that.

MvG and Anderson will be favorites above him for the title but Wright is the best 'outsider' bet. Lewis is too far off form to be a contender this year.

He's been at this the passed couple of years brings no form whatsoever into the event and then shows up with the a-game ,depending on the draw id say he will get to a Quarters at worst

He'll have to beat Barney to get to a quarter final, Barney also seems to always bring his A Game so I cant see it for Lewis.

Poxy quarter he is in too with Taylor a potential quarter final opponent if he somehow managed to get there and then MVG in a semi ... really is the toughest possible draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Yeah I agree. Lewis finds consistency and motivation hard but this is the tournament that gets his juices flowing. Since 2011 his record is,

    Winner
    Winner
Quarters (lost 5-4 to MVG with a 100.80 average)
Semis (lost 6-0 to MVG with a 99.19 average in a bizarre match)
3rd round (lost 4-3 to Barney with a 97.55 average)
Final (lost 7-5 to Anderson with a 100.23 average)

Nobody has a better record here in that timeframe.
He has a nightmare draw and could have to beat Barney, Taylor, MVG and Ando to win it but 40/1 is a huge price for a player who saves his best for this tournament.

Wade at 40s in the easier bottom half looks a bit of value to me as well.
Beaton and King look in his way to get to the quarters.

Taylor at 11s is my other bet, having a bit of time off with missing the last tv tournament might be just what he needed to prepare. Again though he's in the nightmare top half due to falling to number 4 in the rankings.

The 40/1 on Lewis could be great value though because if he hits form with high averages he would be favourite against Barney and Taylor giving an opportunity to hedge. MVG will be heavy favourite over everyone but if he took care of him in a semi then he would probably be favourite against Anderson/Wade

Have a feeling for Lewis, he won't be afraid of Barney, MVG or Ando but if meets Taylor, I would worry, Taylor would probably be up to his antics n put him off his game..
    Otherwise, Lewis for me..

Barney is playing well coming into this one, would'nt be surprised Taylor came close to another one, been going under the radar the passed month or so, MVG i feel the sets format wont suit him as well as the leg set up,ridiculous year if he does pull it off

McGowan has settled down now and is playing well.

Bad start to the 3rd set. Missed put on breaking Lewis's throw and then had a terrible leg. I think he was barely under 200 after 15 darts.
He wasn't much better there. No break either which maybe he needed.

Good leg there. If he holds throw he'll be 2-2 and in with a good shot.

Was it McGowan that gave Taylor a right rattle at World Champs a few years back?

Yeah it was. Mick got a blood disease that pretty much ruined his career. He is healthy again now though and fighting his way back.

That 15 in the last leg killed him with Lewis throwing a 180 straight after. Showed great nerve
to hit back qith a 180 of his own but just fell short.
