26 Nov - Katie Taylor Pro Debut + Lomachenko v Walters

Expecting to start around 21:30 or so, her debut is against seasoned, albeit weak fighter Karina Kopinska.

I have Katie winning on points. The biggest positive of this in my point of view is that she is being promoted by Eddie Hearn. There's constant articles on Sky Sports etc. now which there wouldn't have been otherwise.

Good luck to her and we should expect an exhibition style win. .

She's first on the live broadcast card? Which starts at 8pm on Sky. Would have thought she'll be in between 8.30/9

Can someone please post when the fight is about to start...so I might manage to catch online

The Taylor coverage has been way beyond anything I could have anticipated, fair play they are pushing her relentlessly and I think she's going to put on a good show.

Good scrap here with Jones and Hall.

She's last on I'm pretty sure. Ring walk should be close to 10.

Now this is an example of quality body work from Jones, not that sh1t from Ward last week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,928 ✭✭✭Morrison J

Eddie Hearn is a horrific matchmaker. Way too soon for Hall to take that fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,928 ✭✭✭Morrison J

Taylor on next by the looks of things.

Just caught the Hall fight there and for a guy with only 11 fights he did quite well. Jones was a step too far at the moment, but this is the type of fight I actually think he can learn a lot from as long as his confidence isn't dented.

Slightly off topic but Nick Blackwell was apparently sparring recently, fell ill again and had to get a procedure to relieve pressure on the brain. Madness.

    Jesus, absolutely crazy.

I always thought he was the sort of guy who would really struggle without boxing. Hopefully he's all right and realises that it's finished for him.

    Katie looking great in there.

Think she'll stop it round after next.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

    Katie looking impressive here.

Despite the stoppage her opponent was genuinely tough.

Very strong is our Katie. Going to be hard to beat.

Pretty emphatic, that. Well done Katie. Onwards and upwards.

Impressed with her hand speed and the power she's generating ( planting her feet like an old pro). Impressive start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,366 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Left hook to body worked very well. Speed there and feet there. Lot of shots not landing. Tough Pole who was very weak. Katie's power or lack of is something that would concern me down the road...I just hope they don't rush her too much...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

Great performance by Katie. Hopefully she can keep up that pace in all her fights.

I think you are confusing her speed/delivery with power. Nothing there tonight definitively showed a clear power.

I think a year for a world title, if that's the plan, is more than reasonable. She could easily achieve it in half that, to my mind anyway, but you need a good build up too as part of the package.

On the power thing, if she had real power she'd never have lost as an amateur and wouldn't lose as a pro either. Dont know enough about pro boxing to know what kind of power hitters might be lurking out there, wouldn't worry me that much to be honest.

I think very few professional women boxers have genuine 1 punch knockout power, but Katie is a very busy boxer who throws lots of shots in bursts, that in its self will see her doing very well... Looked very impressive tonight,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,315 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Perfect start anyway. Onwards and upwards.

    This.

I was actually counting down the seconds until Walshb started on about power, power, power.

    Obsessed.

She's back in two weeks... looking forward to following her.

Selling out the point or whatever its called now is a big ask (10k capacity?) but on the evidence of the interest so far, i'd hazard a guess and say she could manage it or come close anyway. Safer to say the stadium wouldn't be big enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,366 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Can't warm to this Flanagan nobody...this looks like a mismatch..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,928 ✭✭✭Morrison J

Size difference in the Flanagan fight is ridiculous.

Ohara Davies also looks very average imo. Easy nights work for Josh Taylor if that fight ever happens.

Unexpected good scrap over on Sky. Hibbert broken nose in the first round. Gethin announced his retirement last week but got this on a few days notice.

Hibbert is nearly always in a good fight.

    Wow, big finish.

Just as he was looking good himself.

    Very enjoyable fight.

Very very VERY badly. Taylor is Hearn's first foray into it properly so I'd suspect she's kinda a tidy paycheck each time. This should've been done much sooner on the back of WMMA.

50k is really good for a debut former world title holder Perez and former GGG opponent Stevens got less. Plus Shields was in a 4 rounder so 50k is very decent.

Anybody wait up for the Lomachenko/Walters fight?

Good technical fight here. Very good defense from both guys, but Loma is definitely winning after 4 rounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭SHOVELLER

Halfway through and Lomachenko has landed almost twice the amount of punches and this is reflected on the scorecards. 6-0.

Walters hearing too many voices in his corner.

    Lomachenko is some technician.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭SHOVELLER

Walters has given up at start of 8th. Wise decision as the 7th was embarrassing. Honestly Walters did not look like he wanted to be there.

Lomachenko really is beautiful to watch.

Skill levels are just off the charts!

Ooops, just as I said that Walters quit. Didn't expect that. I know Loma really turned it up in round 7, but I thought Walters would have kept going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Ada boy Lomachenko - waving the Roscommon flag there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

I think he just quit. He knew he hadn't a clue how to win this and it was only going to get worse.

    He should have kept going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭SHOVELLER

Lomachenko wants Vargas next. Roy Jones says Lomachenko v Pacquiao is possible.

Walters saying he hasnt been in a ring in a year but real reason he quit is he didnt want to be humiliated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,282 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Said his corner pulled him out, they looked shocked it was all him imo, good fight poor ending.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,131 ✭✭✭Burial.

Saw a comment on reddit "Stephen Hawking can't explain these angles". Sums it up well. Very dominant performance by Loma. But Walters is not the fighter that destroyed Donaire. Doesn't seem to have the hunger left. Taking nothing away from Lomachenko though, he's developing into a top pro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,366 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Walters just fed up not being able to impose himself. He was losing, but not getting beaten up at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

Very disappointing from Walters. Had been badly outboxed in the 7th but hadn't taken the kind of punishment that justified waving the white flag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,027 ✭✭✭✭titan18

Lomachenko is P4P no1 imo after that fight, especially round 7. He took a very skilled fighter in Walters and made him look like he never stepped into the ring before in his life. Walters had nothing, and if he stayed fighting, Lomachenko was just going to humiliate him.

His steparound move is the greatest thing in boxing atm, just beautiful to watch, and he does so much damage offensively off whilst also completely nullifying his opponent.

Also, it probably won't happen, but I'd pay a ****load of money to see Lomachenko and Rigondeaux fight each other.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,366 ✭✭✭✭walshb

titan, it won't happen. It may happen if Rigo had half the desire, hunger, bottle and passion to want to seek the challenges that Loma seeks..all this Rigo excuses and defending is bull.. the dude doesn't want any real tests.
