Wheel rim restoration (Rostyle)

    Hi all,
    I've recently acquired a 1978 MG Midget, in excellent condition but the wheel rims could do with being restored. They'd probably need to be blasted and then painted (2 colours so masking etc required).

    They're Rostyle wheels.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated - I'm in Bray.

    I wanted to have my Rostyles repainted last year and found it difficult to locate a 'wheel refurb company' who would do the job. They seem to have no problem doing the silver part, but adding the black sections didnt seem to interest them. As it happened I ended up finding (rare) period alloy wheels for my classic, so the rostyles are now in storage.

    I used 'Carlow Powdercoating' to have the alloys restored (all silver finish). They are great to deal with and have very fair prices.

    To do Rostyles properly with chrome and black will cost a small fortune (and AFAIK there's only one company in the UK that do it), buying good second hand is possible as there are plenty in that size available, or the easiest option is to just change the wheels.

    An alternative is to get the wheels powder-coated in silver (much better/long lasting that just spray painting the wheels) and then get a local (and willing!) spray painter to paint the black sections.

    Incidentially, ring around for a few quotes....I found (big) differences in prices for powder-coating services.

    Haven't yet used Carlow Powdercoating but have seen some tractor wheels they refurbed at a local tyre fitters and they looked good.

    Got great recommendations from various people about them. Gave them a call for full refurb of old corroded alloys for an mk1 MX5 and was quoted €225 for the lot, seemed very reasonable given the job is more involved than it would be on modern rims in decent nick. Haven't the monies at the moment but hope to get them done before the show season nxt year.

    You can also buy stainless steel wheel rims from just mg's in Antrim for around 100 euro's.......look really good on my MG
