Some very interesting draws in the first round. I like this tournament as you get to see some of the players that haven't made the other majors throughout the year.

One of my favourites aswell. I wish we had an option of which stage to watch though as they'll most likely show as many 'top' players as possible live.

Anyone else noticed that Wades walk-on music is always different on ITV4.
Same tune obviously, but ITV4 start it from 'guess who just got back today' and do the whole first verse, whereas in Sky tournaments they just play the chorus line 'the boys are back in town' about 10 times and no other lyric?
    ITV4>>>Sky in this case.

Has to be the worst stage backdrop on the tour.

    Not good enough, didn't qualify.

I knew he didn't play much of the smaller tournaments but thought he might be in top 64...guess not.

Yeah, quite surprising really, £8K winnings was the effective cut-off for T64 and he ended up with just under £4K.
20 events with £10K to winner (£6K RU, £3K SF, £2.2K QF etc) it really shouldn't be that difficult to qualify even playing just a select few events. Actually quite careless of him.

These breaks after 5 legs are a pain in the hole.

Dolan struggling here...he'll do well to turn it around.

Daryl Gurney looks to be getting knocked out here thank god, what a d!ck!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 150 ✭✭Head Wreck

Anderson knocked out 6-5 against Ron Muelenkomp (something like that)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,045 ✭✭✭✭gramar

A dose of the jitters there from Webster after a mini comeback from Kist before he got it together.
He had some excellent finishes in that match.

Another MVG/Wright final in the offing it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

    Nearly crowed him.

Anything to say about that Ally Dick?

Wrights bottle from 9-7 down to pull it out of the bag.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 641 ✭✭✭raiders11

Great last couple of legs in the Wright v Huybrechts game.....Wright showed balls of steel, the double 8 in the last leg with last dart in hand.....but when 9-8 down and Huybrechts had the darts and started with a 180, ye thought that was it but fair due to Wright, he followed with a 180, that won it for him in my eyes, Huybrechts only got 58 then and Wright was in

We won't be seeing Ally Duck until January because Peter Wright is going to win this tournament.

Mvg 5-0 down after 1st interval v Webster. Still only 1-3 to win.

    Make that 6-0. Sensational.

    Webster won't get another leg

7-6 Webster. Mvg won 6 in a row from 6-0 down. 7 all now and Mvg has just been attacked on stage!!!!!!!! (By a wasp)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,967 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

8-7 Webster at the final interval. Looked like mvg was going to demolish the demolition man at 6 all. Webster was starting to miss big singles and darts were way of the mark. Credit to him though, he seems to have steadied the ship. You feel if mvg can raise his game by another 10% he should get over the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,967 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

Webster misses double top on 160. Mvg gets double 4. 8 legs apiece

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,967 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

Mvg breaks for a 9-8 lead. Mvg ahead for the first time in the game. He has had 20 missed doubles.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,045 ✭✭✭✭gramar

Thought he had it after 10.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,967 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

11-8 mvg with a 144 check out. Webster will never get a better chance. He will be hurting tomorrow. Great effort though. He showed his 5-0 win over Taylor in the gsod last week was no fluke.

Great match really enjoyed it nice to see Mvg having a battle.

Webster played great all weekend very unlucky there.

Gutsy 101 checkout from snakebite there after chizzy missed the bull for the match.

Great finish under the cirsumstances. Chizzy got the jitters but saw it through in the end.

Corey Cadby certainly has the physique to be a top player.

Well that's that. 25 titles for MvG this year. If he takes this form and can apply it to the set format of the World's he will take some stopping. He's a different level at the minute.

    yawn :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

darts becoming boring and predictable again.

Unfortunatly it is but you have to credit VanGerwen. He's absolutely flying at the minute. If you forget its a match between two players and look at Michaels scoring and finishing its epic. He makes it look so simple.

When he really turns it on he's impossible to live with.

A few players have had him worried lately but they almost seem afraid to finish him off. Definitely an aura of invincibility about him at the moment.

kind of sick of seeing him win everything :D:D but hes a class act and is still only 27 (has about 30-35 years left imo)

8 Major PDC final wins so far this year. Ill be shocked if he doesnt win the world championship but anything can happen in the World championships

I doubt MvG will stay going 30 more years. The money nowadays means he just doesn't have to. There's more to it than money I know but hard to see it him competing that long to be honest.

It does seem that way. It's gone beyond saturation point.

Unfortunately I have to agree. The sport needs a big World Championship to get it going again. All of the terrible non-ranking tournaments need to be scrapped too and replaced with a new major.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

the grand slam was much better when it was on itv and played with afternoon and evening games
it was my fav tournament with the bdo lads invited
    no sky hype rubbish
    now its just another event

they have fcuked up other unique events and made them bland

Problem with the World Champs, it's totally dragged out, 15 Dec to 2 Jan:eek:

As has been said already, too much darts on tv.... and them bloody breaks, a game just seems to be hotting up and off they walk:mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,615 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

Ad breaks are a curse obviously.

May not apply to the people who stream it but for anyone with UPC or Sky and a recorder box I've found by far the best way is to record it and let the program be started for around an hour about before you start watching.
Can then skip through the ad breaks, quirky analysis, pointless interviews and just watch the darts. Usually have caught up by around the middle of the last game in a 4 game session.

Don't do this if you are partial to an in-running bet and liable to forget you aren't live!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

    Breaks don't bother me.

The contant weekend non ranking events do though.

All those European tour events and stuff, you'd be sick of the sight of the top 8 guys.

Never thought I'd agree there's too much darts on but it really is over saturated at this point. The Worlds almost ties Cheltenham for my fav sporting event of the year and this year I'm not nearly as looking forward to it as normal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

i would imagine the players are the same
sick of playin micky mouse events every weeknd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

This is a good documentary about the PDC players life on tour. It was shot during the Gibraltar Trophy this year.

It's a good time to be a darts pro in the PDC, there's never been such money in the game. The likes of golf pros and tennis pros tour year round, and nobody complains of oversaturation of those sports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Without a doubt it's good for the players being able to earn cash.

If they were ranking tournaments that every player had a chance to qualify for it would be one thing. It's the meaningless exhibition things with the same 8 players I find boring at this stage.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,326 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

The tour is great and long may it continue. Every tour event is a ranking event and open to all players with a tour card.

As mdwexford said, it's the rubbish non-ranking events that are televised that need to be stopped. There are 11 non-ranking televised tournaments on throughout the year. That is insane!
