Looks like the Inhumans movie has been turned into a TV series. Black Bolt and the Royal Family have been confirmed.
Inhumans will exclusively show its first two episodes on IMAX screens for a two-week window — the first-time a live-action TV series has done so. The series will subsequently air on ABC with “additional exclusive content that can only be seen on the network.

Perlmutter got his wish I knew the Inhumans film would never happen when Feige took control on the movie front.

Seriously though Inhumans man Perlmutter musts love them the way he has been pushing them

Disappointed this is going to be on Network TV they won't have the same freedom the Marvel stroytellers get at Netflix.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Next year? If so, at least it means SHIELD won't have to drag out the Inhumans for as long as they would've. Though wonder if SHIELD will be ignored for the most part. Be stupid if they did that

    It looks terrible!

Could this be Marvel's first real misstep.

    Deary me. It looks sh*te.
This has the same showrunner as Iron First, Scott Buck.
Any ideas if this will be shown in Cineworld?

This looks just well I hate to say it but terrible. The CGI looks terrible the stunts look like something from a bad 80s B movie and the acting does not look great either. Its almost like Marvel decided they should rush this and get it out before something like oh I dunno maybe before CBS releases "Star Trek Discovery" maybe. Maybe they want it too fail.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

People are weirdly obsessed with saying "could this be Marvels first real misstep" (in almost that exact phrasing) all the time... firstly, no. If we're assuming a connection to the MCU (which is an understandable assumption, though not necessarily accurate), then Marvel's first real misstep was probably Iron Man 2 and they've done pretty well since then. However, this is produced by ABC and Marvel Television, not Marvel Studios and, given that this is definitely an Ike Perlmutter project, and the animosity between him and Kevin Feige, it's likely enough that Feige doesn't consider this canon with the MCU (all but certain, in fact). In which case, Marvel's missteps as a whole date back decades, in terms of their tv/film outputs.

This doesn't look great, but then, neither did Agents of SHIELD and that turned out to be one of their strongest properties. Tbh, I'm not a huge fan of the Inhumans anyway so if this crashes and burns, I won't be too bothered. I'll give it a watch anyway.

Good to see Lockjaw in there though...!

AoS was Marvel's first attempt to really expand the MCU across different platforms and as we all found out it's hands were tied because of Winter Soldier.

Since then they have made 6 other tv series they are well and truly into the swing of things now so they should be able to get a decent trailer at the very least.

Iron Man 2 wasn't as much a misstep but just a very rushed badly made oh sh1t we have something here with a Universe building series of films from there on the ground was laid and the MCU as we now know it was built on it being rushed to screen.

Now maybe it is just a bad trailer but there is something about the costumes and sets and general look that just doesn't work for me in that trailer

It's fully accurate to assume a connection to the MCU.
Regardless of any relationship between Feige/Perlmutter, It's connected. Its the same universe.

Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Lady Sif, etc, all made appearances on AoS. We have countless of references to the Movies in the TV shows. Feige was even an EP on Agent Carter.

The problem is that the relationship mostly goes one way, which is due to tensions between Feige/Perlmutter, but there is a definite connection, although minimal.

If Feige had it his way, the television component/connection wouldn't exist, but his bosses at Disney say otherwise.

Whether we like it or not, Inhumans is connected to the MCU, and could very well be... based on the trailer, be Marvels first turkey.

I agree, Iron Man 2, Hulk, Iron fist, were all mediocre at best, but Inhumans looks like it could be next level bad.

That trailer is a farce, so bad, I think it could even damage the creditably of AoS, and to a greater extent, the MCU as a whole.... That's how bad I think it is :)

I'm talking specifically about Inhumans, which we don't have confirmation as being part of the MCU. All we really have is the fact that it was gonna be an MCU movie until Feige got control and nixed it.

True. I haven't seen any official word on it being part of the MCU.
Highly unlikely it won't, given that it's developed by ABC and the fact that the inhumans have already been introduced in AoS.

If it's as bad as the trailer makes it look, all links to MCU should be severed. Make it a standalone like Legion.

Yeah I think it'll be decided based on quality/reception, which is definitely the way to go.

As I said, I'm not a big Inhumans fan and based on that trailer, I hope it's very surprisingly good or a very short lived series...

Also putting out a Marvel show on Network tv and not having it as part of the MCU would really confuse the audience they want to attract especially the same channel that has AoS and had Agent Carter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89,030 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I just think Addams family lost in space from the trailer :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Even if it doesn't tie in directly with the MCU it needs to somehow tie in with AoS or it'll just be too confusing, as you say

I was horrified by both trailers, this does not look good at all.

It's a very hard book to adapt but these just looks cheesy, cheap and not translated from book to screen properly.

Still obviously once it's on TV I will give it a chance, but I'm not going to a cinema for the first episode should they offer that in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭Kur4mA

Whoever is casting for this should be fired tbh. I also agree that it looks terrible from the trailers so far.

I dunno, maybe it's just the song, but i think this trailer looks kinda awesome. It looks so much better than anything that's come before it. Gives me some hope that this just might be okay.

What I'm presuming to be Attilan looks so god-awfully drab; all brutalist concrete and greys but without any actual personality. Maybe it's just a bad selection of shots: why on earth would people pay money to see that in IMAX?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,475 ✭✭✭kerplun k

Some early reviews creeping in, saying this is an absolute cluster f**k. I for one am shocked.... SHOCKED.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,572 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yep, I read a review on IGN earlier. Not complimentary. Bit of a disaster... I'm not surprised though. The promotional material has always had an amateurish feel.

In fairness, how poor was Agents of SHIELD at the start? Now it's a completely different show and one of the best of its genre on TV.

I don't have high hopes, but I'll give the whole thing a watch in the hopes it can come good.

That's about the only thing that's making me give this a chance, but at the same time there are plenty of shows that start bad and just get worse, so swings n' roundabouts etc.

If anything, that caveat just means I'm staying far from this show until it either proves itself or otherwise. No point wasting time until I know it's worth the investment ...

I've abandoned any plans to see this in IMAX.
I just hope when I watch this on TV, that it's as bad as the critics say it is.

The reason I say this, is because I've noticed a growing trend in criticism, where it feels as though some critics are almost willing shows/movies to fail, which is very unfair. It seems when a certain show/movie receives some negative buzz, then that's it, game over. Critics make up their minds and write the review months before its release, and when its released they absolutely slate it. I read the review, end up skipping it, and months later, I catch it on home media, netflix, etc and think it's nowhere near as bad as they said it was. this seems to be happen more and more, and has gotten to the point where I am just starting to avoid reviews and articles.

Maybe this is just me, but I think professional criticism in general can no longer be trusted. I cant put my finger on it, but it seems some reviewers think their reviews and articles are more important that the projects they are reviewing, IGN in particular is especially guilty of this. Look, I want an honest review, but it just seems nowadays, criticism ins't balanced, something is either really really good, or the worst thing they've ever seen. Maybe its the smart phone/social media/short attention span, age and culture we live in, where a review has to be hyper critical and extreme to garner any sort of reaction, and increase the number of clicks.

Anyhews, I'll wait until I see this before I pass judgment, but if its not absolutely shockingly bad, something which the critics have led me to believe, I'm done listening to critics, and wont be reading any content, prior to it's release of stuff I'm looking forward to seeing, reading or playing.

Or maybe, critics, like ourselves, are making judgements based on the material & promotion actually given. No conspiracy, no cabal of criticism, just the nature of option; everyone has an agenda & everyone has a presumption or preference, but it's not like Inhumans has knocked it out of the park in terms of enticing an audience.

And whether it wants to or not, it's up against stiff competition given Marvel is well represented on TV: Agents of SHIELD is riding high, the Netflix shows ploughing their own furrow, The Gifted's promos make it look like it might be a solid thrill, and the recently broadcast Legion took a dive off the deep end and was fantastically surreal. Compared to those, Inhumans - SO FAR - looks like a lame, 1990s era superhero show. It can only hope to surprise everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,475 ✭✭✭kerplun k

Yep. Your probably right about the critics. It could just be my own paranoia because some of the things I was looking forward to this year weren't that well received. Most of which I felt were either unfair or harsh.

Completely agree with you regarding Legion. IMO, Its been the best TV comic book adaptation to date. I Loved it. Before I seen it, I wanted Dan Stevens to play Danny Rand. I was so happy he done this instead.

With Inhumans, I'll wait for it on TV, and give it a fair assessment. Totally agree that the promotional stuff. It was just plain awful. It's a talented cast, so, hoping they can get past the silly costumes, and bland CGI, (based on what I've seen in the trailers), and just focus on telling an interesting story.

Did someone go and watch it in the cinema?

Some reviewers I trust had posted horrendous reviews so I'm curious what other people think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

only really watched Graces review and looked at a few headlines

    so, feels like it:
    - suffers from having no money to pay for itself
    - feels a bit like Hawaii Five-0 .. but I haven't seen that show so dunno what she means
    - is stuck in Hawaii even though they can go anywhere I think?
    - suffers from Marvel/Disney no-baddie policy
    - is the fault of some guy at marvel whose name didn't ring any bells for me

after graces review I checked google news and some sites like io9 have stories with positive sounding headlines so I dunno

I'm not gonna pay for an IMAX ticket to go see it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

Thanks, I give it a pass because so far I have not seen anything positive from people who usually have similar opinions to me.

Once on TV I might check it out but not going to waste an IMAX ticket than.
