My running for December was rubbish, but I started getting back into things just after Christmas. Had a fairly good week there last week.

All easy running for me at the moment though. I'm targeting a 5k in March, so just trying to build up a bit of a base before I get back into a proper plan at the end of the month.

Must say, I'm missing the interaction of the novices thread. That joint goal really did keep us all focused.

Have a think about starting a training log?

Hello again. I can count on my hands the amount of times I've been out running since the DCM. I'm signing up for the connemara half marathon in April. I have to beat my friend's PB of 1:35ish and ultimately beat him on the day :pac:

I did the tralee hm in 2:05, did the R&R hm in 1:48 then the DCM in 4:28. I reckon 1:35 is doable.

I need an excuse to get out again!

I did a 1:48 HM and then 4:28 DCM too. All I can say is if you manage a 1:35 HM by April I need detailed notes of everything that you do between now and then. ;)

Just did quick maths and that's faster than 4:30/km.... hmmmm... significantly faster than I'm used to... boards never fails to put my ambitions into perspective :p

My friend is also out of training so he's probably not capable of that time at present

If I can manage a 1:35 HM by April 2018 I'll be delighted!

    Hey all,

I've kept up with running and will be on week 5 of the base plan tomorrow. Pretty happy with it. Loved running Christmas/New Year's, etc. Some January junk food as slipped into the picture on my side. Trying to make it to the gym twice a week, on average. My routine there is warm up on the bike or cross, then S&C. I have sometimes brought earphones into the treadmill equation, sorry BG. :pac: Tired enough sometimes at the weekend, didn't sleep well last night. But, still keen on Saturday and Sunday early starts, where practical. Max has rightly summed up the positives about running to time rather than distance.

I don't get much of a chance to read the logs, plus I'm not that technically minded to understand some of the points being made. :p Good to see new ones being set up and I saw Max said 'football - careful now' to someone earlier today re working towards a marathon. Think we had discussion in the novices thread at some point, though there wasn't much footy talk there. My toe is still black from dropping a desk on it last summer.

Think some new shoes will be on the horizon soon. Looking at holidays, but flights are a bit insane. Fortunately, I don't get the January blues, I don't mind it as a month. Busy with work and hoping for a productive Spring on that front.

Finally.. some thread action!! I was getting worried that you were all talking behind my back..

No real format for me at present, still just about keeping at the running and enjoying it. Aim is to run 5 times a week and out for the weekly LSR with my marathon training buddy. We've identified a few events we are both interested in - thinking of the IMRA 51k Maurice Mullins Ultra in March but its level "10" on their difficulty scale so that may be too much too soon. Ambitions for the Dublin Half IM in August but serious work needed on swimming first.

I am going to decide on plans for year soon and will probably start on the graduates plan but I need to work it that my long run continues on Sat mornings as opposed to the Sunday on the plan.

Keep up the running everyone.. great to see the miles being clocked up!

I've kept up the running too and started on week 6 of the base plan yesterday (although I've modified the plan slightly as I only want to run 4 times a week). Motivation hasn't been great though and I only managed to do all 4 runs on one of the weeks. To be honest I hadn't really been enjoying running lately and have been forcing myself out only because I feel I should. On some days, even the 'very easy' paced runs have felt like way too much effort.

But yesterday something clicked in me. Went out for my 'moderate' paced 65 minute run, which I was dreading all day. I felt like sh1te and almost chose going for a nap over the run. But I went out and I loved it. Every minute of it. Felt much better than I have on any of my 'easy/very easy' paced runs lately. Traffic was horrific all along the canal where I was running and it felt great to soar past all the cars. I finally remembered that I do love running:)

I'm actually looking forward to my next run. I won't have a chance to get out today but I'm hoping for a lunchtime run tomorrow.
I'm thinking I'll do a park run sometime soon to see if my annoying stitch issue has been resolved. I'm starting Myles' 10k-HM plan next week and that will lead into the end of April, which coincides with the Wexford half marathon which I'm strongly considering doing.

Hi H, honestly we were not talking behind your back, December is just mad busy so I think running takes a bit of a back seat for most people, I've only realised that this year despite falling off the wagon in December in my first 2 years running.

Actually saturdays would suit me better for the long runs too as I got used to that during marathon training, I suppose we could just move everything back a day to do this , That would give us a rest day on sunday too.

Good luck with the IM stuff, id love to do that but swimming would be a weak point with me.

Hey all! Just checking in to let you know I'm alive!
I had to take some time off running after the marathon, my IT bands hurt constantly so I took December off running completely. Slowly getting back into it now, they're still a bit tight so doing lots of gym work. I've signed up for Raheeny 5 mile in 3 weeks time to give myself a reason to go out running in the cold dark evenings!
I think I left off at page 10 of this thread so I've lots of reading to catch up on everyone

Just looking at my stats I ran 113 miles in October and 11 miles in November. Picked it up a bit with 40 miles in December and at 39 miles so far for January.

I started the base plan in December but got bored of it so trying to get out at least 3 times a week, my pacing is consistent but probably too fast to keep up long term. I think I'll also do the Raheny 5 mile at the end of the month to see where I'm at.

I started the base plan tonight \0/. Started the 30 day challenge yesterday too, now just to keep it going.

Sorry. Fell off the grid over Xmas so have loads to catch up on.

Was surprised by my wonderful other half with a trip to the Berlin marathon in October as a pressie! Delighted and excited about it!!!

Also signed up for connemarathon in April. Using HH intermediate 1 with some hills thrown in and I'm loving being back on a plan. Went to physio and got a good s&c plan for my weak ankle and glute, which have been great. They work so quickly to help with pain.

Hope you lot are all well. Going to read back and get caught up!

Great to see everyone back in action on the thread. Now that the silly season is well and truly over it should be easier to plan and to get the consistency back into your training.

If you need any help modifying your plan to suit, whether it's number of days running, switching sessions around or adjusting for a race, let me know.

For those of you still on the fence about setting up a log here I would encourage you to go for it. You'll benefit from the interaction of the wider Boards AR community and it can be a handy reference to look back on that's not just cold stats.

So, who's in for Raheny 5 ? And do you want to arrange a meet up after the race ?

I'm so used to defaulting to read this forum I've pretty much neglected the main A&R one.

Smells Like Teen Spirit on the radio tonight, I approve...

    Me. Sounds like a plan?

Great to read that so many of you are sticking with it. Sorry I haven't posted here much of late. TBH I've barely looked at the Graduates plan, as I know I can't really fit it into my schedule. Basically my plan is to race seven of the first eight weekends of 2017 (XC & road). I've exams in the second half of April, so either the Dunboyne 4 mile (March 26) or the BHAA 10k at the K-Club (April 8) will be my last race before I step away for a while.

I think I've gone over 20 mpw once since DCM. My plan was to run a HM in March. However, as I've covered so little miles, I may have to scrap that plan and run a 10k instead. Good luck with the training everyone :)

I has a question re marathon pace in the graduates plan. Tonights run was the 60 minutes progression from easy to MP. I use my latest 5k time in the calculator to get my training paces but under the training paces tab there are no marathon training paces , Under the race tab there is a marathon pace which gives me 9.40 pace , Is this the correct pace to use as I know I'm not a 9.40 pace marathon runner.

Apologies if the question has been asked and answered all ready.

It's giving me 9:31 ? Either way, based on your run last night the pace looks like it's no bother to you and if you're taking the rest of the paces as given by the calculator then I would go by this predicted marathon pace (which as I'm sure you know shows your potential for the marathon when trained specifically for that distance, not the pace you'd run it at tomorrow).

    HTH, shout if any q's.
