Anyone watch this? Pretty incredible stuff. The footage is amazing. The racer snakes/iguana chase is one of the best things I've seen on television in ages.

Brilliant show, I haven't watched a wild life in a while. I wonder was that 1 iguana or a mash up?? He used all his luck up in that one chase anyway!!!

I was hoping they'd show how they filmed some of the stuff at the end, I can't remember now which bits but I was wondering how they filmed some of it.

    Brilliant anyway.

Not sure if it was a mash-up, but it was fairly pulsating stuff. Like a game of bulldog.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭gumbo1

Absolutely fantastic. Some if not all of the footage was brilliant to watch while some of it showed how difficult it can be for animals to survive or feed their young.
There was a "diary" part at the end that showed how they filmed the bit on the penguins but not a lot on the other parts. I said to my wife "I wonder if they used drones for some of it" the komodo dragons and the lemurs in particular.

    Can't wait for next week!

The perspective they used on the komodo dragons was great. Really emphasised their size and strength. They looked huge!

I found it all rather creepy and unnerving for some reason.

That was a superb hour of television. I wonder how many of those penguins die when they are smashed into the rocks.

Those snakes were like something from a horror film

Must be hard for the crew not to intervene and help the poor victim. Even the music at the beginning had the pulse going...

    Those snakes!!!

Exceptional television from minute one to minute sixty.

    Absolutely superb.

The story behind the filming on Zavodovski island gave a fantastic insight into what is required to shoot some of this footage.

I agree. Very scary, and strangely creepy.

Two producers were on BBC breakfast (Liz White, Chadden HUNTER) speaking of how technology has moved on since the first series with 4k, camera stabilisation and drones. Also speculating about what PE3 will be like. (Can't find it on youtube).

Can't wait to watch this, anyone see it in 4k ?

Is it worth watching in 4K on a 43" TV, or will 1080p do ?

    Cheers...

    Those snakes!!!

Exceptional television from minute one to minute sixty.

When it cuts to thousands upon thousand of the Iguanas on the shoreline after they made it thought the snake gauntlet, I thought that it was pretty much an invasion force if they all banded together and launched an overwhelming assault on the snakes to essentially wipe them out. Stupid Iguanas! :D They could learn a lot from our own species ;)

Anybody ordering the Blu-ray, do yourself a favour and bundle this with it, BBC The Hunt. Another stunning BBC production if you haven't already seen it. Topic about it HERE

Superb. Just superb. Watched this in the GF's with a takeaway and a hangover.

Now I don't know whether it was the hangover talking, but I was emotionally wrecked watching the iguana/snake chase. And was seriously weepy looking at the penguins too.

    Amazing television.

The albatross waiting to hook up with his moth was great. I felt sorry for the bloodied penguins, the poor things. But those snakes would give me nightmares, the feckin' speed of them.

My only gripe with this show and some other recent BBC nature docs is the overly dramatic music, it's almost like it's trying to promote anthropomorphism, I'd rather they kept it simple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭Optimalprimerib

I loved the way the snakes were introduced. You didn't know where the attack would come from. Gripping stuff. It did lead to a heated debate on the parental qualities of iguanas though.

Watched this last night - superb, unreal TV!
    Those racer snakes !! :O !!

The way it's filmed too, stunning - and the detail and clarity , I watched it in 1080p, can't wait to check it out on 4K.

No question the BBC are the best in the world at these documentaries - hands down they win this one.

The scenes with the Komodo dragons reminded me of another scene with them (but I don't think it was from Planet Earth I)
it was a group of komodos hunting a cow or an Ox, it was really sad but just compelling viewing - it might have been 'Life' ?
anyone regognise it let me know, I have the bluRay somewhere ...

It wasn't just the BBC that were involved in making this.

ZDF, Tencent and France Télévisions also contributed.
