Ouch, maybe leave it until 2018 then!

Foo Fighters have just been added for the Sunday night. Went 2 years ago and was very disappointed that they had to cancel with Dave's injury so would be tempted by that addition alone.

    Hey,

Thinking of heading to Rock Werchter this year. Anyone have advise about getting there, Airports, buses, etc? Also is it best to camp at the Hive?

    Cheers.

I'm thinking of doing a hotel package this year. Getting too old for camping in Belgian storms!

The Hive is a relatively new set up, think it was 3 years ago when they first started doing it. It means you can camp from 4pm on the Wednesday, the day before the festival and there's normally dj's on the Wednesday night.
The Hive campsite - you're pretty close to showers and shop and the campsite is about a 15 minute walk from the main arena.

There are 3 stages, used to be 2, also changed a few years back, works out pretty well so you don't have multiple clashes on loads of stages.
They're doing more pre-pitched tents this year for an extra few quid, but depending on what you're willing to check in, if you're flying, it still works out better to bring your own cheap tent and leave behind if necessary (just check it in 1 way)

Still using tokens for beer and food which is years behind other European festivals, I've successfully managed to lose some every year no matter what I've done! mostly down to halving some tokens for food.

Anyone know what the story is with camping tickets? My friend bought a combi ticket but he is confused if needs to buy a camping ticket too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭Reggie noble

They will have to buy camping ticket separately

They've announced a few names the last 2 years about half way through January so I'd say expect something on Friday 13th

So who do Ye hope gets added to the lineup ?

So who do Ye hope gets added to the lineup ?

Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and R.E.M.

Seriously though, it's already a pretty decent lineup, maybe Prophets of Rage or Nine Inch Nails would fit in well? Or maybe Tool if they ever release that album.

Expecting Green Day, Editors and Jimmy Eat World to be announced on Friday. Their tour dates line up perfectly with Rock Werchter

Would love if Pearl Jam were added, highly unlikely now with all the headliners already announced.
Would expect Wolf Alice to be announced sometime soon as well, they'll probably explode when Trainspotting 2 comes out as their song is on the trailer

Cant see Green Day being announced if they already have the headliners confirmed. Would be happy with Editors and JEW

    Oscar and the Wolf added.

They don't seem to be following the same pattern of announcing on Friday evenings like the last 2 years...."More names to follow shortly" is the only indication when the next batch will be announced

The confirmations for the Belgian Rock Werchter 2017 festival come flying in. Today five great names are added to the bill: Lorde, James Blake, The Lumineers, Dropkick Murphys and Future Islands. The bill-in-progress for Rock Werchter 2017 is now 15 names long. More to follow soon.

Probably gonna be crucified for asking but is there DJ set's at night on the campsite after the main arena closes?

Only in the Hive. It's not even well known djs, just local ones. That's really the main place to go for bigger sessions after the music.

This week the Rock Werchter team is delighted to confirm some great new acts for the upcoming edition. Five to be precise: Royal Blood, BAZART, Bonobo (live), White Lies and Agnes Obel. The line-up for Rock Werchter 2017 is slowly taking shape. More names to follow shortly.

No space for Muse on that lineup!

Saturday sold out too! Never thought Linkin Park, SOAD, and Blink 182 would be the fastest selling day in 2017!

Brussels easily, train goes from airport to Leuven which is where the shuttle bus goes from.

Cheers Mushy , When it comes to picking your camping option when does general camping open since it only has the Hive options on sale

Totally up to when you land in and want to camp. The Hive is early camping opening day before music starts, now appears to have added glamping lark. When other options are open, it's first come first served on first day of bands. I preferred the 2014 option of setting up day before music, other time in 2007 was drinking on road overnight before any campsite opened.

Thanks for that bit of info. :)

We've booked accommodation in Brussels for the weekend, going on Sunday for the Foo Fighters, but not sure about transport back after the gig on Sunday night. How late do the trains run?

    Thanks. ;)

As Mushy said, just at The Hive, and even then I don't think it's anything to write home about.

RW isn't known for its crazy antics, that said the campsites are always generally a good bit of craic as there's so many nationalities, but you won't be dancing until the early morning.

I'd check out Pukkelpop (another Belgian festival, in Aug) if you want a more party vibe.

Cheers for the replies, lads. I'm going to this mainly for Radiohead, was kinda wishful thinking it'd mad at night time. Will just have to wait until EP for some early morning dancing!

From 21 to 27... Today six new acts have been added to the Rock Werchter line-up. There’s a super group: Prophets of Rage, a top indie-rock duo: The Kills, sun-drenched electropop: Crystal Fighters, new bluesy rock heroes: Kaleo, a big talent from Belgium: Warhaus and a soul revelation, who is also a great singer and pianist: Benjamin Clementine.

Tickets booked long go. Second time going. Delighted with Prophets of Rage. Staying in the hive except for Wednesday night, have a hostel in Leuven for the last sleep in a proper bed. T minus 146 days!

Do they release a handful of acts every week now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭David Della Rocco

More or less every week until they reach the 70 or 80 mark. Usually on a Friday at 3

One of the best line ups in a long time, solid announcements again today.
Back to worrying about bands clashing the way this is lining up! :)

Besides the "boutique" options available in the hive, is it possible to pick up a regular tent over there?

scratch that, I see there are regular tents in the hive too

Thoughts on names for tomorrows announcement?

Looking at Mad Cool's latest additions they added Dinosaur Jr, Foals and Cage the Elephant.
Biffy Clyro playing in Brussels tomorrow night so probably not going to be announced this week, still look like an option for RW though, based on tour dates.

Justice and Moderat playing at Roskilde so possibilities for RW (hopefully)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭David Della Rocco

I would welcome some of those off the Mad Cool lineup i.e. Foals, Kurt Vile, Savages, Wilco, Wolf Alice. I thought Foals might be a long shot but they don't seem to be as big in Belgium as they are here and the UK obviously. I would welcome Biffy but ya it's likely to be next week if at all given their gig tomorrow night.

Was delighted with prophets of rage last week. If the quality of announcements remains as high, I would imagine there will be a lot of clashes. But given the proximity of the stages to each other it is quiet easy to get to the two tents if you are just hanging at the back for whoever is on the main stage.
