First Irish show since June 2008 - hard to say how fast it will sell out.

    I'm guessing 3 minutes

I think it'll be hard to get tickets for this. It's first show they've played here in years and Radiohead fans are mental. I don't think I'll be trying for tickets.

Tickets for this will be like gold dust.

I'd imagine if there were 5 gigs they'd sell out in no time. Tickets for a second gig wouldn't last much longer than the first.

Why can't other gigs be done the same?

Radiohead have announced that they will make their Irish return next year with a concert in Dublin's 3Arena.

The band will take to the stage in the venue on June 20, 2017, with tickets going on sale on Friday, November 4 at 9am.

Tickets are priced from €61.45 and there will be a ticket limit of maximum 4 per person/transaction when they go on sale.

The name of the lead attendee will be printed on each ticket and the name cannot be changed after the booking has been made. All guests in the booking must arrive at the concert at the same time and photo identification will be checked.

While in principle it is to be admired that they are implementing those ticket restrictions its highly unlikely it will be implemented in such a large venue .

It works well in a small venue with a capacity of ~3-4k but any larger and its not really feasible.
The gig is on a Tuesday night too so you have alot of people arriving to the venue late/after work so its simply not feasible to check all those ID's .

There would be riots too if people were turned away .

Radiohead have done it in the past. People can't riot if they're turned away for not following rules that were clearly outlined before the gig.

It will be enforced, at the request of the band. I went to one of their gigs this summer and was checked for ID twice!

What if someone genuinely can't go and sells ticket on face value? Has to be provisions made for this as this will happen a lot.

Its already happened at a couple of gigs in 3Arena so the system is there to stop the touts

Yes they implemented it at the small venues but its simply not practical at a big arena I'm afraid.

This should b compulsory for all gigs

The venue I was at wasn't exactly small.

Trust me, Radiohead are extremely passionate about this and it will be implemented.

Tough crap, unfortunately. Looking at the bigger picture, it makes sense, because it puts touts completely off.I wish more bands would do this to be honest.

Oh I understand and agree with the principle of it. My only worry on a personal level is that I don't manage to get a ticket at 9am on Friday and then can't buy one face value nearer to the gig date.

You'll be able to buy one but you'll have to arrange to enter the gig with the person who sold you the ticket, plus their name will have to be on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,295 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

But that's no good if the person who sold you the ticket isn't going

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭pm1977x

Can the lead attendee be a different name to that on the credit card buying the ticket? ie. Can I buy tickets for my wife and her friend and not go myself?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,571 ✭✭✭0byme75341jo28

That would be a good system if the gig was on next week, committing 60 euro to a gig I may or may not to be able to go to in 8 months time is a bit ridiculous...

Going by past gigs where they have done this once the people attending have the card used to purchase the tickets they will get in no problem.

  • So does this mean if I get two tickets Friday, I can't sell them on if I can't end up going? If the gig was next month fair enough but a Tuesday in June next year?
Obviously I'm not a tout but things can happen.... and on the other side of it does it also mean I can't buy two tickets on done deal or whatever coming up to the gig?

Yep, pretty much. I wonder will this turn some people off from getting tickets?

I know in the UK there is a ticket resale site called Twickets which often partners with bands to resell tickets with restrictions at face value.

If I was buying tickets, that would be the last place I'd be going.

That doesn't mean that the person buying is (a) using them himself or (b) not selling them on at inflated prices.
Only way of making sure if to get people to collect them at the gig only.

Rubbish from Radiohead trying to restrict the market based on their moral principles. Pathetic. I was seriously considering buying two tickets for this gig and acting as a tout. Turned off now upon reading this. Obviously wouldn't go see them as they haven't made decent music since the start of the millennium.

    But that's half the problem.

People buy tickets and say "sure if I can't go I'll just sell them on".

If you're that bothered about the gig, you have plenty of time to clear your schedule that evening.

There was a big Hoo-ha about this for the U2 gigs last November too, but they didn't enforce it. Same venue.

Don't think they were strict with regards id but I'm almost certain I had to swipe my debit card on way in, could b wrong though

Yeah, U2 had "paperless tickets", you had to swipe your bank card going in.

Which is not quite the same as what Radiohead are doing, this will require staff at the Point to be checking tickets versus photo ID, making sure all people on the booking are coming in together etc etc. There's a fair chance they won't bother...

There might have been some paperless tickets, but they were mostly hard copy. And transferable, with no ID check

Any chance of Three doing their own pre-sale for this? They're constantly bombarding me with pre-sale offers for crap I have no interest in so would be nice for a change if it was someone decent - the last three pre-sale 'exclusives':

    Billy Connolly
    Country 2 Country
    Nathan Carter
