If you put in a London postcode is that working? Any chance the dish has moved out of allignment?

    No postcode seems to work.
I can tune FTA channels but not freesat.

It won't perform a software update either.
The last update is from 2012.
Not sure if this has any connection with being unable to tune freesat channels.

I don't think the dish has misaligned. I had all channels until I did a factory reset today trying to sort the software not updating issue.

Does having it connected to Internet during setup affect it? Just a guess as I don't have one.

Are you sure you are in 'Freesat Mode' , and not in ' Non-Freesat Mode' in the Settings?

I'd try another factory reset or else try unplug from the mains for 5 mins and retry.

Wasn't there some discussion about older boxes being unable to find the newer FreeSat home transponder when it changed last year? Perhaps a manual scan of 11426 H 27500 DVB-S QPSK 2/3 might help.

In manual tune, transponder, there's only the option to select 11426 V. Not H.
I'm getting 90% strength and 100% quality on that.

This would stop it loading as your UK Post Code and IP are incompatible.
    :o:o

Isn't there a 'user defined' option?

There's a long thread on invalid postcodes over on the hummy.tv forum.

    Worth a read I think.

I'll save the OP the bother, there's nothing there apart from checking signal on the Freesat 'home' transponder, already mentioned here.

There doesn't seem to be that option .

Only going by a downloaded manual, don't have a Foxsat, seemingly the option should be there somewhere when you go into the transponder list.

It wouldn't be much of a manual search if it didn't allow you to enter your own tp details.

You're right. I found the user define option at last and entered settings from Gerry Wicklow with the exception of DVB S2 not DVB S as there wasn't the latter option (either that or DVB).

Result: no signal and no channels found.

So if I've read this thread correctly that means I'm not pulling in the freesat tp because either my dish has moved or there's water ingress or cabling issues?
How does that explain then how I had freesat before I did a factory reset?

I'm baffled. Wish I hadn't gone near the factory reset!
Perhaps it stems from my units inability to update? Last update is 27 July 2012.

Do you still have signal on other horizontal transponders, say 10964 H, 22000, the Ch.5 tp, also in the low band.

I have 100% signal on that tp

Right, so this 'home' tp (11426 H) shares a centre frequency with one vertically polarised (on which the receiver indicates good signal), so I would think the effects of maladjusted LNB skew would be more pronounced. Might be worth checking.

Your dish needs reallignment. Proof try it on a friends dish.

when you put the postcode in leave no space try W1A1AA. my box had the same issue when i factory reset earlier this summer.

It accepted that postcode but still no channels found. Thanks anyway

So it went past 'Postcode', on to 'Search Channels', & presumably to the 'Result' screen, but found nothing? What about the 'FTA' channels you mentioned earlier in the thread?

Anyhow, it's not a case of looking for a 'magic' postcode, since there seems to be a signal issue, maybe LNB skew related, possibly also whole dish misaligned.

As somebody who doesn't know a lot about satellite's and how they work, I don't understand the significance of being able to receive one tp and not the other.
Also, now that I have postcodes that are now accepted why can my receiver get FTA but not freesat channels?
As its scanning I can see lots of frequencies being pulled in at slightly varying strengths and quality (80 to 100%) yet when scan is finished it says 'failed to detect'
And if my lnb or dish are askew, how did I have freesat before I did a factory reset?

Thanks to all who have replied.

I came across this problem some years ago with a freesat box, took it to another dish and all installed OK. Reattached it to the original dish and worked without issue.

What type of dish are you using?

I don't think the box needs to contact the home tp for EPG data, only for the postcode database, changes to channel lineup/frequencies, & software updates, so Freesat would appear to work away fine until say a channel you watch regularly changes frequency, & just disappears because the receiver isn't made aware of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,572 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

The FreeSat home TP contains the EPG and other data. As someone else suggested, you could try it on a friends known working dish. If it finds ALL the channels then bring it home without rescanning. IF you find some channels missing when you get home, you then know it is an issue with your dish or LNB. Is it possible that you were missing some of the lesser channels and didn't notice before?

Not sure what 'lesser' channels are.
I have noticed ITV HD missing for about a year.

You obviously have signal problems, certainly with the Freesat 'home' transponder.

If you don't get this sorted, you won't make any progress.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,572 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

By lesser channels I meant the likes of CBS, Home and Leisure or True Drama, Entertainment, Movies, Christmas or whatever they're calling it this week. :D

It would be possible to get the LNB skew badly off on 1 of those, as it's not limited adjustment like a Sky-type dish.

Might be visible in a photo, if you can post one.
