Formula 1 2016: Round 18 - US Grand Prix

Round 18 of the F1 WM, can Hamilton turn around or will Rosberg get a further points advantage? Rosberg cannot win the WDC already here as in the best case he would be 58 points ahead with 75 still up for grab after the race.

Quite breezy here at the circuit of the Americas.
    Much cooler than recent days.
Nice job by Vettel holding onto his mirror.

Hi all, I don't have Sky sub, so does anyone know what European channels show the race live on a Free-to-Air basis? I could spin around the Freesat dish to 19 degrees East!!!

The race is live on rtl Sunday at 8 our time.
As it's an evening race the quali is moved to n-tv, live at 7 with practice highlights before it at 6.15.
    All at 19e.
Hope you like adds though as rtl are very fond of them.

Watched 3rd free practice from the tower. You can see all the circuit except along the main grandstand area.
Suppose to stay for 15 minutes but I managed an hour.
I never realised how much downhill there is after the climb upto turn 1.
It is a really good circuit with so many good vantage points to view the action.

Interesting to see Redbull ahead in fp3, Mercedes probably have the pace but might be close qualifying

I reckon the mercs were sand bagging in FP3. Ferrari look off the pace so Red Bull should be best of the rest.

Poor old JB out again but his lap was wrecked by traffic.

Yes, didn't really use the fasted tires
Verstappen able to get through Q2 on the softs (as well as Mercedes)

Good to see Redbull will be splitting the strategy, I think still a chance Verstappen might qualify on the front row if Mercedes don't get it quiet right

edit: redbull 0.5sec off so maybe no chance of front row

The mercs and Verstappen have the better strategy for tomorrow. I'd reckon Verstappen on the podium unless he does something naughty. (Now that questionable moves will be at least referred to the stewards)

Pleased that Hulk beat both Williams, hopefully Checo can recover in the race and both guys score some points tomorrow.

I reckon Ferrari will fire somebody after this weekend. Probably the person in charge of something completely unrelated to why they're going backwards over the season. In typical Ferrari heads will roll fashion

Great lap by Hamilton, much as I don't support him.

What's the story with kerbs at this track? I thought drivers were discouraged and penalized for sending half of the car off, everyone is flying outside of the outside white line?! Wasn't this something that was a big nono over the last few seasons?!

Pity grid isd a bit more mixed up. Good that Ricciardo starts ahead of his teammate, might bit of racing between them. If Mercs get a good start they might disappear, if they don't it might be more interesting.

    Ms

That was am awesome lap by Hamilton for pole today. Nico done a good job too but I don,t think he likes turn 1 at all. He just could not seem to get the turn in right on that turn. Riccardo done good glad he is ahead of his teammate. Disappointing for Jenson only in 19th and the two Haas cars not doing great at there home circuit they done good just not as good as they had hoped maybe only getting into Q2 with one car. I also thought Marcus Ericson done good getting into Q2 in the Sauber ahead of a a Haas, a Renault and a Mclaren Honda.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The first corner is one of the real highlights.
The climb up to it, the width and then the downhill from it.
Even though I have main grandstand tickets, I had to watch some of the action from turn 1.
My only complaint would be the lack of shade but we are blessed here it is not like earlier in the week when temperatures were at 34C with humidity and the locals even were not impressed.
On the bus here going slowly as about 100,000 people make their way back to Austin after the Taylor Swift concert which was excellent. She always puts on a good show even if she had a runny nose.
Hamilton was excellent, but pole is not vital here.
Btw didn't realise the Porsches were so much louder and ear splitting compared to the F1 cars.
The historic F1 cars seemed louder too.
Now off to 6th street for some fun...

Forgot to add part of the long straight in front of the concert stage is covered in litter. I got the concert upgrade which was worth it, the upgrade had you in the circuit, but the staff will have to do a lot of rubbish collection before events begin tomorrow morning, currently covered in beer bottles and plastic containers.

Being honest, I hope we see a proper title battle from lights out to flag.

I want to come around to Rosberg winning the title. He's capitalised on a lot of mistakes Hamilton has made so far, but I really want him to pass him for the win on the track at some stage.

It might be a small thing to most of you, but to me it would make Rosberg a much worthier winner than if he goes the rest of the season without actually passing him on the track in the heat of a battle.

I just don't think it will happen around here - Lewis is too good at this track. If Lewis gets through T1 in front, it's race over.

Just hoping for one of his ropy starts instead.

Was thinking this myself after yesterday. He never used to be that bad on BBC. He's the worst thing about the Sky coverage imo

On the subject of the older BBC days.
Brundel has lost his touch on the grid walk too.

He's pretty much a victim of his own success, now that everybody else is doing the exact same thing. I know that he only has a certain amount of time to do it, but he's gotten annoyingly pushy about it and this has been especially more noticeable since he moved to Sky.

Managed to find somewhere with Sky coverage. Didn't know they had ads too. :(

I know I'm always banging on about this but the punditry is fcuking shocking. That Lazenby guy is just terrible.

Anyways, I predict a mess at the first corner. :D
