Doctor promoting "National bread week"

Was watching the programme presented by Daichi O'Shea yesterday and they had a section on national bread week.

They had celebrity doctor, Dr. Ciara Kelly on to talk about bread. It was pretty obvious to me that she is being paid to promote bread but this wasn't disclosed to the viewers.

She went on to talk about all the nutritional benefits of bread without saying anything negative. She stated that bread is low in sugar and fat and made no distinction between different types of bread.

I feel uncomfortable with a Doctor doing PR work for an industry body on a public service broadcaster as many people will take her input as sound dietary advice.

Thoughts ? Am I just overly influenced by the bad press white bread has been getting?

    Probably. Bread =/= white bread.

    Bread isn't inherently bad.

    Bread isn't inherently bad.

By not eating it* though, it kinda forces you to do better

(* bit now n again, don't replace it with oreos or whatever etc etc)

There was a man on both Sean O Rourke and Pat Kenny (and possibly other shows, those were just the two I happened to hear) last week extolling the virtues of vitamin D, and he was blatantly and obviously being paid by Avonmore to promote their fortified milk.

Bread is demonised though as if it's part of the reason there are so many people struggling with their weight.

If I ate a decent sized avocado, which I could easily do, I'd probably get more calories on board than a big standard ham sandwich. Or in the ballpark at least.

The problem isn't the bread per se. It's usually just part of a larger issue of having no idea of what's in what one eats.

Between two slices of bread...so it's the bread's fault.

Ciara Kelly made no distinction. She just said Brown may suit some people and white may suit others based on digestive issues they may have.

White bread isn't significantly worse than brown. Not to extent people make out.
Or brown isn't significantly better, dependant on whether to you a glass half full or half empty type.
    Ditto for pasta, rice etc
