Utterly insane story which is developing over last few hours. Woofe who is strong favourite to lead UKIP after a fight with a fellow UKIP MP over he supposedly contemplated joining the tories over the weekend. He is now fighting for his life.

Not a fan of UKIP, but hope he pulls through.

Apparently he was punched during a meeting of UKIP MEPs in Strasbourg.

At this stage I am in the running to be next UKIP leader.

Its a crazy story, take with a pinch of salt, but supposedly after the fight agreed that was that and agreed to move on, but he collapsed very soon after that.

The direct quotes make it sound like there's truth to it:
Ukip’s interim leader, Nigel Farage, said: “I deeply regret that following an altercation that took place at a meeting of Ukip MEPs this morning that Steven Woolfe subsequently collapsed and was taken to hospital. His condition is serious.”

Raheem Kassam, Farage’s former adviser, said Woolfe’s condition was believed to be “life-threatening”.

Thinking it could be the beginning of the end for UKIP, Farrage stands downs after election, becomes leader again, stands down AGAIN, then in charge again when new leader lasts 18 days, now this, not forgetting the whole Brexit thing.

Whilst entertaining and some interesting arguments and policies from them, thinking they could now be on the verge of collapse.

That can often with brain injuries.

Hopefully the Brits realise now what a bunch of xenophobic racist thugs they are and walk away from them.

A bizarre shower who, ironically, ceased to be relevant the very minute the referendum result came in.

This party won't exist much longer as the Tories are already moving to hoover up their support with more hardline rhetoric.

Politics this year has absolutely lost its mind.

Wake me up in 2017 when everyone's regained their marbles, please.

Eh, you might want to sleep in a bit longer than that. There's a raft of elections coming up in the next year which could completely re-shape Europe and the EU project.

A bit of prosperity and everyone remembers they really don't hate muslims terribly after all. And all the UKIPs, Front Nationales and Pegidas go away.

The MP who allegedly dropped him is on the run from the French police:eek:

Unfortunately prosperity doesn't seem to be on the cards. Even Germany could find itself in the hangman's noose thanks to Deutsche Bank. If anything more rightwing parties are gaining traction on the continent. Fear of Russia will also play a part I think.

Sky News reporting that he has regained consciousness and is alert.

In other news, MEP Fight Club has been disbanded.

    That tweet:
Reports that UKIP MEP who punched MEP Steven Woolfe is Mike Hookem, UKIP's defence spokesman, say he is now on the run from French police

Suitable name. I wonder what his nickname is...'Right' Hookem?

If you look at the party coldly and ignore their rhetoric, they have done remarkably well as its a really amateur party behind the scenes bar a few pros.

However with Brexit, their is no point to them, some of their wealthy donors are considering donating to The Tories also, and Farage does not need the party anymore.

    Mike...Hookem? Really?

Are we all sure this isn't a really elaborate hoax?

Not even pretending to give a damn.

Second hand information from some bloke who swears he saw it all then relayed from some other bloke live on the scene from ......Cardiff.

    Nice one BBC.

On the plus side of Brexit, the EU won't have to deal with these kind of nutters. FFS, having fist fights over political disagreements.

I guess the best defence really IS a good offense.

British politics has recently been like an episode of The Thick Of It with a twist of 28 Days Later.

I hope he's ok, but I was reading a bit about him to see who he was and he's got an interesting background for a guy who runs for a party that often goes on about 'the elites'
Before politics, Mr Woolfe worked as a lawyer in the City of London and acted as counsel for hedge fund managers, as well as a consultant to financial institutions.

Look at Nigel Farage's background. Very similar if I remember correctly.
UK IP is just an extra right wing of the tories.

Yeah everyone will forget about chance of being blown to sh** while queuing in an airport, shot while at a rock concert, run over while on night out or raped while celebrating new year once they have extra few quid in their pockets.

Right wing parties aint going nowhere as long as the centre and the left have their heads up their ar**es.

I am not allowed discuss …

Since he's hopefully ok, will it affect his chances of becoming leader? It might be sound strange but I would guess to certain people these things matter, I'm thinking of like Putin and Hillary and the focus on their physical well being

Maybe extend that sleep to 2021 mate and you might wake up in a non EU Ireland with the punt back in place. Gonna be a rocky few years ahead for sure for the EU project.

This gets more bizarre. Wolfe is awake in hospital, has no bleed, and is being kept overnight for observations. In a statement he had thanked fellow UKIP members and hospital. Staff. Local police have stated they have received no complaints, but would follow up if they did.

You seriously could not make up some of the sh!t that comes from that Party.

    :D

Irrelevant what you think of his politics, if you are reading this story and think that someone who wants to lead the 3rd biggest party in the UK is not an absolute bellend for suggesting a fight at 10am to sort out political differences, you are a lost cause.

I hope he makes a speedy recovery, but if UKIP don't tell him to **** the second he is healthy then their supporters need to take a long look at themselves.

It is something the media will hold against him. Anytime he tries to look strong, decisive - the basic things people look for in leaders - the media will chortle about the time he got knocked the **** out. Id say any chance he had at leadership is gone - but given it was leadership of UKIP that probably just saves him needless heartache and stress.

He is 1/2 to be the next leader with Powers. Essentially he is very popular with their supporters and was considered a cert to get it last time but missed out due to his papers not been submitted in time.

Arron Banks who is one of their key moneymen is a huge fan and will probably threaten to take his money to the tories if he is not elected this time.

Their has been an exodus across the board to the Tories since Brexit, even those who loath Woolfe in the party won't want to lose that money.

    A very odd party indeed.

See the tee shirt he's wearing? It refers to this.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Helmand_Province_incident

A guy took an afghan combatant out of range of the camp cameras and shot him. He's wearing a tee shirt to get him exonerated.
