I am a total novice when it comes to e-cigs. I've tried several a few years ago and although happy with them initially, they all ended up making a rasping noise when vaping, leaking and giving me a mouthful of liquid and were overall troublesome so I packed them in (the last one was an ego firebird). I'm hoping that the technology has improved since then and I'm looking for an all-in-one devise that is relatively easy to refill and use, that doesn't leak, with a decent battery life (or maybe a back-up battery). Basically I need a decent robust device and do not plan to upgrade every few months so price isn't too important - provided it will do the job. I've checked out starter kits but think they're exactly that - something to buy before buying a decent devise.

After reading through the threads on this forum I am totally confused but was thinking about the ELEAF ISTICK PICO 75W KIT €54 but batteries aren't included (and that's another headache trying to find a suitable battery for it):
    http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/vv-mods/685-eleaf-istick-pico-75w-kit.html.

I smoke approx 20 John Player blue per day and think it's time to switch.
    Thanks in advance.

Similar kit here with built in battery. http://e-smokeireland.com/product/eleaf-ipower-nano-kit/

The have the mod on the site you linked but not the kit including the tank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭Logo

Thanks for the link. That's a 40W unit which I assume is sufficient. I'm tempted to buy but is it an all-in-kit and all I will need to do is add liquid?
    Cheers

What level of nic do you plan to start out with? 20 JPB per day? I would say you'll be wanting 12mg at least [can be hard finding 12mg juices lately though] - and if you go that strength 40w is sufficient. Over time you may want to drop nic levels, and may find you want to ramp up the power. A 60-75w device is more future proof. But I agree with Egriff that kit is a good starter.

There's the more powerful version that goes to 80w: http://e-smokeireland.com/product/eleaf-ipower/ But you would need to buy a tank separately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭Logo

Yeah I was planning on starting with the equivalent level of 20 JPs a day and reduce the nicotine level over time. I would prefer to get an all-in kit at the 60-75w power (rather than buying separate bits & pieces). Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Thecageyone

The one Griff linked is great, but as I said, over time you may want a bit more power. The Pico is a good idea IMO, you only need buy a couple of Sasmung batteries on top. You can charge the mod via usb. I don't mind doing that with single batt devices, just wouldn't recommend it for dual battery mods. or get a cheap charger. Changing batteries is as simple as screwing a cap off, taking one out, putting the other in. It really is that simple.

Thanks for your helpful replies. I'm tempted to order the ELEAF IPOWER NANO KIT 40W as recommended.
    http://e-smokeireland.com/product/eleaf-ipower-nano-kit/ @ €47

But then maybe the SMOK ALIEN KIT with 6.0 – 220W power is more suitable?
    http://www.e-lixor.com/ @ €70

Honestly, the more I research the more confused I get!

Also wondering if e-juice has a best-by date or can I use juices that are a few years old? If not, can anyone recommend an e-juice that is similar to John Player Blue cigs?
    Thanks again:)

I just got the Alien kit today, it's a beauty, but you need 2x 18650 batteries to run it.

I kinda should have known that it wouldn't be that straight-forward. Honestly, I just want to buy an all-in-one, robust piece of kit that doesn't leak and has a decent battery life (or additional spare ones). Not looking for extra bells and whistles or a boys toy. Just something that will do what it says on the tin.
Apologies for the rant but I had to vent after spending hours researching and being no wiser. Now I'm going for a coffin nail:)

You don't know the half of it tbh, some of us vaping years still get confuzzled when searching for new gear! I've been pondering for weeks on a new mod, been a while since I bought a new one. The Alien grabbed my attention with that big screen and the side fire bar, just looked nice, and I wasn't disappointed. But I already have the chargers and loads of batteries stocked up over time. It gets a bit easier that way.

I say go for the Eleaf mini kit, get started asap. you can upgrade for Christmas :D

Can't help you much with tobacco juices, I haven't vaped them in a long time. I did however used to smoke JPB one time, man, they were the ones that did me in the most!

Thanks for the feedback. Is this what you'd recommend?

    http://e-smokeireland.com/product/eleaf-istick-pico-kit/

It looks okay and I'm just hoping that I don't need to get batteries/other stuff to run it. I just want to unbox, assemble, add juice and go.

People are going to think I endorse Aspire/Eleaf at this stage :o

Below is all you need to get started, it's what I recommend to everyone starting or picking it back up again.

iPower 80w (built in battery - all you need is the usb cable and adapter that comes included to charge). The battery life is amazing, it lasts me at least 2-3 days, even longer depending on the usage.
    http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/vv-mods/746-eleaf-ipower-80w-5000mah-tc-express-kit.html

Nautilus Mini, (tank that screws into the battery above). I've been using these tanks ever since they came on the market and never had one leakage, best mouth to lung tank in my opinion. For the tank, all you need is coils in which you change out whenever they wear out. Mine can last up to 3-4 weeks if not longer and even still get great flavour. Make sure when you have a new coil in it, stick a few drops of juice into the holes where you can see the cotton, fill up the tank with juice and let it soak for a minute. This prevents the dry hits at the start and will prolong the life of the coil.

    http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/aspire-clearomizers/470-aspire-nautilus-mini.html

Coils for the tank (go with the 1.8ohm coils!) : http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/clearomizers/469-aspire-nautilus-bvc-replacement-coil-head.html

This set up is all you need when starting. After purchasing, all you need to worry about is coils and juice. If you decide to go with that, grab yourself a few spare coils so you don't run out - that goes for juice as well!

    Best of luck :)

Thanks Mightydrumming for the post - if anything, I'd suspect you of endorsing thebestshop:) Not that I would!

To reiterate, I don't understand the lingo and am simply asking what I need. I get the Zzzzzz's when reading about atomisers, tanks, coils, batteries, mods, watts, amps ohms etc.
    Please advise if I get:
    http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/vv-mo...press-kit.html
    and
    http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/aspir...ilus-mini.html
    and 3x 1.8ohm coils
    http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/clear...coil-head.html
and juice, then I'll be grand (but maybe a tad too complicated for me).

    Think that thecageyone's recommendation of
http://e-smokeireland.com/product/el...tick-pico-kit/ but it requires (1) 18650 Battery (Batteries Sold Separately)
appears more attractive to me. Does anyone have a link to the batteries needed?

BTW, I'm very grateful to all for the replies.

    :D
The links I posted above are all you need to get started (minus the juice!).

The pico is a great device as well but for handiness sake, I would lean towards the built in battery for now. It saves having to get the 18650 batteries for the time being and swapping them out.

Hence, the reason I posted the built in. The built in battery with the iPower is huge (not physically!) and will last 2-3 days easily.

Something's up with the first link you sent, not sure what the battery is. Try reposting.

iPower and Nautilus combination isn't complicated in the slightest, all you do is unscrew the base from the tank and juice it up, same goes for replacing the coils. You're going to have to do that with any tank! 5 clicks to turn on the battery/5 clicks to turn off.

You want a couple of these: http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/batteries/474-sony-vtc4-18650-2100mah-15c-30a-battery.html

Or Samsung 25R, or LGHE2. Any will do the job.

I had 2 Picos, very nice solid little mod, pocket-sized and easy to use. I only sold them on because I wanted a dual battery mod and one that could take larger tanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭Logo

So you reckon that any of these will be okay thecageyone?
    LG 18650 HG2 20A 3000mah, LG HE4 18650 35 amp 2500 mah, Samsung INR18650-25R 2500Mah High Drain or Samsung INR18650-30Q 3000Mah

Ruby Roo has a new review up for the Eleaf istick power nano kit. You may or may not find it helpful when you get it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭Logo

Thanks to the guys on this forum for the helpful info. Received an eleaf ipower nano kit today. Took it out of pack and put juice in the transparent reservoir and tried to vape without any luck. I've pressed the button 5 times and the 40W display is showing. I tried to vape again - no joy. Have I filled the wrong chamber, should I get a pink one, or am I just plain thick:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭EGriff

Did you put a coil in? Also you have to hold the button down while you vape.

I'd turn it way down from 40w too. Depending on the coil, start around 15w and see how you go.

Cheers EGriff - think I had a blond moment cos I forgot to hold the button down:( Watching budget '17 it looks like the kit arrived just on time - fags gone up by 50c - now €11 for pack of 20!
Also, I'm not sure who to recommend more e-smoke ireland or an post - I ordered a kit online at 10am yesterday and it was delivered today before 10am. Kudos:)

Most of the Irish vendors are good like that, very fast delivery. Only thing we really get stung on here is pricing. And maybe availability on newer gear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭8mm

€11 now for a pack of 20 - wow forgot how expensive smoking is for the regular guy.

Pack a day = €77 per week and €4004 per year.

Oh and welcome new vapers - I'm sure there will be a few smokers checking out the forums this week.

Is the eleaf ipower nano still the recommendation of members here? I bought a €20 yoke about 2 years ago. Came in this generic blister pack and that gave up the ghost over the weekend. Battery unit has packed in.

I am looking no fasttech.com after reading another member buying liquids on it. With a budget of about €40, what can I get there/ on Irish sites as an all in one like OP Logo did here, just want an all in one pack for simplicity. Thanks

I have a Joyetech AIO XL and a Joyetech AIO for the past 12 months. Got both on fasttech for about $20 each. They are an all in one device with no messing about with changing wattage etc. They are basically the same unit but the XL has better battery and holds more liquid (4 mls). Same coils fit in both.
They are the only devices I have ever used so I have nothing to compare them with. If you're ordering stuff on fasttech it will take about 3 weeks delivery and keep the order less than €22 in case customs check.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

Thanks. Is there a good cloud of that unit? Are the coils generic and easily bought locally or do you buy them in advance off fasttech?

    Fairly good clouds.
I buy the coils from FT aswell. About €6 or €7 for 5. Vape shops here usually stock them too but are a good bit more expensive - think they might be €15 for 5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

Thanks Cocoman. I am after watching a video on youtube and see a guy reviewing the iJust 2 and that looks great actually. It is about €30 delivered, has simple parts and carried a huge tank. I think I am going to go with that.
I will post back here once I have decided and possibly give my opinions on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

Just before I order, anyone here know if fasttech is legit? If I buy the ijust 2 kit, is it real? I find people here mentioning they bought clones on the site, but that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Usually on fasttech they say "genuine" in the title of the real ones and "style" in the title of the clones.

As said above it should say authentic in the description. Fasttech are great for price just takes week or two to arrive usually.

Would this recommendation hold true today, for someone that’s on 40 benson a day and is not technically minded? Ease of use and strength of smoke would be the mitigating factors.
    Tks

https://ecirette.ie/shop/kits/innokin-t20s-kit/ is what I would recommend but there's plenty of excellent kits at similar price points now. I started on it after 15 years of smoking, mother and her friend smoking 45 years and haven't looked back in over a year.

I'm an experienced long term vaper and i recommend POD's unless you like spending time tinkerig around with MODs,etc ive loads of MODs but i dont use them anymore POD's are much better, smaller and portable and less fuss, more and more vapers are turning to POD kits thesedays.

Highly recommend this, i use this myself and its brilliant, i cant fault it,awesome DTL vape.
