That might do well. The K13 was very wishy washy.

Have a 1998 Nissan Micral 1.0L (K11) which is grand, does the job.

But have to say...that new one does look nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,930 ✭✭✭GavMan

K13 wasn't the worst. It was a big step up from 12. Probably wasn't as successful as it should have been between Korean competition and a dent in confidence from the K12.

Perhaps this iteration will continue the renaissance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

It finally doesn't look completely soft and shít. That's an improvement for sure!

Now all they need is to be brave and make a NISMO one. :D

First glance looked like a fiesta to me...

Micra R sounds like a plan, awd turbo ?

You could almost call it a yicra or a Maris, and now built in France too like a previous Yaris. Much better attempt and the first Micra in years that looks like an improvement of a previous generation.
A Nissan salesman told me sure, when every New micra is released the "customers claimed was worse than the last one " , in 2011 they were finally right.

It needed a remodel badly, the only sales I have seen on the roads of them in the last 3 or 4 years have been hire cars, they must have bought them in bulk cheap.

The last model was mainly designed for emerging markets in the Far East, South America, etc. It was designed and built to a budget which was nowhere near European standards in terms of packaging and quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Yeah the K13 never did anything for me, nothing has since the K11 really but this one looks really cool.
I'll be looking forward to getting one in work so I can get a hands on because next to yhe likes of a Clio, the K13 feels terrible in comparison. This is something that really needs to change for Nissan in this segment.

We were all admiring it after work today, I think the general feeling is a Note and Pulsar love child.

It does look well, and is a big improvement over the current model. I also quite like the pulsar too.

Check out the K10 Micra Super Turbo. Only JDM but they made it here during the 90's Jap import craze. I'd give my left nut for a clean one now.

I like the Pulsar too, looks well but seems to have bombed in the sales figures, can't understand why, I suppose the dealers push the Quasqhai?

That's what I was thinking about, love them, when I was in college in waterford I lived next door to a fella that had one. I'd say they're a hoot to drive, incredibly light and nimble!

It's competing with the Golf. It's nowhere near as desirable to the masses.
    The end.

looks decent... cross between a fiesta and a corsa... and if they keep up the €4k scrappage deal next year this will sell itself...

there'll be a new swift, ibiza and polo (off the top of my head, possibly more) out next year too so it'll be a good year to be in the market for a hot hatch..

My first car was a k10 1.0 three door
So I'd also give your left nut for one

How are the k12 and 13 for reliability

The new one looks better. But then they were pretty bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

As reliable as ever, the only trouble is the boot switch on the K12 and an odd stretched chain but that's down to lack of maintainance.
Can't fault them in that regard.

    Wiper Linkages
Poor Cool Air Inlet Pipe design they disconnect from the airbox
    Rough Idle numerous causes

List aslong as my arm still we have one going with 170k miles!

It's a welcome re-design i like it presumably only available in the 1.5dci :pac:

Funny, I work in a Nissan dealer DNS have worked on countless K12's and haven't had either of those issues pop up. Where they on your own car? Could just be anecdotal.

To be fair it'd be some laugh with the dci haha

I thought the same at first glance too, very similar.

Sure ya can give them both, their only ornaments now.

I have had more wiper motors out of them Micra's, ball & socket wear down. A drill & a split pin sorts it. €50.
How much for a replacement linkage in Nissan??

Electronic boot switch was a massive issue, think Nissan done a recall at some point on it.

Also had to remove a few ignition barrels as they seem to get sticky.

Wiring into the boot lid can be a pain too. Had to strip a few of them back to find broken wires.

The wipers slap a bit when they get worn alright but in my experience they always clear te screen properly so I don't mind it.
Sticky barrels, yep but a bit of silicone spray sorts them out.

Boot switch, well yeah they are ****e but I gave you that one anyway. Haha

Worked for Nissan '96 to '98...
felt bad charging big money for reprogramming the NAT keyfobs and saying it took an hour to the customers ... few keys turns and few buttons dabs and 2 minutes later, the fobs were set.

I like the pulsar too, the 1.2 turbo petrol gets good reviews. Nephew is working in Nissan he says they aren't giving any bother in either petrol or diesel versions. The Qashqai on the other hand are a disaster.

the whole thing about the micra of old was the cutsie bubble look that made it stand out, gave it character

i think with this new one its more of the.. same ol same ol i.e. fiesta, jazz, mazda 2 etc

which is a shame i think

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

The k10 and k11 had a certain look. Like it or not. The others Imo where kinda nothing. The new one might be a similar to other makes but its a decent looking car Imo.

Great to see Nissan back wit a decent looking range. They made some dogs for the last decade which was a pity as they were ok to drive and maintain.

It resembles a Clio a lot... Maybe because... it actually is a Clio?

The k12 and the k13 micras had zero character tbh. If anything the k11 had more character than both.

The people who bought K10s and K11s new are long gone! Fair play to Nissan for making something that isn't completely disgusting this time. Micras from the last 2 decades have been just dreadful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

    dreadful?

they're bulletproof....half the driving schools use them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Dreadful to behold.

Most of the driving schools down here are Corsas Yariss and i10s. Haven't seen a micra in yonks as anything but a rental car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Current Micra requires a boat load of reworking in Sunderland before it can be sold in Europe. Indian built ones are proving rubbish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭pajor

The Dutch f*cking love small cars. Aygo, 107 (and now 108), C1, Corsa, any small Suzuki or Daihatsu, Fiesta and so on and so forth are very common sights. But not the Micra. I'd reckon more Pixo's sold here than K13s.

Nissan in general wouldn't be that popular here.

I think the new one looks alright though. Even if it does look like a cross between a shrunken Pulsar and a Jazz. The interior looks like a step up too. If priced right I think it will sell well enough in Ireland and the UK.

I wonder if they'll still call it a Micra. A new name would help it I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

There a prototype called the Sway which seems to be where the new Micra came from but it is still going to be the Micra.

Seen one of these today and they are a lovely looking car. It was a black car with orange accents and I have to say it looked really good. It's much bigger than previous micra's and has a very sporty hot hatch sort of look about it.

My mum will be in the market for a new car in the coming months and this is a definite contender. She has owned several micras in the past (K10, K11 and K12's) and they've all been great reliable cars so hopefully this model will price as reliable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

We have one the same colour in my garage, they do look sweet. They are pricier than previous Micras but you have to look at it as a whole new car, the extras that go into it are actually way more affordable than you'd imagine too.

Had a days tech training on them in Nissan on Wednesday and for the segment I don't think you'd get a better car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,352 ✭✭✭alias no.9

Two things have contributed to the demise of the Micra, the first has been the lack of new entrants to religious orders and the second is the Nissan Note which costs very little more than a Micra and is much more spacious. Since the Note was launched, the Micra has been an irrelevance in a Nissan Showroom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

People are hardly queuing up for Notes either, in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

The new Micra will more than likely see Notes out of the show rooms, it's a better car.

To be honest, I wouldn't tell a friend to buy a current Note.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,836 ✭✭✭✭AMKC

Must say that the add for the new Micra is really good too. Would not surprise me if the advertisement for it won awards and I can see the new Micra winning awards as well.
Nissan have said they are going to stop selling the Note when the new Micra comes out. So I don,t think the new Micra will have anything to worry about from it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

A lot more of them on road and if you had to buy a small Nissan, the Note is much better bang for your buck. That said, I think I'd make my way to another garage.
