They were nicer when you could only get them in pubs. You'd savour every last one. Very expensive, very small bags and very annoying if your mate wanted to share!

Once dealz started selling six pack bacon fries/ scampi for 1.50 they never tasted quite as good!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,469 ✭✭✭Olishi4

They're alright. They are probably in small packs because I think they are about 130 calories roughly the same as a packet of King Crisps so thats the portion size to still be considered a snack maybe? How many grams are in pack?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

They're mad expensive in Ireland. It was a sight to behold when I found out that they're only 40p a packet in our soccer club over here :D

It's the only food a proper pub should serve

Maybe the scampi if your feeling adventurous

    Love them

If I remember correctly the tesco bacon fries are similar.

Pity you can't get scampi in a big bag.

The flavour lasts hours too. You can burp later in the night and mmmm bacon.

    Mmmmmmmm

These things equaled it's value in a round of pints!! Very nom nom nom

So you don't OD and wake up in hospital in a bacony stupor.

    Kevin Bacon looking over you.

I always associate them with old man pubs back when I used to drink. Sitting in Mulligan's on Sunday afternoons thinking after a good few drinks we should really go out and get some food but just kept eating Bacon Fries instead. There was no soakage in them so it usually didn't end well.

The pub sambo: scampi fry between two bacon fries. Rinse with beer. Repeat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,741 ✭✭✭✭Ally Dick

I've been through them all - Bombay mix, Scampi fries, Bacon fries, Dry Roast, Crisps. The bacon fries are up there. But the rolls royce is Vinegar flavoured nuts. They're divine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭tallaghtfornia

Knew a lad who'd eat em in threes once he got bet drinking pints. Ten minutes after eating the equivalent of a salt cellar, he'd be lashing pints again.

When I was living in London my friend was at a conference for the Marine Stewards Council in the Southbank and she picked me up a packet of the fabled Cheese Flavoured moments from the food spread. I couldn't believe my eyes when she presented them to me. I'm still not even sure if it happened. They were weird. They have kind of a gooey interior. I've never seen them for sale here or the UK. Whatever happens until I depart this world, I'll always know I tasted CFMs, and I truly lived.

Scampi Fries were my favourite bar snack ever. Finding them in Dealz I thought my life was finally complete, till my boyfriend leaned over me shoulder as I was picking them up and said "Scampi Fries? In college we used to call those a bag of fannies".

I still eat them now the odd time, but that imagery sapped all the enjoyment out of it.

Bacon fries and a few decent pints of the black stuff, heaven! :D

Ah, Jesus, are you for real? I sometimes think not by some of your posts. You should really try to come down to earth more often.

They make them in small packs...so you'll buy another one. And another one. And another one. Stop when you stomach starts feeling queasy.

You, person on the internet, are the first I've met that has claimed to have tasted these wonders. The Arc of the Covenant...Moments.

Also we call Scampi Fries - Fishy Pillows. Apparently Amazon sell them in obscene quantities.

The salt makes people drink more, thats why you find them in pubs i prefer scampi though. Don't even get me started on pork scratchings, the mere mentioning of them makes my cannabis addled brain conjure up images of a big fat pig rolling around in its own feces scratching it's hole with some chap catching it all up in a little bag,but yet, somehow they've crossed the Irish Sea and are slowly but steadily making inroads into the savoury snack market here.

It's alright, they give it a blast of a hose to get the worst of the **** off before they crisp it up.

    Twiglets.
Why can't you get Twiglets in Eire?
I did see them in Dealz once but the Gaelic anti-snack police must have confiscated them.

That reminds me of skips or as they're more commonly known 'minge flakes' :)

They are made with Soya not Bacon. They should be called Soya bites.
