Just wondering are there many people on here a member of macra? Is it worth joining? Just looking into joining myself to expand my social scene as most of my friends are settled now!! I'm nearly 32 now so would it be a bit late to join or worth it?!

Contact macra directly with your address and they will pass it on to nearest branch to you. That's what I did anyway!!

The nearest club to me has only about 12 members. Would I be better off joining a club with more members?

I found going to the country music dances a great way to meet women. I met my girlfriend at one. Asking a girl to dance is a good icebreaker and a way to approach one girl in a group.

Brother of mine bought a dog an goes walking with said dog. He tells me the amount of women that come over to him to pet the dog is unreal.
He says if he was single again he'd walk the dog everywhere ;-)

Join the smaller club, and bring a friend.
They would be delighted to have you

FYI my folks met through macra. Happily married for 40+ yrs and still argue every day :D.

Great talent at natonal events ;) but great banter at club meetings and club events.

Best organisation you could join in terms of social life personal development and more when your starting out in macra do not think that meetings are the be all and end all yes there necessary but they can be boring and drag on but there's more too it than that such as sport personality competitions farm skills quizzes and travel 12 members in a club is a decent size club if the members are involved in it best thing to do this year would be attend the national conference/ rally at the end of October on the sa turday night you will definitely join after that night

Its the best thing I ever joined! Am a member two years and am loving it. Have made some really great friends out of it, and love the social aspect of it.

Oh and my brother and his now wife met on the volleyball court at a macra competition and couldn't be happier.

    Go for it! :)

I could name about 40 over the years and have another Macra wedding next month and I'm best man at a Macra wedding this time next year

I met my wife in Macra. As a club it's like everything else in life you get what you put into it. I was the chairman of our local club for a while and it was a nightmare, we would organise stuff and then people wouldn't bother turning up. Your local club would be delighted to see you just ruck up to a meeting and don't be afraid to get stuck in.

Have to be a member to attend that or can you just arrive on the night to it?

Sounds like it does happen a good bit so!! What's the chances of a man in his early 30's of finding someone similar at a event or are the female members a lot younger?

Don't go with your sights set on a woman. Go and enjoy it and what happens happens

Arrive on the night and tell them your interested in joining. The Macra development officer should have the contact details of the chairperson if you'd like to chat to them first

It will just for the social aspect at first, meet new people so not joining in for sole reason of that yet anyway!!

Thanks for info. So would you need to contact them before arriving to let them know you're coming? Is it free or need tickets or is it just a meet up for the craic?

Do you know anyone from your local club going to it? I'd organise tickets in advance if I were you, but most likely available on the night.

Rally is great craic and a good introduction into the world of Macra!

Not a member of local club yet, just checking macra out at the moment and see how I like it. In my early 30's so just kinda nervous in case I left it too late to join. So would I be safe enough in chancing just buying tickets at the door?

Haven't a room for myself yet even I'm working on it at the moment that €17 gives you a good mix of entertainment between bands and djs late bar enough women everywhere and an all round feel good atmosphere early 30s is not late at all I was shocked when I found out how many in our county were in there early 30s

You need to be a member to get a delegate pack and stay in the hotel. If you want to stay elsewhere and just enjoy the craic you can just rock up on the night

Oh I know that. I mean delegate packs is the only thing that you are excluded from.

in saying that, go to a couple of club meeting first so you have a few faces to say hello to
