Destiny Competitions - Boards Players

So, with Private Matches coming in - who wuold be up for having a boards.ie comptition of some sort?

I would be up for helping to organise a PS4 comp if we can get enough people.

I'm just spitballing here - i'm not sure exactly what format any competition should take.

We could do it as single player comps, or as teams of two or three (teams of more than 3 would result in too few teams, imo).

There are many many ways in which we could do it. As a single player we could have Rumble matches with top two or three progressing - and then refining it down to either a Rumble match of 3+ players in the final or maybe a 1vs1 fight to the death for the title.

We could (I suggest randomly) put together teams of 3 and play elimination matches in a tournament structure.

It would be great if we could arrange a competition day but obviously people have real life requirements away from the game, so once we have match ups set, we could leave it that the games have to be played in a given week.

Anyone interested? Anyone have ideas on how we could/should structure it?

EDIT: Lets start the ball rolling with a general sign up - we can work out specifics as we go along.... Stick your Boards.ie Name, Gamertag and Console (maybe there will be enough for the Xboxers to get something going too - no harm in finding out)

Elimination practice will be brilliant in private matches.

Im up for any private games for a laugh, Im not going to take it too seriously :P

I've been thinking along the same lines. In fact, I've so many ideas I couldn't put down here for fear of retribution. ;)

We could have Rumble matches limited to just Primaries, and each Primary variant on rotation. So Match 1 HC, 2 SR, 3 PR, 4 AR. No Specials or Heavys. Nades and Supers are fine.

Clan v Clan v Clan Round Robin in all 6v6 modes. C1 v C2. C2 v C3. C3 v C1 in Control. Then on to Clash. Or Winner stays on kinda marathon thingy.

I might attempt some sort of tabular spreadsheet for some of these. See how we go.

3v3 Skirmish Round Robin, nothing "Banned" would be a good place to start if you want to do something competitive.

Use everyones Skirmish ELO to get a rough team average.

So take the total number of participants, combine their ELOs, divide by number of teams.

Each captain then has to pick their 2 teams mates to achieve the required ELO as a group of 3

The ELO averaging is a very good idea. I was thinking we should/may need to do something that stops the top 3 players being on the same team and another team of 3 people who have barely touched PVP. Very good idea Cormac.

I would recommend using Guardian GG over Destiny Tracker for ELO - I don't trust the ELO on Destiny Tracker at all.

Created a google doc spreadsheet for signups. Its in the OP and here too:

As we move along I will try to add ELO for a few different game types to the list, maybe we can use this list as the starting point for tournement structure.

The only thing I'd consider doing in the interest in fairness, and this might be my own personal bias here would be to limit the amount of roaming supers on each team.

Stormcallers and Hammers last a f**king age and are nigh on impossible to be team shot in 3v3. Thats just my thoughts.

Exactly - I don't like the way Destiny Tracker seems to calculate stuff - i don't think they updated theirs per season or something. THe ELO in DT seems to stay low or drop low very quickly. I would have a similar ELO in Control, for example, to some of the very new players, which doesn't seem right.

I reckon Guardian GG is a far better measure of ELO/Player level than Destiny Tracker, hence my suggestion (and I am guessing your agreement!)

The sweats community only allow one subclass each per team - so you could have three titans but they would each have to be a different subclass.

That does mean you can still have Hammers and StormCallers on the same team though - we could add a roaming super rule to our own set of 'rules' if people agreed. I wouldn't mind such a rule, but i'm not going to kick up a fuss if the majority of people involved don't want to limit it that much.

    Yeah, whatever, something like that.

Sick of being Team wiped by SC or Hammers and having him come kill me again after I spawn in.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 18,808 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kimbot

    Lads,

I am also proposing that on 1 beer filled night we go for a "Super" only event.
So for Round 1 everyone on both sides bring a titan (Any super you like) and no weapons if possible :pac:
    Round 2 Hunters etc
    Round 3 Warlocks

Now I would imagine that would be a laugh :D

I had been thinking of mentioning this myself, but had been far too lazy.
I am most definitely up for some competitive stuff, whether we go for random Rumble, Skirmish, or a more organised system bringing elo into it.

Here's my idea for the Primary Round Robin Rumble:

It'll consist of 5 rounds. Rounds 1-4 will be for each weapon type, so HC/AR/PR/SR, and round 5 would be for your own personal preference. No UR or NLB. Primary Exotics are allowed if everyone agrees, otherwise Legendary only.

Scoring can be done 1 of 2 ways:
1: Take individual end game score for the 5 rounds and total
    2: 1st place gets 6 points, 2nd gets 5, 3rd gets 4 and so on

    Rumble
HC AR SR PR Personal Total
    P1 6 3 6 2 5 22
    P2 2 5 3 1 2 13
    P3 1 4 5 4 3 17
    P4 4 1 4 3 4 16
    P5 5 6 1 5 6 23
    P6 3 2 2 6 1 14

I think you're over complicating it, maybe that's just me.

In these dedicated primary rounds, are you only allowed us primary weapon? Or can you use your secondary too (loaded question)

Maybe I am. It's only a rough idea. I was thinking primary only (But nades are okay, as your more likely to have muscle memory of throwing a grenade at someone. For me it's easier to not switch to a secondary as apposed to not throwing a nade)

All these gimmicky modes will iron themselves out over time. As you suggested yourself, having private elimination matches would be very useful for trials practice. Some clan on clan clash/control/control lite games for useless epeen bragging rites.

Have a rule that anyone that uses a secondary or heavy have to get killed once by everyone on the opposing team :P

Up to 13 PS4 players (and one lone XBOX entrant...) - unfortunately, it is now obvious that most of us have played feck all skirmish - so we are going to have to discuss how teams for Skirmish would be selected (to try keep it fair/even).

I have updated the signup sheet with some Skirmish ELOs, from Guardian.GG where we have them.

My proposal for the first comp is 3vs3 skirmish - we can discuss no use of heavy, subclass restrictions (can't double/triple a sub class per team) if we start to get closer to actually getting a comp going.

Reason I am think a more standard Skirmish comp first time round, is just to try keep it simple/clean/non-gimmicky.

Oh, and BUMP for the signup sheet:

    THIS!

We can add weird rules and restrictions later.
For the 1st games, have no rules. You can do whatever you want, use whatever you want.

Do "Best of 5", the winners of each round face each other in a final.

Maybe just have 4 team captains to start, then we can take it from there

I think we should add other ELOs for other modes in other columns

A Salvage or Trials ELO would be a pretty good indicator of 3v3 skill if a player doesn't have a Skirmish one

Is there a way to see your current Season ELO for Salvage (and other modes? I can only see the man 6 up top of the screen)

EDIT: I actually started adding more columns cause it makes sense

i can only go on previous seasons ELO for Skirmish/Trials/Salvage - and because I have played so little my scores in both aren't bad (I have a higher salvage score than you!! :D:o:rolleyes:) so I'm not sure ELO will be the way to go - you are a way better 3vs3 player than I am but ELO (the little we can get) isn't showing that.

So if we don't have a Season 2 ELO, just use the Season 1 figure yeah?

Still can't see my current ELO for Salvage etc.

Will the release of RoI create a new Season, so we would all have our Seasonal ELO's reset?

    Here?

    http://guardian.gg/en/leaderboard/2/11

But when I type my name into the filter box, nothing happens, there is no "search" button, I hit enter, nothing happens. I'm just left looking at the top 200 Salvage players.

yeah - not working when i try for your name either. I know that happens with payers who are 'placing' rather than having a rank, but I would assume you have a proper ELO for salvage (unless you haven't played it since April, or only a couple of games.

You are showing up for the other game modes.

Alright, maybe I made some assumptions.

According to DestinyTracker I've played 11 games in the last 2 months, the rest (according to Guardian GG) are over 4 months ago (even though that should still be within the current season)

I guess I'll do a bunch of Salvage to get an ELO in it for something to do

Ehhh.... according to this I've played 23 games since the start of season 2
